I noticed the Benevidez vs Paez jnr fight last week was shown on truTV in the states.TruTV have a channel on sky so could be an opportunity there to show some fights from their US channel too.

I don't think anyone wants Sky to drop boxing. I think the problem is Sky giving all the boxing to one Promotional outfit, effectively freezing everyone else out

The thing is that all those channels do not make any real investment into the sport. Sky pay the promoter (Matchroom solely now) and that gives them a better standing for putting on high quality shows (something that Matchroom are very hit and miss at accomplishing).

allegedly understandably has a very small budget and cannot really afford huge fees to promoters who are not allegedly (their international content is purchased relatively cheaply because it's an international feed with the home broadcaster covering most of the production costs).

ITV hasn't had a boxing budget for years. The Frampton fight was paid for by a third party.

Ch5 also currently only deal with one promoter and again the fees paid are reported to be minimal. Plus CH5's output for boxing has been reducing for some time.

Spike are part of the same group as 5 in the UK and one suspects they are only doing shows where the production costs are paid by the promoter.

Eurosport used to pay a small broadcast fee, but my sources tell me that they are now only taking boxing if the production costs are paid for.

Am i the only one in thinking that maybe Sky keep Matchroom as the sole promoter because there worried of losing the darts??

Spot on,I am no Hearn/Sky bumsniff but British boxing needs a dedicated sports channel to push the sport be it Sky or BT and show some long term commitment to boxing so I`m glad Sky have committed to the sport for another 5 years.The other channels are just to flaky in regard to boxing to be relied on and I do like allegedly but doubt it will last long term and it just can't generate the interest in the fights like Sky can.Hearn does need to up the quality of the normal Sky shows they have been poor this year but Liverpool and Manchester should be much better.

I would like a few dates kept for other promoters but they have decided to keep the hassle to a minimum and deal with just one promoter and I see there logic in that even through there is also flaws to that approach,having the other sports especially darts help Matchroom in there dealings with Sky.

I do believe British boxing would be on life support if Sky ever got rid and a sports channel like BT didn`t take up the slack.I think people are deluded to think channels like 5 and Spike and even ITV will invest and help the sport in the long term and allegedly will always be to niche to keep the sport going.
