Who should Anthony Joshua fight on July 18?

Post by Freedom2013 »

After Kevin Johnson, Anthony Joshua is scheduled to fight again on July 18.

Who would you like to see Joshua fight on that card?

Suggest a few opponents.

He shouldn't schedule an opponent until the Johnson fight is over.

Seeing as it's a close date and Johnson may take him the distance, it's unlikely to be much of a step up. Perhaps a southpaw for the experience.

I mentioned on a different forum that he should be getting in experience against different styles and maybe a southpaw and got told- "he's had 12 fights listen to yourself"

He needs to face one of-
A guy coming to win
A southpaw
A guy who can move
A guy his same height
A guy who WILL go rounds

I'd like to see him in with someone like Charr (tough but limited), Takam (slippery), Ustinov (big guy), Arreola (comes to win), Whyte (personal rivalry from the amateur)

There is no point in continuing these 1/100 squash matches and it's time he starts fighting some fringe guys who want to win.

I'd like to see him perhaps fight Christian hammer who tyson fury beat last time out (to see the difference)!
Or failing someone who acts carries a bit of height like a Ustinov, all his opponents are a lot smaller

Like others, I want to see him fight a decent opponent who is roughly his height. He's fought too many 5'11-6'2" opponents for my taste and the only person he's faced who is listed as taller than 6'3" (the 6'4" Love) is a walking punching bag.

A potential opponent I've mentioned before is Johann Duhaupas (record below), who is listed at 6'5" and looks about it, has never been stopped or dropped to my knowledge, and recently beat Manuel Charr but lost to Erkan Teper shortly before that. It's someone Joshua should beat but not someone he should obliterate at this stage unless he really is an elite talent.

If he absolutely ruins Kevin Johnson they need to accelerate him. Ustinov,Wach, Takam, Tony Thompson etc.

Duhaupas, Charr and Hammer are all good options, provided Joshua does well in the KJ fight

Pianetta is fighting Chagaev for the regular WBA title in July.

I'd like to see Joshua fight Solis after Johnson.

If his fight with Johnson is gonna go the distance, then he should probably schedule someone easy for July and then someone harder again for September. After hitting a human punching bag for 10 rounds, he's gonna need to give his fists and body a little time to recover. In July, I would be looking to get experience against a non-top 50 southpaw like Jason Bergman or a big fighter like Dillon Carman / Newfel Ouatah / Gonzalo Omar Basile. Then in September, I would step him up against Fres Oquendo, Lateef Kayode, Derric Rossy, or Kali Meehan.

"Regular"? That looks more like the constipated WBA title.

I'd like to see Joshua fight Solis after Johnson

Good choice - a step below Chisora.

I do like Solis as an option. Is he still in the game after being stopped by TT?

I think these fights are more sensible and realistic. Fighters ranked 51-100 are perfect for a once a month schedule.

His promoter has said he will fight either Price/Chisora/Whyte in September so its bound to be a soft touch in July. By the end of the year he will have a better resume then Wilder though.

I think Thompson, Chisora, Solis or Oquendo would be right.

Chisora vs. Joshua would be popular, but they have rival promoters.

Charr would be a great choice. He's very durable and comes to win but has Mediocre skills and punch power.

I know though Peter Fury tweeted that they are targeting Charr or Arreola next for Hughie Fury.

So there appears to be something of a race on for Charr as an opponent!

Too good, as would be Thompson. They are both top 10 ranked fighters.

There's no need for Joshua to rush, unless he wants to fight Wladimir before he retires.

He should fight a few top 30 level guys before he goes after the top 10. There's absolutely no need for Joshua to skip a level considering that he's only 25 years old.

Entirely my sentiments. We don't even know if AJ is domestic title level yet.
