Yes, I'll be watching his fight tomorrow with interest.
I think Kalenga will likely defeat Lebedev in the main event. And if Kudryashov beats Palacios, that could set up an interesting potential matchup of Kalenga vs. Kudryashov.

Like Kud a lot and hope the catch his fight tomorrow. I'd love to see him face the winner of Kalenga-Lebedev.

I am having a hard time keeping up with the names of these European fighters.

Maybe assign numbers to them: Ivan 1, Ivan 2, ...hulkmaniac wrote:I am having a hard time keeping up with the names of these European fighters.

24-year old Bivol, former Russian amateur champ, stops Piternov in 3. Another Russian light heavy prospect.

Scary looking dude, looks like he's just about to lose his shit and straight up murder your ass. Scary in the ring too!
Last night's fight here. Funny moment at 5:11 of this video. The crowd are doing a sort of tribal chant, and Kudryashov knocks the guy out with one punch perfectly in time with the final shout of the chant.

reminds me of a story- possibly apocryphal- of a US commentary on an olympic basketball game involving the USSR, once
'big guy, passes to the little guy... back to the big guy who shoots....,'

Sounds perfectly rehearsed! I'm going to be looking out for more synchronised punching/tribal chanting at Kudryashov fights. I refuse to believe this was a fluke. Next time Dmitry tries out the more tricky 5 punch combo to mirror each drum beat.

Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
He didn't look great today but he was also fighting an opponent who held constantly and focused on spoiling.
Who should he fight next?

Wlodar... Of course Usyk would be a great fight, but Usyk's handler's won't take it.crusader wrote:He didn't look great today but he was also fighting an opponent who held constantly and focused on spoiling.

Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
Wlod was my first thought.
I think the biggest shortcoming Kud showed tonight was his judgment of distance, as Meroro was quite easily able to rush forward and hug him for the first three rounds. Kud started to time this better and take quick steps back in the 4th (see Kovalev-Hopkins), and the fight didn't last much longer after that. Someone like Wlod will likely give him more offensive opportunities and not attempt to hold nearly as much as Meroro did, though a mediocre sense of distance is a limitation against a range of opponents and not just huggers like Meroro. I notice that some people who watched him for the first time were unimpressed and I can see why, but I expect him to look better against opponents who are more aggressive and don't spoil as much. A mobile fighter with good boxing skills could be his kryptonight, but the division is short on those types.

Was there chanting?
Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
There was, and there was chanting for Drozd and Povetkin too.
The variety and force was especially impressive this time, and I wonder if its magnificence distracted Kud too much during the first few rounds rounds and thus prevented him from scoring another early blast-out.

Maybe it wasn't synchronised as it should have been?crusader wrote:There was, and there was chanting for Drozd and Povetkin too.

Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
That could be it...and perhaps that was the cost of the extra force and variety. They tried to do too much and poor Kud had to go 5 and a half rounds this time before getting his knockout.

Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
Am I the only one thinking he may have been trying to get some rounds and try new stuff? He did look crap for 4 rounds but finally came alive and did the job quickly. Prior to the stoppage he was never in any real risk despite losing a few rounds
Re: Dmitry Kudryashov
Could be....he didn't seem to get out of first-gear for a while.
He'll be back with another impressive KO soon; give him someone who comes to fight rather than hug and you'll see.

He's one of my favorites, and part of the reason why Cruiserweight is currently my favorite division.
He looks like the devil or some kind of berserk ax murderer.
