It is surprising to see how some people are underrating the value of Frampton in Ireland. Just because he doesn't fit the standard criteria for a fighter in this country, some write off his ability to make money.

I think the main problem for Frampton is McGuigan doesn't have any money so his negotiating position is very weak e.g. he can't outbid the backers of Frampton's main rivals and secure a fight on his terms. To make matters worse, Frampton is just about the only viable asset in the McGuigan boxing business. Barry doesn't want to risk his source of income, so the level of competition will probably drop off until an offer that really is too good to refuse is made.

Indeed, reportedly there's been problems with the sponsors of Cyclone Promotions and I'm sure that terrestrial TV doesn't pay enough to get the bigger names.

I like both Carl and Quigg, but have to agree with what you say Mullenman.

Barry seems far too stubborn and emotional during negotiations. He was quick to rubbish and reject offers, but make none of his own. It was frustrating for boxing fans to see.

Would love to see the Donaire fight.

I think Nonito has plenty left to offer and I don't think too much should be read into his 2 defeats.
Walters was just too big and strong for him, Nonito would be back down at SBW against a similar sized opponent in Carl
And he was just a tad bamboozled by Rigo and lets be honest, we wont be seeing anything like that from Frampton
Donaire would pose a real threat and the styles would mesh nicely I suspect
I'd still fancy the younger fresher Frampton to come out on top of a very entertaining and difficult bout.
Also it would be a very big name for Frampton too, so should be a good payday

Yet Hearn received a lot of stick! Undeservedly in this case.

Yep, at least he put his cock on the block with cash, dates, venue and television to consider.

I saw nothing by return, which tells anyone they have zero intention of doing the fight.

They complained about him going public, but like he said, Carl was not even in the meetings and all that had to be said behind closed doors, had been said. I've not seen anything to dispute that from Barry's side. It seemed like the faster it all blew over and went quiet, the better as far as they were concerned.

Back to hand-picked weaklings from the IBF top ten at the Odyssey, instead of the fight boxing fans wanted to see.

Well played.

You can't make offers if you haven't got any money. Actually, that's not always true, but I don't think McGuigan is much of a businessman.

Or they don't have the money/TV deal to put the fight on.

Why would Carl need to be in the meetings? Quigg probably wasn't in them either.

Hearn went round and round with his offers, £1.5m, 50/50, 60/40 to the winner, for some reason he wasn't willing to offer Frampton a guaranteed 60/40 split of the purse.

It isn't even a great fight, the only reason anyone's interested is because it's a domestic fight, but we'd still have to pay £20 to watch it.

Hearn says he has no idea why Frampton said no. Imagine if haymon called Hearn tomorrow and said let's do brook v Thurman in Thurmans hometown with 60/40 to the winner or a guaranteed 1.5 mill to brook. What do you think hearn would say?????

There's a chance he'd take the guaranteed 1.5 mil

Brook has very solid financial backing. Frampton has a former bankrupt milking him for all he can get. Eddie Hearn would probably do a deal if the price was right, but he can afford to name his price. The fact that he is promoting quite a few highly ranked fighters makes it easier for Hearn to dictate the terms.

Say what you want about his team but Frampton wouldn't be anywhere near where he is now if the mcguigans hadn't took him under their wing and helped to make him what he is - an unbeaten world champion with a huge following, with the potential to have very long career dominating a division.

Barry has always shown huge belief in Frampton.

I'm sure when he was fighting in Belfast in front of 15,000 screaming fans and aired live on ITV, winning a world title Frampton wasn't thinking he'd made a bad move.

We don't know enough about being promoters (apart from expe promotions, run from a bedroom in Preston, coming to a tin shed near you in 2016!!!) to know whether those offers are good money or not (different weight division etc etc.)

But if it wasn't I think Hearn would make a counter offer or make comments on the situation beyond 'we aren't accepting that, attend negotiations' or whatever words were said by Cyclone promotions.

McGuigan has been trying to get a fighter for years. Tried very hard to sign to sign a young Naseem Hamed and was very close to signing a young Tyson Fury. They did alright didn't they?

I think it is a really good fight and could look much more appealing if Quigg can demolish Martinez in a few weeks.

No way is it PPV though.

Generally you would and I think Barry was in some of the meetings, but if he's sending his son instead I don't think it's a massive issue.

They were at the IBF convention a couple of days ago and by all account it sounds like a defence in New York against Rey Vargas is being lined up.

Hearn says Barry didn't attend. If his son attended on behalf of Cyclone, isn't his job to maximise the profit on a promotion?

Yes. That fight is taking place in Tokyo and it is a very winnable fight for him, I'm sure that he will make a few quid and keep the money train going, whilst the Super Bantamweight division clears itself out.
jameswilson wrote:If I was him or his advisor I'd just call the eliminator off and go straight to the title shot.
Why would he take a fight that he would get trounced in? This guy is only beating Asian-level fighters, what makes you think he will leap in against an elite level fighter like Frampton?

"Asian-level fighters" ???

Have you looked at the world champions and world rankings from flyweight to super featherweight?
