Re: Danny Williams back on the road
The best made-up title imo was the "Vacant Black Country Supercruiserweight" title that was created specifically for Nigel Rafferty to fight for in his 100th contest. When asked by a reporter about the title the promoter said something along the lines of "The belt's almost finished-i'm just sticking the ears on the hubcap"
Raffo lost the fight.

Re: Danny Williams back on the road
To be pedantic (sorry) Sidon (and now DeMori) held the German based WBU V title (?)
There is also an American based WBU which has it's roots in the original Jon Robinson UK based WBU.

Let's hope there's only one WBB

Re: Danny Williams back on the road
Roy Jones Jr.(American) won the World Boxing Union (German Version) cruiserweight title against Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf(of France, by way of Algeria).
In Moscow, Russia
He defended his German version of the belt against Courtney Fry (UK)
In Riga, Latvia
He defended, once more, his German version of the belt against Hany Atiyo(of Egypt)
In Krasnodar, Russia
Take heart though, lest you think Roy Jones has abandoned the German version of that belt. He recently won it yet again, against the decidedly very-little-or-maybe-not-at-all-German Paul Vazquez of Martinez, California, U.S.A .

He looks like he's been handed a dog turd. Only it's something less coveted than that. I bet he thought 'what the hell does 88M mean?'.Galvanised Clout wrote:As far I recall he was completely unaware he was fighting for the WBB 'title' until the belt was thrust at him at the end.sgtcecil wrote:Didnt Cotto fight for the WBB not too long ago?????
Edit: He did, vs Mayorga!
You can see the bewilderment on his face in this picture:
'What's this f*cking thing, I hope I'm not paying a sanctioning fee?'
Re: Danny Williams back on the road
The fight is on tomorrow night. Any thoughts? I hope Danny does well.

This fight's tomorrow, and it's Kell Brook that's the PPV?

I didn't notice he was holding it upside then.deadpan wrote:He looks like he's been handed a dog turd. Only it's something less coveted than that. Is it a belt for the over 40s? Poor old Danny, sad to see him still at it.

You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: Danny Williams back on the road
Apparently Danny suffered a knee injury and had to pull out of the fight.
Re: Danny Williams back on the road
If he's lucky, it's career threatening. He really needs to retire.SteveO wrote:Apparently Danny suffered a knee injury and had to pull out of the fight.

I see Australia in the bottom left
Re: Danny Williams back on the road
This one flew under my radar - Danny Williams won again on the 23rd June against 6-36 Pavel Siska in the Czech Republic. Two in a row now! I think he will keep going till he gets his 50th win.

Oh dear, have you looks at the opponents record?
32 stoppage defeats
If Danny insists of fighting on, I hope he stays at this level, he's earning a few bob and shouldn't come to grief.

I'd rather he retired, but at least this looks RELATIVELY safe.Fuzzy Warbles wrote:Oh dear, have you looks at the opponents record?

There's no truly safe fights, but at least this guy looks pretty ambition free.
How much can these fights be making - surely not much over 5000 pounds a time, if that, and that before tax and expenses. I just don't see how he can be making a lot more, these are pretty garbage fights.

I thought Siska's record was bad but look at the bloke he beat in 2009 (his last win)

Re: Danny Williams back on the road
I agree, he should never have come back after the Chisora loss (and he's 'retired' at least THREE more times since then) and as you say no fight will ever be 100% 'safe' no matter how dire the opposition but I'd rather see him fight duffers like Siska than some young undefeated/ambitious banger.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I'd rather he retired, but at least this looks RELATIVELY safe.

As for money, who knows but as you say a four rounder on a minor show won't be making him a fortune.

This winning run may catch the eye of the MBC, Danny could end up fighting for the MBC 'World Title' if he's not careful
