DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Am I the only one who thinks DeGale is going to win this fight and win it with ease!
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Genuinly can't call this one, can see pretty much any outcome except degale being stopped.

I think he will win. Perhaps not with ease though.
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Sky have this listed on their app as an 8pm start. Is this a day time show in the U.S.?
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Dirrell on points comfortably is my hunch. Groves baffled him all night just by sitting on the backfoot and walking him onto shots; if Dirrell hasn't faded too much through inactivity he can fight like that to a much higher level. But I'd love Degale to prove me wrong, and as an Olympic champion you'd hope he has the adaptability to walk Dirrell down and deal with his lightening hands and side-to-side movement.

I saw Spike O'Sullivan is on the bill and the guy he's up against has a pretty fearsome looking record but on further examination he has never fought anyone with a pulse and it doesn't even give you his age on his boxrec profile.

Yup plus he's recently fought some winless fighters which prob says a lot about him.Stuarty30 wrote:I saw Spike O'Sullivan is on the bill and the guy he's up against has a pretty fearsome looking record but on further examination he has never fought anyone with a pulse and it doesn't even give you his age on his boxrec profile.
I quite like O'Sullivan he's good to watch very limited but he's always in decent fights.
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
Yeah he's entertaining. The way he came out and dealt with Fitzgerald in their fight was impressive if not a bit unorthodox! Effective though and good to watch.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Yup plus he's recently fought some winless fighters which prob says a lot about him.Stuarty30 wrote:I saw Spike O'Sullivan is on the bill and the guy he's up against has a pretty fearsome looking record but on further examination he has never fought anyone with a pulse and it doesn't even give you his age on his boxrec profile.

Yeah I like Spike O'Sullivan, that win over Fitzgerald was awesome. What a strange opponent they've lined him up with. A big hitting destroyer of tomato cans, while the one opponent with anything approaching a 50-50 record, knocked him out.
Why go to all that trouble of building up a record like that, if the guys no good ? Because presumably he's not getting much of a payday against the Irishman...I guess it's safe to assume he's got a big punch on him, so could be a fun one while it lasts...

Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
The more I think about this, the more I can see Degale being completely clowned by Dirrell on the night.
Degale needs to hope his inactivity has hurt him.
The only way Dirrell loses is if he blows it himself. By being too negative and spoiling.
Victory is in the hands of Andre, but is he man enough to take it nowadays ? hopefully not and Degale wins against the odds, but going with Andre UD.

Or with the odds in accordance with most bookies......
Re: DeGale v Dirrell - Who wins?
I see where you're coming from. I've changed my mind several times since the fight was announced! Like you say I'm hoping Dirrells inactivity and quality of opponent recently effect him. DeGale is bang on form but he'll need to go up another gear and get a bit of luck on the night to pull it off. There's question marks over Dirrells heart so I hope DeGale can get to him early and force him back but remain composed while doing so! Dead simple eh lol!G0mez wrote:The more I think about this, the more I can see Degale being completely clowned by Dirrell on the night.

Touche Gomez but technically speaking, it still wouldn't be against the odds for Degale to win, seeing as he's less than evens with almost all the bookies

Degale wins virtually every round for me.
This has been priced up by the bookies as if it's the 2009 Dirrell who all-but-beat Carl Froch who Degale will be fighting, when in my opinion the 2015 is a shadow of his former self.
Prime Degale > Over the hill Dirrell.

When I said "against the odds" it was figuratively speaking, i.e. him going abroad to America, to fight on a Haymon show against a Haymon fighter. So when I picked Dirrell to nudge it, I thought you suggested that it was a decision that basically picked itself due to the overwhelming bookie odds for Dirrell victory. So then I presented that screenshot to show actually, the bookies are split.
Personally I see Dirrell winning an uneventful fight 116-113 kind of affair myself.

Yeah my comment was tongue in cheek mate. Agree it would against the odds for sure and personally I think given the circumstances and Dirrell's prior form, he should be the firm favourite with the bookies.

I think DeGale will stop him. Should be a very good, high quality match to watch.

Be great if he could, but most people couldn't hit him with a fistful of dry rice.big lennox wrote:I think DeGale will stop him. Should be a very good, high quality match to watch.
Funny, but he was a lot more happy to trade in the amateurs than has as a professional.
