Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Honestly I've never really understood why we need strippers walking around the ring between rounds, in either boxing or MMA. I have some problems with Haymon's matchmaking style, but he's trying to produce a more family-friendly product for the networks and for that I can't fault him.
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Models cost money. Since they serve no purpose. What's the point?
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
People beating each other in a face often creating a bloody mess will never be family friendly.jujigatame wrote:Honestly I've never really understood why we need strippers walking around the ring between rounds, in either boxing or MMA. I didn't notice but I read that you never see the ring announcer except for the decision.
Probably just as camera shy as Haymon.

I totally agree. If a hurt sport is family friendly, so are ring card girls. If a restaurant advertises itself as family friendly, I avoid that restaurant. I'm anti-family.

x2 on the bolded part. Same with needing half naked ladies at car shows.Datsue wrote:jujigatame wrote:Honestly I've never really understood why we need strippers walking around the ring between rounds, in either boxing or MMA. Not so sure about that. It was an extremely popular sport 50-60 years ago, with millions of people watching fights on primetime TV. You have to assume a lot of families would watch together similarly to other sports.ikorolev wrote:People beating each other in a face often creating a bloody mess will never be family friendly.jujigatame wrote:Honestly I've never really understood why we need strippers walking around the ring between rounds, in either boxing or MMA. American football is violent as hell and is the most popular spectator sport in the US.

Those ladies probably draw a shit ton of extra people though.Emil wrote:x2 on the bolded part. As for combat sports... If they actually showed the ring girls on TV... I could vouch for them a bit more. With regards to UFC, I certainly don't mind seeing the girls at the weigh-ins or during the fights.

Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
You really think ring girls draw people to the fights? Anyone who wants to see tits can just go to a strip club, or ANYWHERE on the internet. I don't see why anyone would spend $50+ on boxing tickets to see women in bikinis.

Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
I guess that's less unbelievable, but still kinda weird.
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
...the presence of ring card girls IMO is not critically important, it's "nice-to-have" sort of thing as long as they keep in the background and not trying to hog the limelight..

Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
He didn't hire superfluous half naked women to hold cards, what a faggot.
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Ring girls is a tradition (and a good one in my opinion). Maybe we also don't need long announcements, national anthems ? Judges also cost money. Maybe refs could make final decisions ?

American football has cheerleaders. IE. Dallas Cowboys..
If women in bikinis are offensive to you, take personal inventory and ask yourself why?
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Ring card girls are NOT offensive. What's offensive are when ring announcers announce the name of anyone who isn't one of the fighters or the ref.ikorolev wrote:Ring girls is a tradition (and a good one in my opinion). Maybe they should have ring dudes when women are fighting?
Sounds like a balance.
Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Refs do make decisions at a certain level. Also, national anthems should be gotten rid of. How boring.ikorolev wrote:Ring girls is a tradition (and a good one in my opinion). Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
You could then apply that to pretty much anything then. There could be half naked women at the supermarkets to attract more men to go "shopping", etc etcJCS wrote:I was talking about the car show..jujigatame wrote:You really think ring girls draw people to the fights? Frida Wallberg already had a ring boy for her last title fight, though he kept his clothes on and wore a suit..Tony1244 wrote:PsychoGamerTwo wrote:I'd love to see ring boys.ikorolev wrote:Is it true ?

However she received a lot of threats for not having a half naked woman, so it seems like a sensitive issue.

Re: No ring girls on PBC ?
Ring card girls have never added value to a broadcast for me. I want to watch boxing, not a few seconds of a somewhat attractive woman holding a giant card over her head, especially when I can find equally or more attractive women wearing far less on what seems like every other website.
Is anyone going to really not watch a particular broadcast just because there aren't card girls? Haymon will probably save money by not having to pay them.
