Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
He did well to recover from the first two knockdowns but by the 5th his mouth was dripping with blood, his legs were gone, and he nearly went down again in that round. To me it seemed like he realized that he wasn't going to improve on his brief success and decided that taking a longer beating wasn't for him.

He got the crap beaten out of him. I was surprised that he didn't quit earlier.Freedom2013 wrote:I was surprised that Monroe quit.

But he talked such a good fight at the pressers, he sounded like he was determined to win no matter what.
Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
After the 2nd, he realized that running didn't work, so he stood and fought and got beaten up. They all talk before the fight, but after taking a few shots from GGG, it feels totally different.Freedom2013 wrote:True...ikorolev wrote:He got the crap beaten out of him.Freedom2013 wrote:I was surprised that Monroe quit.

I tried reverse psychology because for weeks i wrote how Manny would win and look what happened? I'm now 1-0 with this new philosophy...they call that a streak boys.
I think i owe a bigger apology to the guy I argued with about Chocolito never being on any P4P list. He looked fantastic. I'm sorry whomever you are.

Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
Hold on guys, i just read that Willie Monroe Jr. may have lied about a menstrual cramp he may/may not have had and didn't check the box prior to the fight.
Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
Mayweather-Pacquiao, GGG-Monroe, gee these fights aren't too predicable. Wilder will KO Molina in 1 or 2 rounds.
These matches are making me into a psychic.
Yes, we all LAUGHED about GGG losing.

Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
And I laugh at you now.
Monroe is a much better opponent than Molina. For his weight he's far more skilled and significantly faster, not to mention that he didn't get blown away in the first round in his only fight against a top 35 opponent, stopped in the first by a poor opponent before that, and dropped other times like Molina did. Admittedly Monroe isn't much of a puncher, but GGG's shown an excellent chin and there is no evidence of him ever being dropped or even hurt, so power isn't the way to beat him, but the speed and slickness that Monroe possesses may well be. Molina, on the other hand, doesn't do anything well relative to top 20 fighters and has already been iced twice in the first, making him suitable fodder for a much better opponent with loads of early stoppages.
Calm down Sparky. I ONLY used the term "laugh," because that was the title of the thread. To debate whether Molina or Monroe is a more worthy opponent is splitting hairs. Both have a 5% chance of victory at best. Injuries or perfect punches could happen. GGG is on a higher plane than Wilder, so that should be taken into account. Also, Monroe can't break an egg.
I'm very calm....thanks for the concern though
You've already mentioned Monroe's power to which I noted that GGG has an excellent chin and that power isn't the way to beat him. GGG is on higher level than Wilder but Monroe is also on a higher level than Molina, and unlike the latter Monroe isn't tailor-made for the champion he's facing (see Molina's two first round KO losses and other trips to the canvas--perfect for a big puncher with loads of early stoppages). GGG also fought under 3 months ago while it will be about 5 for Wilder, and when someone is that active I think fighting someone of a lower than desired standard, though Monroe was clearly one of the best available in my view, is more excusable.
Sure, if Monroe and Molina fought in the same division, I'd pick Monroe to win by decision, but I wouldn't be surprised if either limited fighter would win.
Now back to reality: for Monroe to have won last night he would have had to fight a perfect fight for 48 minutes against arguably the PFP king; that's a tall order.
Molina would just need to throw one perfect punch or one perfect combination against Wilder. Yes, we all agree there are 10 to 20 HWs that should have gotten this match in lieu of Molina, and that a Molina victory against Wilder is a very long shot, I stand by my assertion though GGG-Monroe is at least equally silly to Wilder-Molina, if not more silly.

Tony1244 don't you understand that the 20 other better fighters then Molina in the HW division are desperate to fight Wilder but he chose Molina, that is what's silly, GGG doesn't have anyone desperate to fight him that's the difference so you cant compare.

Fair enough. I was comparing them as opponents. If I recall, Monroe was something like 17th in his division and I think Molina was 45th. A guy ranked 45th beating a guy ranked 17th is hardly front page news. But some posters acted as though I said I was Jesus because I wrote that both are mismatches of a somewhat similar order.
You made a good point that Wilder had many more options.
Re: Don't Laugh...GGG will lose tonight...
They aren't, Monroe was still a better opponent than Molina will be.Tony1244 wrote:digzee wrote:Tony1244 don't you understand that the 20 other better fighters then Molina in the HW division are desperate to fight Wilder but he chose Molina, that is what's silly, GGG doesn't have anyone desperate to fight him that's the difference so you cant compare.

I think the answer is a 95% chance YES. I was just thinking it would be pretty funny if we were ALL wrong.

The fact is that Wilder is one button punch away from fawn legs. As a result, Molina definitely has a better shot than Monroe Jr did.Tony1244 wrote:

Somewhere, somehow, many of you forgot that this is a SPORT and the participants are HUMAN BEINGS.Freedom2013 wrote:But he talked such a good fight at the pressers, he sounded like he was determined to win no matter what.
Would say the same thing for animals too ...

Notice that you are talking to the Grand Wizard of BoxRec/Mr. Skinhead/KKK himself. Notice how he is here to praise a man with skin that's white because he beat someone with 6 KOs and happens to be black.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Somewhere, somehow, many of you forgot that this is a SPORT and the participants are HUMAN BEINGS.Freedom2013 wrote:But he talked such a good fight at the pressers, he sounded like he was determined to win no matter what.

Him, Ricky and especially Little Ikey are here praising this man as though he just beat SRR or somebody who is highly credible, he beat Monroe......Monroe......let's allow that to sink in for a few. A dude with 19 wins, 19 and only 6 measly KO's out of all the fights he had and we saw GGG all swollen up around his eyes and tired.
The excuse I got here from Little Ikey was; "couldn't you tell he fought different"? He hit that cat with everything but the kitchen sink and it still took him 6 round to get him out of there. I surely hope GGG starts to get guys at 60 to fight him because his time is running out, he will either need to move up or down, he can't afford to wait until he's 34/35 before he get his best fights against the top tiered opposition.
I like GGG but his fans are a lot like Manny's fans, they make you sick and act as if the man is God Himself.

Molina is a terrible HW world title defense opponent - there are at least 50 better HWs.
