REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Let's be real about this! Outside of the names Mayweather or Manny how in the hell can boxing compete with the UFC??? How? Yeah we have
guys like GGG and Kovalev but overall? Damn near every UFC card leaves you on the edge of your seat and did anyone see this past weekend's
fight Cormier vs Johnson? Or even Weidman vs Belfort? How can you honestly sit here and tell me honestly that the usual boxing card can compete
with a UFC card? How??? I live here in Houston and let me tell you these popular sports bars makes their money off NBA, NFL, and UFC fight cards
on average. Every so often a Mayweather vs De La Hoya or Mayweather vs Pac comes along!!! The top payouts for UFC champions are 500-600k
along with sponsors and its steadliy going to increase they are featured on ESPN given great coverage just like boxing! Mark my words! UFC
will eventually take over boxing. Guys like Mayweather have killed the sport. Picking and choosing, ducking the best fights, paying guys to take a
dive, etc... DRAMA draws interest! Mayweather has no drama in his fights!!! Tyson? Drama!!!! Hearns? Drama!!! Duran? Drama! Holyfield? Drama!
Ali??? Drama! Foreman? Drama! Bowe??? Drama!!! Vargas??? Drama!!! Pac? Drama!! Holmes?? Drama!!! Joe Louis? Drama!! Aaron Pryor??
Drama!!! Felix Trinidad? Murderous Dramatic Fashion!!! Hagler??? Drama!!!!!!! Frazier?? Drama!!! Ray Robinson? Drama!!
Floyd has raised the bar on payouts but in terms of excitement he has damaged the sport of boxing and you'll see what I mean sooner or later.

Guys like Nigel Benn, Joe Calzaghe, Froch, Hatton, Kosta Tzsu, etc.... are definitely worth mentioning!!! Floyd's reign is terrible for younger
youth want to join boxing learning the craft compared to the action packed UFC.

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Two different sports pal.
Dont forget to mention the hump fest that make up like 75% of mma fights.
The ufc are master's at hyping unproven fighters up and alotta young fans fall for it being that it seems most fans are teenage wwe fans.
The top fighters and most skilled right now are top 3 p4p....
Jon jones
Jose Aldo
Cain Velasquez
Now that Anderson and GSP are gone its up to one of those guys to step up.
Jones just had some legal issues so he will be away for awhile.

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Yeah but did you see Cormier vs Johnson this past weekend? That fight was filled with flash knockdowns and olympic caliber slams lol....Man please
right now...at this stage....boxing doesn't have the same adrenaline rush as a UFC card. I'm just being honest? But props to GGG or Kovalev
they are really truely trying Canelo too!!! They are not trying to cheat the fans they are literally trying to give people something to talk about after
their fights so I love em for that!!!! They are trying!!!! I am talking about every freakin Saturday night when there is a UFC the sports bars where
I live are PACKED!!! No parking room whatsoever!!! But like if GGG is fighting and no UFC card that Saturday there are dozens of spots to park.
I'm not joking I am dead serious. I have been seeing this trend for the past 3-4yrs consistently. Hug fest? You never know what's coming in a UFC
fight Judo Toss, JuJitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Karate, Kickboxing, etc...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEobDQp31JA

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
They do put on some good fights every now and then.
But the ufc does a helluva job at making you think that a D level fighter is evenly matched with an A level fighter.
Its hilarious every promo has some new dumb ass silly stat like "oh this fighter has the most landed right hands in the history of the fly weight division"
Yet that division has been out for a whopping 3yrs or so.
Like i said they may fool a 14 yr old with that shiit but c'mon now.
They do have some very skilled accomplished guys though those guys easly stand out if you follow closely.

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
UFC 187 was class and UFC 189 looks just as good.
UFC definitely do better promotional work. The Embedded series was a brilliant idea and it's great to watch.
There's still enough drama in boxing to keep me hooked though. Recently Mattyhsse Provo, Canelo Kirkland, Burns Figueroa and Degale Dirrell have all been great fights.

188 Cain v Werdum should be a good one too.danamba7 wrote:UFC 187 was class and UFC 189 looks just as good.

Nothing will "take over" boxing.
It may have it downs but there's nothing like boxing when it has it's up's.
Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Boxing is still way bigger than UFC. UFC has made up some ground but the mayweather vs pac purse is probably higher than all UFC purses combined in 2015. the pac may fight is of course an exception but there are also other fighters who make a lot more Money than the top UFC guys.
also consider that there are only a fraction of MMA Cards than there are with boxing.
Overall boxing is still way bigger than MMA and it probably ever will be. boxrec has probably listed 15000 active Boxers or so, how many MMA fighters are there?

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
The late Bert Sugar once described UFC as "two grown men trying to mount each other". If you get off on that spectacle, then good luck to you. Personally, I've never seen a UFC event that was worth watching, even for free.
Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
That MAYPAC was totally a slap in the face to everyone that supported boxing for years. Mayweather made 200million and Manny 120million plus
and they both stunk up the joint. Seeing all those smiling faces walking into the MGM like as if they were going to witness an alltime great event
and for it to turn out like it did its sad. And you sit here telling me that boxing is better than the UFC?? Really??

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
That fight was such a disgrace that it will overshadow everything else for several years to come! That was a huge black eye for the sport of boxing
and both Manny and Floyd should me forced to retire. Mayweather's potshotting show getting paid 200million lol You see in the UFC Floyd's
potshotting wouldnt work because someone would pick him up, slam him, then punch him in the face as he lays on his freakin back!!!!!

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Competition is good. I think UFC has helped boxing some as young people wouldn't dream of watching boxing if it wasn't for UFC, as UFC has gotten them use to watching One-On-One combat sport.
Here is the BIG PROBLEM W/BOXING.
If boxing was UFC, Tyson Fury, Wlad, and Wilder would all have fought each other already. If boxing was UFC, May-Pac would have fought 6 years ago.

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
watched it a couple of times thought it was boring and certainly not a threat to boxing, if your only watching the boxing that is fought in the usa then your missing out, luckily theres a lot of countries with their own thriving scene like the uk, japan and germany among others so we dont have to rely on the limited amount of quality matches to come out of usa

what i've seen as well has been boring with the fighters hugging each other and with the rounds longer it seemed boring to melittlepug wrote:watched it a couple of times thought it was boring and certainly not a threat to boxing, if your only watching the boxing that is fought in the usa then your missing out, luckily theres a lot of countries with their own thriving scene like the uk, japan and germany among others so we dont have to rely on the limited amount of quality matches to come out of usa

UFC will be the poor cousin to boxing forever.......unless they can steal most of boxing's future star's while their young enough to teach them
about Grappling/Mounting/Choking..etc.etc..etc...........Imagine a UFC fighter that's lika Hopkins you know fight's until his 50 years old
wins Championship's in to his 40's
this is something that i'll never see because the punishment that some of these poor UFC bloke's
take they'll be lucky to have enough brain cell's left to spend the money they made in their short UFC career
Money Wise it gotta make one wonder why fighter's choose UFC over BOXING maybe its their only option.
in BOXING we have THE DON.... KING/MR BOB ARUM/THE SAVIOUR HAYMON
WHO'S UFC'S................... KING/ARUM/HAYMON
D LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.

it's like comparing jazz with pop music
Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
UFC is more entertaining in that fights are more often quick and violent. Boxing is a science. I love both. They're nothing alike. To today's fast food, smart phone generation I can see why UFC is more popular to the masses. I get it. It's instant gratification.
Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Are you sure? a couple years ago the best MMA fighter was fedor and he never fought against the UFC fighters. currently there is not a strong second MMA federation but I'm sure MMA will devide like boxing in a couple years too.Tony1244 wrote:Competition is good. Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
Huge UFC fan & have been since UFC 4 , recently though its felt diluted. Putting on a lot of shows & those genuine stars are stretched too thinly amongst those shows.
The UFC numbers haven't been as strong over the last couple of years, maybe over-saturation, loss of a few big PPV hitters like Lesnar & GSP or weaker over cards. Boxing is still a bigger deal in the public mind-set & that's why when boxing has a big attraction it means a lot more & the real big fights attract such ridiculous numbers that the UFC is still miles away from.
The advantage I felt the UFC had over boxing at one time is that every fight on the card meant something whilst boxing was often sold as a one fight card with some meaningless undercard fights. The last couple of PPV shows have been solid but for last couple of years that hasn't always been the case, hopefully the UFC is returning to more regular stacked cards.
For those saying they tried the UFC or that its a hugfest please go online & look for a fight from last weekend's show, Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Browne. Then we can talk......

Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
I like both sports, and kind off fell off of boxing for a period. UFC cards typically and lately (The Last Card Was insanely good) have been poor. MMA is actually headed in a more technical direction and the Striking (Which is what fans want) has been decreasing as overall MMA skills have increased. PPV numbers in UFC are down or steady not increasing. I would say the two sport will coexist for a long time. We do need a new superstar in boxing. The UFC actually could use some too. The best conversations I usually have are with casual fans who say yeah boxing is dead, I can't name one boxer outside of Pac and Mayweather. Then I ask them to name 2 or more UFC fighters... And typically they can't.
Re: REAL TALK...Boxing vs UFC
