another stoppage win for mike on the undercard of the gary cornish title fight at the wknd there,im sure thats 9 wins and a draw now for the dundee lad,good to see gilmour keeping him busy im sure hes fighting again in a couple of weeks,this could be a big year for him

seen mike box amateur and pro and tbh i dont see what the fuss is about, his best win is against rhys pagan and since then hasnt beat anyone worth mentioning! rhys has been calling for the rematch due to some dodgy refereeing on the night which if im honest i agree with but mike is an ok fighter but lets there is no way that he will be allowed to fight anyone with a pulse while he is doing the ticket sales he is doing in dundee and away from home. am i right in saying that he more than doubled ronnie clarks ticket sales?

mike will be the cash cow for shows in dundee for some time yet and i predict that when he does step up in class he will be shown as a one trick pony, against kevin mcauley in the last few rounds he ran out of ideas and was struggling to keep mcauley off and i know mcauley is a good journeyman at the end of the day you need to look good beating his caliber of opponent but mike didnt.

I seen him fight and yea he not the best upcoming prospect but I do think he is 1 of the most exciting fighters around he is all action and worth every penny spent

I haven't seen him box but have heard good things,there hasn't been many big punching Scottish fighters lately,I do want to see him step up though, I've heard mixed reactions to the Pagan stoppage but either way the standard has dropped since that fight,he's active so that's the main thing but he'll eventually regress if he doesn't step up,but having a dig is a great thing to have in the pro game,judging from what I've heard I think he could fight for a British or Commonwealth title,I would have to see him to judge whether he could win it

I agree that he is exciting but at what level? He is fighting absolute nobodies and just because he is blowing them out doesn't men he is destined for the top. I would like to see him prove me wrong but I have also seen him soundly outboxed as an amateur by boxers who will never win an amateur title.

7 wins and a draw I'm sure mate, as for some comments there , he hasn't fought anyone as good as pagan yet and is being built in dundee, so why they gonna take risks when not needed, when the risk is took it will be a home fight, mike has a very solid following, his ticket sales for dundee were mainly corporate sales with him basically selling the floor out with meals and buffets aswell as brining the sponsor for the show, mike has a style that the neutrals are gonna love, I'm guessing there gonna try and make him a more complete fighter before any major steps are taken, he's 23 years old so no need to rush, one thing I don't agree with is every fight being built as a learning one etc, it seems he's sorted his weight out, he's a level above the journeymen, his next 4 fights for me , maybe with a few keep active fights between them would be Craig kelly, Matt Mcallister for the Scottish , if he wins them then Denton vassell tied in as an eliminator then a possible final eliminator, that takes him to around 12 fights, as for Rhys pagan his corner fooked him, he was out on his feet, and was about to be hurt, early stoppage maybe yes, a bad stoppage? Not at all!!

i watched Mike on Sat and he hit his opponent with loads of punches before stopping him, more concerning for me was his lack of defence he was caught far too often, that will need to tighten up massively before moving up. great support he had in there as well and they created a cracking atmosphere. good luck to the lad

Not anywhere near ready for top 5 at Welter or light middle. He's also not that much of a cash cow. Saltire obviously see something in him. He is exciting and depending how he progresses he may get a crack at a British Title. It wasn't controversial against Rhys Pagan, Rhys was punching Mike all over the place then burnt out. Mike is a tough kid he took everything that Rhys had then when he started to take over Rhys had nothing in the tank. Was a good stoppage as Rhys was going to get hurt. Mike gives it his all seems to have the opinion of he's going to knock them out or be knocked out. Got to admire that. As for ticket sales both have a similar fan base. Mike pushes for the ringside/sponsor tables will always help getting fights.

You are right Mike isn't anywhere near ready for a top 5 Welter.

He is a cash cow, he sold more than double what the next fighter did in Dundee (Ronnie Clark) and he always takes good support when he travels. On your point of he goes for corporate tickets then that is even better, if he can sell tickets at £100 + then 100 tickets is £10k that is better than someone selling 100 x £50 tickets and only bringing £5k to the show. That is why he gets lots of fights because he can bring in the cash to the show!

I disagree with your assessment of the Rhys Pagan fight. I don't drink and watched it sober and I saw the fight the complete opposite way!! Mike came out like a man possessed and went for Rhys and probably took Rhys by surprise but Mike was very tired going into the 3rd round and he did catch Rhys a good punch at the start of the round but Rhys started to get things together and at the time of the stoppage it looked like he had started to work Mike out. I spoke to a coach at an amateur show and he basically said the referee admitted to him that the stoppage may have been premature. Pagan's team have chased the fight since and were willing to fight him in Dundee, if it was that easy why not do it again ala Froch vs Groves to prove it wasn't a fluke?

Fights with Craig Kelly , current Scottish Champ Matty Mcallister would be good all Scottish fights. imo he beats Craig Kelly but gets outboxed by Matty. Seen lots of Matty from when he was young and he has always impressed me.

I hope that mike goes on and proves to be the great exciting fighter that puts Scottish boxing back on the map and hopefully TV but imo he gets shown up at British eliminator level at welterweight. We will only know this once he steps up in opposition.

Mike sold all the floor and Ronnie sold balcony tickets, I sell ronnies tickets and at no point did he ask me to sell the buffet seats as there to get behind and pushed me to sell balcony in which he sold all them ones, he also sold tickets, money sold all corporate tickets and brought in more money, but he defo didn't sell twice as many tickets ha, also he had about 5 ticket sellers, Ronnie doesn't I deal with it in spare time, I think mike could be the pick of the welter a of they don't miss the boat and over complicate him, stick to what he's good at

Only time will tell with Towell.

But, for what it's worth he'll soon be filling out arenas on his own. I've said it before he's the best prospect in Scotland at the moment. It's perfectly true to say that he couldn't figure out a way to stop Kevin McCauley, but who does ? But I care to bet that Kevin wouldn't REALLY want to fight Towell again !! I saw the fight and there were no laughing and joking from the visitor on this occasion -it was simply survival.

I'm totally neutral I can assure you , but Towell will be a British champion at least, and if your Scottish that should be good news.

Of course mate everyone is entitled to an opinion, I think he has a very good style but for me what happens when he boxes a tidy fighter who has a bit of power, I much prefer the boy Connor law, but again his time will come, I said when he turned pro the boy law is our best hope, he's class, mikey may well do the British but for me the route will be planned, and older he gets less likely as he needs to keep the edge he has walking forward as boxing wise he won't out jab people he's gonna need to be young and hungry,

Ronnie taking some time out , few personnel issues and just enjoying have time off basically, still keeps fit as he never stops training, plans to box again just isn't keen on fighting journeymen, wants 50-50 fights and on boxing sometimes just isn't possible, kinda two options, kickboxing all over the world at the highest level and try out k1 or box journeymen, all about weighing up his situation and see if he wants to give it another year really.
