Gonzalez stole the show as expected, he was brutal in his finishing but I love his footwork, he's always stalking and in range,it must be a nightmare to fight against someone so polished and in control,he made Sosa look like a journeyman ,can't wait to see him again,hopefully won't have to wait too long

It wasn't the greatest performance I've seen from Golovkin but he still got the job done,the left hook for the 1st KD was textbook, I loved the way he dipped to the left then just froze before unleashing the shot,fair play to Monroe,he's a skillful fighter who'd easily beat Taylor, the ref nearly ballzd it up by giving a long count,it was clear Willie didn't want to contine but Jack made him quit

If somehow Monroe was to have fought on to get the win then the GGG camp would rightly be fuming,

Roman Gonzalez: WOW. What a fighter, looks like he's making a case for pound for P4P#1 already, certainly showing Floyd how to put on a show for the fans, not that Mayweather's interested.
A genuine superfight looms with Japanese sensation Inoue a division up, HBO might push for that - only problem might be the Japanese star has only had a handful of fights, and they may be reluctant to put him in with a destroyer like RG too soon.

Another routine win for GGG, horrified to see numbskull referee Jack Reese getting the big gigs , he's obviously got equally dumb friends in high places, but actually had a decent flight until he made incredibly brave Munroe have to say I've had enough, rather than count the guy out which would have been the decent and honourable thing to do.

Inoue's camp have said they are open to the fight with the Ohashi gym being a promotional outfit that allows their fighters tonight bouts against the likes of Gonzalez. Unlike British promoters a lot of the Japanese promoters don't mind a fighter picking up a loss. I would however suspect that the bout would be next year at the earliest after hand issues have plagued Inoue's 2015 so far.

There not many fighters whose feet I watch more than there hands but Gonzalez is that guy,even when watching him on YouTube, I was mesmerized by his footwork, he looks like he can write THE book on pugilism

Its the way he shifts his weight through his hips whilst moving, means hes always on balance to throw a hard shot even while hes changing angles. And he certainly would show most fighters a thing or two about how to cut the ring off.

Amazing performance. Sosa knew he was done for. Speed, footwork, timing, power, body positioning, feinting all the skills of an all time great. It would be great if he could eclipse FMJs potential 50-0. My favourite fighter just now.

Yeah I noticed that. I think they said in the studio he was unbeaten in 88 fights or something then Rawling said he won 79 and lost 1 which he said was a bad decision lol. Conflicting stories. Suppose it doesn't matter on the grand scheme of things really.

I mentioned in the OP that Gonzalez probably wouldn't get the love and credit from the US fans/media with him being a little'un but they seemed to love him,surely the networks will be queuing up to get him,Max Kellerman seemed genuinely impressed

I'd love to see him and Golovkin fighting on the same bill again,luckily they seem to be 2 of the most active champions in the sport,showing the rest of the champs how a real champion becomes great

Angles and positions of advantage are achieved by the use of good footwork. Could only manage 6 or 7 minutes of that.

I've never noticed anyone cut the ring off so easily and effectively as Gonzalez, that was something I liked on that Youtube clip and other vids I've seen of him,he makes Golovkin look like a plodder

It still amazes me when I see pro boxers, including world champions follow their opponent with cutting the ring off

That's likely true, and if you want to consider level of opposition even Mayweather's 50-0 wouldn't be as good as other fighter's records that have losses on them. The thing that gets me about arguments over the relative quality of Chavez's 87-0, Marciano's 49-0, and Mayweather's 48-0 is that by only talking about those records, and despite the ostensible focus on quality, people are implicitly emphasizing superficial figures (number of wins and lack of losses) at quality's expense.

If people celebrate someone for breaking a record that is numerically based they should stick to the relevant numerics, as once you veer outside that and consider quality of opposition there are plenty of fighters with stronger resumes.

To back up this point, I believe the longest active winning streak at the moment, is held by Noknoi Sitthiprasert who has won over 50 successive bouts*. His competition has been embarrassing but he's been running up those wins.

*Noknoi's record is missing at least 1 more recent win though I'd not be shocked to see him missing several.

Yes, great economy of footwork, always facing his opponent no matter where he moves, and commanding the centre of the ring. He uses very little energy, whilst they end up doing big circles around the ring, until he levers them into position and lines them up for the combination.

It's a shame there's no real stars at his weight, a fight with Rigondeaux looks to be the only way he's going to get the kind of fight his talent deserves.
