Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
What an awesome prospect. A high risk fight for both parties. I imagine the consensus will be that ggg will tear him up but froch is as touch as nails, has a long jab, and ggg is not so fast. Plus froch has bags of experience.
I'd prematurely say that froch could win a decision whilst taking some vicious punishment along the way.
I wonder what kind of money they are dangling in front of them? Something like 10 mil, 5 mil guarantees i'd guess.

I dont know but judging by eddie hearn talking about "Webley" The money must be huge + They need a great undercard.
I believe that 3G will have huge problems due to the size of Froch, Evently matched bout with Golovkin scoring a late KO/Close UD

Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
This is a tough fight for GGG and I don't believe for second he'd actually stop Froch (unless Froch is a shell of his former self). If anyone is getting stopped in this fight it will be GGG. I believe Froch's size will play a major roll in this fight and GGG can't afford to have defensive lapses like he did in the Monroe fight against a guy who can bang like Froch. It's a good fight that I think GGG can win, but it's a serious risk, even against this long in the tooth version of Froch.
GGG can punch, but we don't know how his power is going to carry up to 168 against the elite guys. Something tells me GGG will still have good power, but not so sure he'll be the same force. If this fight happens I got GGG by decisions in a very tough fight, but will be pulling for Froch.

Golovkin absolutely brutalizes Froch. He has a good (or bad, depending on your view) style for GGG.

Doesn't get any better than this, if it actually comes to fruition. A superfight that is sure to please much more than a mega dance exhibition.NateJR wrote:This is a tough fight for GGG and I don't believe for second he'd actually stop Froch (unless Froch is a shell of his former self). I disagree with you about 3G being able to stop Froch. Groves nearly had him done in the first round of their first fight. I am as certain that 3G can stop Froch as you are that he won't.
Also, it will be interesting to see how the year and three months off will effect Carl. At his age it might actually be a positive, especially given the series of wars he has been through since 2008.
I totally agree that if 3G takes his foot off the gas v Froch he could end up getting beaten down.
Two of my favorite fighters going at it. The only thing I would fear is that for some reason Froch has become shot over the last year of inactivity.
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Carl Froch is significantly bigger than GGG and has excellent stamina, a good chin, and rarely gets 'outfought', even against the elite of 168. He's fairly slow, his defense isn't good, and in my view he looks like he may be past his best, put I wouldn't be surprised if he's able to bully GGG and use powerful flurries to put him on the backfoot, where GGG has yet to look effective. It may seem that someone like Froch is made for GGG, but I actually think that the latter has looked most vulnerable when opponents have been agressive with him, stood and fought in close, or forced him to move backwards.
Though I believe that the time may be right for GGG to win this fight, I wouldn't be surprised if Froch were able to get the better of him. Remember that GGG is far from a big MW and while he obviously punches very hard at MW we don't know the extent to which his power will carry up; Martin Murray was able to last deep into their bout, and Froch is a not a tough MW but fairly big SMW renowned for his toughness and ability to overcome adversary at a higher weight. Admittedly I think that Froch would be more likely to walk on to a big shot than Murray was, but I'd be very interested in seeing how GGG copes if he lands good punches yet still has Froch coming at him determinedly several rounds into the bout.

I hope it happens. That would be a real "drama show".
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
GGG should stay at middleweight and keep fighting there just as Hopkins did for a long time. The big fights will come. When guys go jumping weight classes for money that is when the trouble starts. Stay at middle!!

Good one, I thought GGG said big drama show but close enough I get it thoughikorolev wrote:I hope it happens. That would be a real "drama show".
That said it would be a massive fight if they managed to pull it off for September.

The bit in bold is a very bold statement.
I would never say there is anyone GGG can't stop, he's one of, if not the, heaviest handed dude in the sport.
No doubt Froch's height, size and reach will give GGG trouble, his strength will be a bit of a leveler and his chin gives him as good a chance as any of making the 12 rounds. But to say you don't believe for a second GGG could stop Froch is an overstatement.
I'm edging towards a GGG win, potentially by either method. But wont write Carl off totally.
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
+1. Its a mistake to give away significant size advantage to a world class boxer. And if he stops Froch there will be no way back to MW, people will be even more reluctant to fight him there. Your size should determines which weight class you belong, nothing else.Lancenix wrote:GGG should stay at middleweight and keep fighting there just as Hopkins did for a long time. Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Somebody was saying in this forum that Froch doesn't gain much weight between fights walking under the light heavy limit which makes him weigh about the same as Golovkin between the fight. Does anybody know if that is true ?

Looks like froch is getting dismantled if the fight goes ahead

Ggg by late tko
Froch is tough, but too much retirement talk in last year. I don't see him being too motivated
Frock is good fighter. But always been a tad overrated as well
I remember jermain Taylor only being 15 seconds or taking a knee on his way to defeating Froch

Any talk of a potential date? I'm going back to the UK in September and would love to be there if this fight happens.

Fingers crossed it happens. I'm extremely confident Golovkin will stop Froch. I'll be placing a significant bet on it. That's not saying Froch won't have success but somewhere down the line it will turn into a fight and GGG will take him out. Carl is made for him.
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Gents,
It's never going to happen
Froch simply craves the attention.

Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
With all due respect to Golovkin, he took 11 rounds to stop Martin Murray on his feet at Middleweight a couple of months ago.
The notion that he would blast Froch out of there quickly or even at all at Supermiddleweight is pretty fanciful.
Pretty sure Froch would have handled Murray in just the same way, if not more comfortably than GGG.
IMO Froch takes the best Golovkin has, bullies him and likely wins, possibly by a late stoppage.
Plenty of punchers have come up from MW to SMW and their power hasn't translated.

Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Won't happen for the simple reason that if Froch wanted a 'farewell fight' he could probably choose a lot of other guys and make the money for less risk.
OK, so reading the article and the quotes shows this is more than just speculation. But Froch has had a lot of time to weigh this up. Maybe he'll be getting pressure from his girlfriend not to take it, maybe his wad is enough right now, maybe he thinks he can't win. At the same time it's a lot of risk, but I'm sure he loves the chance of a big marquee farewell that will get people excited. It's all down to Froch here and could go either way, but I'm still saying the fight won't happen.

I also don't think GGG, or at least his team, is as willing to swap divisions as they claim to be. I believe that he'll keep fighting at 160, which his body seems to be much better suited for anyway.

I think so too.crusader wrote:I also don't think GGG, or at least his team, is as willing to swap divisions as they claim to be. I believe that he'll keep fighting at 160, which his body seems to be much better suited for anyway.
It's one thing taking a lot of clean shots from a second tier middleweight with a 28% KO rate as GGG did on the weekend, to going in at the deep end with an elite, tough super middleweight who can genuinely bang.
I hope it happens though. It would just further cement Froch's legacy as a warrior who ducked nobody.
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Froch's chin would be his downfall here. I think the towel comes in from McCraken after a brutal 9 round beating.
Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
You're right, but forget an important factor: Froch will come to win, not to survive.Maxsplit wrote:With all due respect to Golovkin, he took 11 rounds to stop Martin Murray on his feet at Middleweight a couple of months ago.

Murray didn't try to win after the fifth rd body shot knockdown; thereafter, he merely attempted to make it to the final bell.
Froch would let his hands go, no matter what.
Anyway, Carl just likes having his name in the medias; it's a PR stunt, destined to spur interest on his farewell fight against whoever he chooses. And it won't be GGG, believe you me.

Re: Carl Froch Vs Gennady Golovkin In Talks For September
Ι Believe that GGG can come to the Weight in at 164-165 Lb and Rehydrate up to 174-175 and not risk getting too much muscle mass because after that he might never be the same if he goes back to 160.. But this will be a huge risk against a Huge elite fighter named Froch.
