Slice of luck in the first due to early stoppage but also incredible heart and will to come back from those first few rounds and put Groves in serious trouble like he did. Absolutely no luck involved in the 2nd.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I wouldn't call it luck, no more than Toney was lucky against Michael Nunn.stevedoc wrote:froch of 3 years ago might of toughed it out but the froch that fought groves twice would get the crap bashed out of him if groves can land his right hands with such ease and damage what would golovkin do , as for size froch isn't a giant 168 fighter he's not struggling to make the weight i don't see it being a massive difference it might just mean GGG is quicker . golovkin isn't your normal puncher he doesn't seem to gas out like many punchers ,i just think froch was a bit lucky vs groves and he hasn't got any younger since .

come on all boxers throw punches to land not to miss i've thrown 1000's of darts at the trebble 20 but only have one 180 if i wasn't a bit lucky why didn't all the other darts hit the 60 .

I tell you what, I hope that most of you are right and honestly, you do make a lot of sense in proving the case that this fight might be better than I and others think it will be. The move up in weight was not something I was taking into account as much as I probably should have. This will be a jump up in size and skill as not only will it be GGG's toughest opponent but his first taste at a new weight class. That's significant.
GGG's defense isn't exactly impregnable and this could turn out to be something I should be more excited about. Ok, I'll buy in with this logic boys. Great points, dudes. I'm in.

And u can assure you, Moogie, casual fans are exactly the type who tuned in to Channel 5 to see GGG-Murray. He is known.
Re: Froch vs Golovkin in talks...
Did I read somebody saying in here that Groves would trouble GGG? He could win a few rounds until the first time GGG landed then it would be game over. Higher weight division or not, Groves doesnt have the chin to handle Golovkin.
If this match up came about earlier in Frochs career then it would have had a trilogy written all over it.
50-50 fight in my opinion. If Golovkin won then I would finally agree that he is the machine people are hyping him to be.

You can frame it as Bute being knocked into the middle of next week, yet the fact is that he wasn't even knocked down despite a history of vulnerability and a KTFO loss to GGG in the amateurs, and in my view someone who is a very big puncher would probably be able to at least drop an opponent such as Bute if they landed as well as Froch did over several rounds.Taylor, who had already been knocked senseless in 7 as a middleweight, has faded late in several bouts and was clearly very fatigued in the final round of his match with Froch. At no point before that had he looked seriously hurt though, and the way the bout unfolded fits with Froch being a heavy-handed but not great puncher who tends to outlast opponents due to his impressive stamina rather than blasting them out or seriously hurting them whenever he lands well. I think this is what happened in the first Groves bout as well, and though he scored the impressive KO in the rematch that type of KO against a top ten opponent is clearly anomalous looking at who else he's fought and the manner in which he's stopped them.big lennox wrote:Bute was knocked into the middle of next week. It's just that the Kessler's, Abrahams and Johnson's of the world have great chins.crusader wrote:Bute never even went down despite taking loads of clean power shots and Groves II was clearly an anomaly looking at who else he's stopped and how he's stopped them. With him I think it's mainly about volume and outlasting opponents, and while he's got heavy hands he's never struck me as an exceptionally hard puncher.big lennox wrote:He might not be a Nigel Benn type puncher, but I would say he is a very hard puncher. Look at what he did to Groves (both fights) and Bute. His fights against people like Kessler and Johnson went the distance because they have got seriously good chins, and lesser opponents would have been flat on their backs.
I think people always underestimate Froch's punching power and timing. His handspeed is not amazing like Calzaghe or Roy Jones, yet he always manages to land his shots.
I agree that people like Kessler and Johnson were fairly durable and hence not stopping them isn't a sign that someone isn't a good puncher, though Kessler was dropped by one shot from Allen Green shortly before the Froch rematch and in my view looked like he was more susceptible to being hurt than previously.
Again, I think Froch is an above-average puncher, but saying he's a very big puncher is a stretch in my opinion.

I think Froch could make 165 if he wanted to, and I think he'd cope with Golovkin's power in moderation, but G's workrate'd give him all kinds of trouble if he couldn't boss the fight. Froch would have to 'Foreman' Golovkin with shoves and spoils. It's a winnable fight for him, but I fancy the momentum's with Golovkin.
I'd give Froch roughly the same odds against Stevenson, and that'd be a much bigger win for him. Or maybe the Ward rematch. But not Kovalev, and - for the limited kudos of beating a middleweight - probably not Golovkin.

I recal seeing a video of Groves on YouTube a couple of years back, he said he had recently sparred with Golovkin, i believe he said something along the lines of he was able to hang with him and that gave him some confidence.Emmseegee wrote:Did I read somebody saying in here that Groves would trouble GGG? Would love this fight to happen, not sure how likely it is though.
Froch has nothing to prove, so will only do it for a huge pile of money or if it was in Vegas.
GGG and Loeffler like to mention big names but i'm not aware of any offical offers being made by K2 to any of the fighters he mentions.

I doubt Froch is THAT bothered about Vegas. It was just that Chavez Jr was an easy fight so it sounded good. I bet he wouldn't fancy Ward there.keirw wrote:Would love this fight to happen, not sure how likely it is though.

Re: Froch vs Golovkin in talks...
Trinidad started his career at junior welterweight and won titles in 2 divisions, beating top fighters along the way, before winning a title at MW, losing it to the incredible Hopkins, announcing his retirement, then coming back as an etiolated version of what he was. He didn't exactly fall apart as soon as he decided to move up, and he moved up significantly more than GGG would if he jumped to 168. As for Abraham, even at MW he was clearly worse than GGG in my opinion and despite some impressive KOs he looked unspectacular on several occasions against opposition like Mahir Oral, Kofi Jantuah, and Lajuan Simon (someone GGG flattened in 1), none of whom I considered top 15 opponents at the time. Perhaps the only top 10 fighter he faced during his reign was Miranda, and he had his jaw smashed to bits in what was a grueling bout for him.We saw what happened to Abraham when he moved up, and Trinidad, and a host of others.
Of course many fighters have faltered when they've moved up and I think GGG is best-suited for 160, but many others have succeed as they've jumped divisions so a few examples to the contrary isn't exactly persuasive evidence. I think GGG will stay at 160 anyways, as despite the talk of switching divisions there isn't much evidence of him doing that and I think he's in a very comfortable situation whereby he can keep adding to his already increasing profile and purses through continued dominance at the weight.
I think 160 is ideal for his body and Lee or N'dam/Lemieux wouldn't be poor opponents. I know there is demand for him to move up, but I don't have a problem with him staying at MW when he's not even big at the weight, just as I don't have a problem with Froch moving to 175 for bouts with Stevenson and/or Kovalev that would be far more interesting to me than Kessler II, Groves I and II, Mack, Bute, and matches with fighters once suggested as possible opponents like Degale and ChavezSteveDow wrote:http://www.BS.com/golovkin-tar ... ner--91288

I think we will have to disagree on this point. When I saw Bute's head being knocked about, Froch looked a hard puncher to me. When I saw Groves getting stretched out, Froch looked a very hard puncher to me.Both fighters were in the top 10. Kessler got put over by a light heavyweight (who starved himself to compete in the super six series) and it was more of as flash knockdown -Kessler looked embarrassed more than anything.
If Froch didn't punch very hard then, with his open style, people would just walk straight through him, but they never do. There must be a reason for that.

GGG is not known outside of boxing circles. Whomever said that casuals tuned in to see GGG v Murray should perhaps adjust their definition of a casual boxing fan.
I like GGG a lot but I have no interest in seeing him fight Froch.
I doubt that the fight will happen. GGG just doesn't draw a crowd so the financial side of things are a barrier.
I would prefer to see GGG unify at 160, he isn't big at the weight anyway so why move up?

I think Groves sparred three rounds with GGG when the latter was in the early stages of getting ready for a title fight. In other words, I don't think it means very much.ALI wrote:I recal seeing a video of Groves on YouTube a couple of years back, he said he had recently sparred with Golovkin, i believe he said something along the lines of he was able to hang with him and that gave him some confidence.Emmseegee wrote:Did I read somebody saying in here that Groves would trouble GGG? I never said Froch doesn't punch hard--I suggested that he doesn't very hard, as in exceptionally hard. To me someone with that type of power would've put Bute down and wouldn't need to wear down and outlast opponents like Froch did against Taylor and Groves. People don't walk through him because he's got solid power and hits them back, whether with a good jab or something else.
