Your Current Top 10 P4P

Post by diddy »

Mine:

1) Floyd (not a question currently)
2) Ward (yeah yeah, I know, long layoff, but it's about to end, contract issues are over)
3) Golovkin
4) Wlad
5) Canelo
6) Kovalev
7) Pacquaio (just b/c he lost to Floyd doesnt mean he doesnt beat basically everyone else)
8) Roman Gonz (only this low b/c I tend to slight the tiny guys)
It gets really hard for me after 8....
9) Crawford
10) Thurman
I could easily name about 5 more guys - Bradley, Khan, Adonis, Brook, Lara but I went Crawford and Thurman because they are the future at 140-147 (I believe). I kept Khan below Thurman b/c I believe Thurman would knock Khan out and tho his resume is better than Crawford and Thurman I wasnt impressed by Bradley's performance vs Chaves. For the record, I believe Brook is dead even with Thurman and Crawford.

Kind of funny a lot of guys never had Gonzalez in their top 10 until HBO started labeling him as p4p material. Same happened with Donaire, HBO billed him as P4P THEN everyone said the same stuff HBO is saying. I always considered Gonz top 10 for a while

Couple of years from now i suspect we'll argue over Gonzalez/Golovkin for who's no.1 because neither of these guys are losing any time soon. Will be interesting to see what Ward does after his televised spar with Paul Smith, a win over a legit opponent might get him back in the top 5 and maybe put him in the frame for a Golovkin fight.

There ain't much in it between 5-10 for me, i wouldn't be opposed to having them re-ordered. Guys like Froch, Walters, Frampton, and maybe even Maindana for his narrow win over Floyd after beating Broner are in with reasonable shout for top-10 consideration, but as of this point in time it's hard to make a case for those guys being ahead of the likes of Cotto, Canelo, Klitchko & Crawford.

1. GGG
2. Kovalev
3. Vasyl Lomanchenko
4. Floyd Mayweather Jr
5. Terrance Crawford
6. Keith Thurman
7. Nicholas Walters
8. Roman Gonzalez
9. Canelo Alvarez
X. Amir Khan

Mikey Garcia and Andre Ward, you can't be on this list if you are not a boxer so i'm sorry about that. Lace em up in 2015 and you might be added back to the list. Danny Garcia, you've been given two gift wins so i can't include you. You are losing your luster Son and your luck will run out soon. Floyd, i can't put you first because you haven't had a knockout since 1961. Manny, sorry man. No longer on my list. Clitschko? The only intriguing thing about you is how you don't crush that wife of yours turning over in the bed at night. Not on my list.

Hey Wilder, i'm not a hater. I can't put you on my list yet because they brought you up soft but I have a feeling you will be on it this list as the bigger fights come. Leo Santa Cruz, gotta fight someone son and 200 punches a round isn't fun to watch unless you can actually hurt someone. Cotto, you've had enough luck the last year. Lemieux, I think you are the next one to pop on my list. You learned with the Rubio loss that stamina is kind of important for a boxer. Since then, you've just munched. The only problem is that it sounds like you are taking the slow route and avoiding the tough fights to find a title. Sad.

I hope that some day we get to the point where it's bad to be an undefeated fighter unless you can HONESTLY say that you've fought every threat in your weight class. If you end your career undefeated and avoided even ONE fighter, that zero should count more AGAINST you than HELP you.

Well, it's a fair point, given that Floyd didn't lose to maidana, it might have been closer than other Floyd fights, but no way was that a win for Maidana.

Rating Pacquaio above Floyd is ridiculous, he's been laid out by Marquez, and beaten by Floyd - it's just clear bias against Floyd.

What on earth has GGG done to earn the top spot ?

1. Floyd Mayweather

3. Roman Gonzalez
4. Sergey Kovalev
5. Gennady Golovkin
6. Terence Crawford
7. Manny Pacquiao
8. Naoyo Inoue
9. Juan Francisco Estrada
10. Carl Frampton

Pretty comfortable with 1-7 (and the fact that Ward will slip into the upper half when he fights again and that Froch and M. Garcia would slip into the lower half if they fight again). 8-10 is a little sketchier. Had Estrada in my last one with no reason to take him out but when I thought of Inoue he seemed so obviously better than him that he had to go above. Frampton instead of Walters or Thurman is pure spur-of-the-moment whimsy. Don't rate Canelo or Wlad as highly as some.

I think it's even harder to do a top ten now after the recent superfight, because I don't think either fighter looked good and I saw the fight as a very narrow win for uninspiring Mayweather over an underwhelming Pacquiao. Both are past their best and while they both have fantastic resumes, neither is as good as they used to be.

GGG is my favourite active fighter, but I was disappointed with his performance against Monroe and don't think his resume and performances merit a p4p ranking any higher than lower-half top ten.

1. I go by my own opinion on who wins fights if they don't reach a natural conclusion, the scorecard of 71 year old, spectacle-wearing Dave Moretti means the square root of 0 to me. Floyd's as good as a technician as any fighter to lace a pair of gloves but his total lack of offensive ambition & ageing legs have seen him lose narrowly to Pacquaio & Maidana in recent years and draw with Cotto. It's been a long time since I've felt Floyd was the full package.

2. As for Golovkin, he's done all he needs to do, displayed his boxing ability. If you only want to give props to guys after they get the marquee fights then you'll always be behind the game. In GGG you're watching an ATG who's at least as good as Hagler if not better, in his prime. The opponents will come. Maybe by th time you recognise it though he'll be past his prime and the next p4p will be on the rise.

You compare GGG to a prime Hagler even tho he hasn't beaten any A level fighters? What is wrong with you?

Moretti was only one of the 3 judges there, all 3 of whom scored for Mayweather - what makes you a better judge than them? What big fight experience have you at judging, how many high profile fights have boxing commissions hired you for.

Golovkin looks good so far, but how can you judge him on what he might do? He's not done anything as yet to prove his greatness, and until he does it is ludicrous to compare his body of work to Mayweathers or Pacquaio's for that matter. Let's actually wait and see what kind of career he has - so far so good, but he hasn't yet faced another great fighter.

You're delusional. I don't know why I even bother responding, as your brain obviously doesn't work normally.

James my friend, if you want to stare at the box and just go by whatever 10-9's an old man places in a box with a pencil and take it as gospel then crack on. Why even bother with a thread like this, p4p like judging is subjective but your too braindead to dispute a scorecard, or judge a guys ability, then just accept Boxrec or Ring magazine p4p rankings. I once watched Iain John Lewis score a prizefighter bout 30-28 in favour of a guy who had been knocked down. I'm also less qualified than he is too, as i suspect you are. You take that scorecard, embrace it, it tells you won a fight because you're too much of a dumbass, you don't know the sport well enough to decipher yourself who won a fight that didn't reach a natural conclusion, or assess a man's ability/skill if he hasn't fought a decorated opponent.

As for comparing Golovkin's "body of work" to Floyd or Pac's, once again, you don't seem to grasp what p4p is. I suspect your list would probably have Holyfield at the top, he had a fight last week.

Ricky, only 16% of respondents here picked GGG as #1 PFP. So that means 84% of us don't know boxing.

He didn't defend it idiot, he just laughed at your stupid ass. You and a few others here are sooo butthurt about Floyd winning over Manny.

Too bad, he lost and you still refuse to acknowledge an undefeated Champion who beat your boy and instead you put a nobody at #1 and a fighter with 6 losses, 1 to the guy you have below him ahead of Floyd.

LOL, I see why he laughed.

I really like Trip G as well. And I am a huge Floyd critic. However, to have anyone above Floyd right now is simply either an uneducated or biased choice, IMO. I feel Roman is the best fighter on the planet at the moment. However, his accomplishments are not where Floyd's are, so it would be cheating for me to put him ahead of Floyd. Also, Roman's accomplishments out weight Golovkin's at the moment.

Accomplishments from 5-10 years ago don't matter. If Roman was the same size as Floyd, he would kick his ass. Golovkin would kick Floyd's ass if they met in the middle (at 154). Both Roman an Gennady should be above Floyd.

Ricky, if you rate Pacquiao over Mayweather now, you are smoking banana peels. If and when Mayweather or Ward ever beat GGG, you'd still rate GGG higher, so for "fans" like yourself, results of bouts are meaningless.
