Oddest title

Post by Old bones Ian »

Was just having a look at a few names on boxrec and found that Maxim Nesterenko v Jackson Osei Bonsu was for the WCOB Global Welterweight Title.

any ideas what WCOB stands for?

I've also just noticed that Jacksons nickname is "Sugar The Ball Brains"

I've no idea what thats all about, looks like a decent boxer from his record though.

World Cup of Boxing. It does a computerised thing and proclaims it's champions. Harmless enough.

It does of course sanction the handful of fights it's asked to do under the "global" title unmbrella

I watched Jackson spar Hatton for the Maussa fight. He was dropped heavily by a short right hand and later from a bodyshot from Rick.

Looked like he could dig a bit though.

I thought the USBA Southern regional title that was on the line in one of the undercard fights on the bill headlined by Samuel Peter (his last fight) was one of the oddest titles I have seen.

I find the Celtic belt odd, seeing as us Cornishmen can't fight for it. :D

Or people from the Isle on Man or Northern France, I'd guess.

Shock horror! You don't think that this 'Celtic title' is merely a *gasp* marketing exercise and attempt to grab some sanctioning fees and sell 'title fights', do you? :D

PBF vs Bruseles was for the "WBC All-African title" whatever that means.
