Stewart-Hunt off
Stewart-Hunt off
Hennessy Sports regrets to announce that the Championship Boxing promotion at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday 27th January 2006 has been cancelled following the withdrawal of Danny Hunt from the headline event.
Hunt was to have met Wanstead based Scot Dave Stewart, promoted by Hennessy Sports, in an eliminator for the British lightweight Championship.
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
Our next event takes place on Friday 20th January 2006 at the York Hall. It is headlined by Lenny Daws final eliminator for the British light welterweight title against Colin Lynes and will feature a typically strong Hennessy Sports undercard. Tickets are available on 0870 444 555 6.

Hunt didn't withdraw from the main event at all, he was never in. The reason being that Hennessy royally screwed up the purse offer and twice failed to fill in the contract properly. The 'honest' old Board tried to bully Hunt to fight under the terms of an incorrect purse offer by making stupid threats, a scandal in itself. Maloney and Hunt being one step ahead, got Lawyers involved and the Board backed down with serious amounts of egg on their faces.
So therefore, Hunt was under no obligation to fight under those terms. Firstly, Hennesssy put the wrong money on the contract
and then said that Stewart could weigh 11 stone and Hunt only 9.9 !!!!!!
This show was never on. York Hall was never a confirmed booking, tickets and posters were not out and Hennessy knew he was fucked all along all because his staff messed up a simple form.
God help Junior Witter with this lot batting for him at the WBC!
Class of 2006 - must do better
Wellington...tell the truth, was it you who screwed it all up for your guvnor?
Doh!

No, for looking after your mother in such a way.
Still, as a journalist why don't you find out about this situation. It is a scandal and involves all sorts of skullduggery from the BBBC. Would make a great article and may earn you a few schekles.
Ask MH and SB for their comments and smell the BS from both. Then ask FM and DH for their side and the letters.
Instead of all the gossip crap on here get your teeth into a real expose story.

To be honest with you, Maxboxing aren't really interested in that sort of thing, it's too peripheral and too particular to the British scene. In addition, I don't find it interesting either.
The particulars of contracts, purse bids, etc are just a labyrinthine mess that I don't want to go into.
I am interested in covering what I consider a real scandal, like the highway robbery Robin Reid suffered in Germany against Ottke, and the tacit corruption of the IBF which supported it wholeheartedly, but I am far less interested in the constant shenanigans and rumour mill and internicine wars between rival promoters.
I'm interested in fights and fighters.
As i said elsewhere, the truth in boxing is as elusive as the proverbial crock of gold, everyone has their version of it.
We all know that the blazers at the BBBofC have hardly covered themselves in glory over the years, but it's something I don't have the time or inclination to cover right now.

James, James, James.....
Fights and Fighters? What about Danny Hunt, is he not a fighter? The IBF, WTF? thats done and dusted, move on? The way the BBBC and in particular the Gen Sec , Mr Block have acted in this case is bordering on corrupt too and this is ongoing. Purse offer procedures are simple to understand regardless of what body is involved. This is a real and straight forward stinker and you don't care because it doesn't interest you, what about your readers. Are you MH's pal or something. Actually, he hasn't done anything wrong other than make a right FU of a simple contract, inept yes, dishonest, well not in this case (Apart from his PR, aye Wellington?
) . Basically, The BBBC allowed him to get away with it contrary to their own strict rules and then they made threats of sanction to a fighter because they got found out bending over for MH.
Yeah, right, you care about fights and fighters!
Robin Reid is a whinger, alway's has been, and he is not the first, nor will he be the last to get stiffed on foreign shores, He knew this when he went to Ottke's back-yard. Ottke refused to ever fight anywhere else so why the surprise. What about Victor Polo, where's his support. Did Reid get stiffed in Florida? Were there dark forces working to stop him training or was he quite simply shite, the latter I think!
It seems to me that the respected posters on here, you, it appears being one of them, shy away from the real issues, the important matters of the business and you are all frightened of dipping your toe in to the water to actually find out the facts and the truth, the nitty-gritty may interest you. Why is this? you soon all became armchair lawyers over the Hatton case without any evidence so why is case this different. Is DH not famous enough for you lot?
Instead, heresay and un-educated opionion is the staple diet of you people. Why find out the truth when your own, and others, answers suit your purpose and the truth might not be half as exciting
As for Max Boxing not being interested, then that in itself shows that they don't really want the truth and prefer the steady stream of controversial bullshit they and other sites gfeed the 'fans' with.
As for you, where your ambition? Screw Max Boxing, do the article and go to Boxing News or anyone else, ambition, hello?
The truth is, none of the posters on here actually know anything about the sport other than what they see on TV, are told by other fools, or they read about on these cancerous forums.
Either shit or get of the Toilet I say!
Here endeth the lesson!

Well boxingchat, you're obviously interested in this little "scandal" as you have a vested interest - ie slagging off the comp at every opportunity.
But to be honest, most boxing fans on here are more interested in the real fights out there - like Morales this weekend or, shock of shocks, the realish fights Sportsnetwork are now being forced to put on - as a result of being dumped by Sky and now having to suck up to ITV instead.
Calzaghe in a real fight?! It only took 10 years didn't it. Harrison in a real fight! The last thing his management wanted....
As for an expose - I'd suggest a look into the backroom deals conducted by your company and the WBO and WBU would be a good start.
Enzo number one contender in the world? Now there's a nice scandal for you

You might think this story is of earth shattering importance because as Mighty Warrior points out, it gives you another opportunity to gloat and slag off the opposition. Good for you, but if you want to find someone to write this piece, I suggest you commission someone else, I'm not interested.
As I said earlier, quite simply I do not have the time or inclination, which bit of that do you not understand? Perhaps if someone in your family develops alzheimers you will see that quite frankly I don't really give a tinkers fart about this situation right now, in the scheme of things it's about as relevant to me as a gnat's testicles.
This forum may be full of conjecture, but there's a reason for that mate, it's that promoters never tell the bloody truth, and that goes for all of them. We are all left to infer the truth from what we here, because it's virtually impossible to get a straight answer. I'll give you an example if I may. When I phoned Sports Network last year to find out about rumours that Vivian Harris wasn't going to fight Hatton and that the fight was off, I spoke to Mr Warren directly, and asked him a straight question
"So Frank, what's going on with the fight, I've heard it may be in trouble."
"The fight will go ahead as planned."
"So there's no truth in the rumours that...."
"I said the fight will go ahead as planned."
This continued until i was given the firm impression I wasn't going to get any further information.
Now, as well all know, this fight never happened, because Harris pulled out. Now of course, that's not allegedly's fault, it was Harris and his new manager Manny. However, I think it very likely that Frank by this time knew that the fight was in trouble. If i had heard it was on the skids, then I'm pretty sure someone directly involved would know before I did. However, my suggestion that it was in trouble was stonewalled and met with more than a little bad temper and annoyance.
This is a typical reaction not just of the head man at Sports Network, but people involved in the business aspect of the game across the board. Fighters don't want their purses declared, managers don't want to declare all their interests and options in various fighters. Promoters don't want to delcare their assets or how much they pay their fighters, nobody wants to tell anyone anything.
If you want everyone to know what's going on, simple, open the fornicating books up so we have facts and figures, if not, don't complain when people have to try and second guess. what are we supposed to do, phone promoters up and demand the truth, or call them liars if we don't believe what we're told.
If you wipe your finger round the toilet rim, don't be surprised when it comes back smelling of shit.
You constantly regale everyone for knowing fornicate all about boxing, whilst neglecting to mention that the only reason you know anything is that you work for a promotional outfit yourself, despite your denials it's clear as crystal that you do, but don't have the gumption, or the authority to come out and declare it in the open, which I don't know.
As for ambition, i have other fish to fry, and I certainly don't need to take directions from you on what i should write about. I write about what interests me, and what i think will interest readers. Despite what you might think, not many people are really that interested in the ins and outs of what the BBBofC does aside from people on the inside who have been complaining about the board for years now.
If it's no surprise that Reid got shafted in Germany, it's even less of a surprise that the board have failed to uphold their own strictures (allegedly) , it's hardly the first time the board have been accused of serving their own or others interests rather than their own rules and regulations.
Maxboxing is a mainstream boxing forum, which generally speaking covers major international bouts, and contender level fighters from around the world. They are primarily covering american boxing however.
If you are so keen on doing a hatchet job on Hennessy and the board, then why don't you write in to them yourself, you seem to fancy yourself as something of a doyenne of boxing, so perhaps you could write in under a nom de plume.
You obviously don't read maxboxing very often, if you think they are part of the rumour mill you are always whinging about, on the whole maxboxing are a professional and fair handed outfit who run balanced pieces about the sport.

I read with interest your obvious frustration and put your little rant down to your personal circumstances at present so I will not respond in too much detail. However, You have my sympathy and respect for your situation and your present feelings.
However, answer me this, why should anyone, least of all Boxing Promoters and fighters disclose their finances to anybody at all when no other business or person is subject to the same scrutiny by fans or customers. Incidentally, are SN not a PLC? Buy some shares then maybe you can ask the questions.
Incidentally, does your employer show you his books? Do you know what your collegues or services contractors earn? If all employers showed their employees their books they would all ask for pay rises, without reason and anarchy would ensue in the workplace.
However, that said, I fail to see why you lot are so interested in finances all the time. Perhaps as I said, if you learnt about the inner-workings of the game instead of calling everyone liars and sharks then you may understand why these details are kept confidential.
You stated that you spoke to Mr Warren over the Vivian Harris situation and he told you one thing and may have known different. Is that not his right until such time the situation is either rectified, the relevent interested parties are told and/or the fight is actually confirmed as being off?
The very fact you got through as a non-full time journalist speaks volumes.
Incidentally, have you ever tried ringing Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger to question players wages, team selection or TV rights. Unlike the courtesy a BP would show you I get the distinct feeling you would be told, albeit in a foreign and If you got that far, to fornicate off and mind you own business.
If you stopped slagging people off and actually learned the trade you may have some authority to write the things you do on here.
As for being an expert, maybe or maybe not, but believe me I 'd leave 99.9% of you lot standing.

That wasn't a rant, it was my considered reply. Even under different circumstances, I certainly wouldn't take instructions from you on what I should or shouldn't write about. There are countless examples of shonky business and other practices in boxing, it's because boxing is run by individuals with the aid of sanctioning bodies rather than by a single body to whom everyone is accountable to.
The BBBofC are not exactly replete with money, and this has consistently led to accusations that they are foced to kow-tow to promoters in order to persist as an entity.
The same is true of the major sanctioning bodies. They exist by extracting sanctioning fees from promoters and their fighters, wihtout this they could not exist. This makes them greedy, and means they favour fighters who are draws in their rankings as they can provide more in the way of sanctioning fees.
Without the money of promoters to put shows on, cable TV companies to sell the product, boxing would virtually be non existent. If it was left to the money from gates, boxing would have dissapeared as we know it 20 years ago.
At the end of the day, the major global sports are answerable to their governing bodies and so information is able to be got at.
Well, with respect to the fees paid for players, these figures are generally in the public domain. It's commonly announcned how much a player is transferred for and often their weekly wages and even signing bonuses. Even
I would presume that allegedly spoke to me because it was in his interests to do so, that's why most people speak to Journalists, full time or otherwise. Over the years I've written countless articles, mostly on British fighters on American websites, to try and popularise up and coming British fighters. Mostly this has been gratis.
The reason I don't bother writing for boxing news is that I had an article published by them, and spent 6 months chasing up the paltry sum I was offered, and after that decided I wouldn't bother my arse again.
As usual you remain nebulous and evasive about what exactly it is you do for a living. Perhaps you would care to confirm whether or not you work in boxing or not. If you don't then presumably you are an investigative journalist or are affiliated to someone involved in boxing, because much of the knowledge you have, especially pertaining to sports network, is certainly not in the public domain, very little information about the business aspect is.
How exactly do you suggest people acquire knowledge of the business? Apply for a promoters license? In fact that is probably not a bad idea.
Yes, it is Mr Warren's, or any other promoters right to withold information until such time as they feel it fit to release it.
However, any promoter who has such information and refuses to release it, cannot then complain when people speculate based on information they hear from other sources, that sounds uncannily like wanting to have your cake and eat it.
However, I don't see Arsene Wenger threatening legal action against a football forum for comments made on it, nor have I heard of any other manager/chairman/club doing so.
I've also never heard of a football match being cancelled and a sub brought in at short notice, when was the last time you heard of Man united playing preston north end because Arsenal refused to turn up?
This sort of thing happens CONSTANTLY in boxing, with people getting shafted over tickets or buying tickets for fighter X against TBA. I cannot think of a single other sport where this happens.
I am not particularly interested in finances incidentally. it's just that so much of the sport is dependent on it. Fights constantly fall apart over purse disputes/TV rights/syndication/ etc etc etc, that it is hard NOT to get involved in talking about finances.
As I currently work for the NHS, and everyone there is paid to scales, actually I DO know how much my co-workers earn.
