MayPac - all things said & done - was it good or bad for boxing?

Neither.

Casuals who were "turned off" by it would have lasted a few week before quitting anyway.

Diehards who were "turned off" by it will be back because they're die hards.

All in all, just another match. Lots of money and fanfare, but it won't change the boxing landscape at all.

Any fight that garners the type of attention Mayweather-Pacquiao did, has to be good for boxing.

Hell, ESPN's Sportscenter team was there in Las Vegas 6 days before the actual bout.
They hardly ever waste a breath on boxing, so their presence for the week preceeding the showdown helped put the sport on the public radar for a change.

Yes it was good for "BOXING" but the DCAFs didn't tune in to see a "boxing" match, they tuned in thinking that they'd see a brawl/toe to toe or a Manny massacre because they've been lied to for years by the media that Floyd was scared of Manny and how Packy was the best opposition to him and how the Packy Camp had been telling everyone for years how he was going to KO Mayweather.

They were disappointed because they do not understand that "boxing" is hitting without being hit, they wanted Floyd to just stand still with his hands down at his side and wait for Manny to hit him so they could see their spectacular KO they had been told about for years.

Now that they didn't get what they'd hope for, they are all disappointed and blaming Floyd for not fighting the way they wanted him to.

I usually disregard the DCAFs opinion but the opinions of some of the people on this forum who call themselves "boxing fans" and are really not is what disgusts me the most. They come with their opinions of what we know the sport of boxing to be and say stupid things like "he was running" and other simpleminded sh*t like that, for those of us who know what "boxing" is we throw up at the very thought of them calling themselves "boxing fans".

Overall I'm glad it's done and over but since it's finish all we've had to put up with is the disgrace of excuses made by Manny, Arum, Roach and Pacquiao's fans who refuse to accept it as a clear cut victory for Mayweather who did exactly what he said he'd do 5-6 years ago and predicted their reaction to it.

Its just another fight in the bOok for me in all honesty and kind of went how I thought it would go in my head just didn't expect Mayweather to take control of the fight as early as he did. The shoulder injury is an irrelevance because if even Pacquiao was fully fit I think Mayweather would have still picked him apart.

2. Bad for boxing because it was boring, predictable and WAY Over-priced.


Considering Pac's recent less than stellar performances before this fiasco, it should have been part of a triple header or non-PPV.

It was a fight between personalities, kind of like Evander Holyfield vs. Mitt Romney. 8)

I think boxing is on the rise but this was a great opportunity to reach out & win casual fans and it failed horribly. All it needed was some excitement, a little bit of high quality action, some heads being snapped back. But it had nothing, there wasn't even close to a punch being landed that would have had a casual fan on edge of their seats. I watched with a couple of casual fans who recently have seemed keen to show more interest in boxing, by the 3rd round they were more interested in their smartphones.

We agree here. Trying to get a casual boxing watcher to fall in love with boxing by seeing May-Pac would be like trying to get someone to fall in love with a recording artist by playing one of their crappiest albums.

Yep too true, I doubt any of the casual fans will be back to buy another PPV any time soon. Perhaps GGG and Roman's fights should be shown as an antidote.

Not sure how you can call it over-priced though when so many people found the money to pay for it. This wasn't just any old fight, it was an event. It was overpriced to an intelligent consumer. Granted that is not most people. Yes, it has the PPV record. That does NOT mean most of these people will be back. Most casual fans were bored out of their minds. They will NOT be back!

XFL, or whatever McMahon called his version of football had a massive amount of viewers. That didn't last. If there is a rematch between May-Pac, the drop-off will be precipitous.

It was good in some ways, bad in some others. All in all I'm just happy I was able to watch it. The debate is over on who is the better fighter in my eyes. I could care less what casuals thought about the fight because the thing is they may stop watching the sport after ONE boring match but even if I see one match I don't consider "EXCITING" I will always be a fan. I love the sport more than anything
