Fighters with talent questioned about disciple has been a regular thing over the years. I'll just point out to have that level of skill in the first place that there has been hours of practice put in the gym that requires discipline.

The theme of last night for me was discipline. A few fights ago Brook was criticised for lack of discipline and has totally turned it round. On the flip side many are saying if Mitchell had been more disciplined he would be a 2 time world champ. Then you have Funtime Frankie - to me he can make a lower weight and had he been able to stay away from Birmingham with a more suitable trainer could have been a far better pro.

There are numerous fighters over the years who let themselves down due to discipline.

In people's opinions who has not achieved what they could due to it and who has gone on to surpass expectations based on such discipline (Quigg is one I'd say)

Ricky Burns.....Decent talent, great heart and discipline. Maximised his potential, maybe even surpassed it

Michael Gomez was extremely talented yet lacked discipline.

Clinton woods on the other hand, was the epitimy of a hard working pro.

Chris Edwards was a solid professional who looked well on the road to becoming a journeyman before becoming British and Commonwealth champ and had the best engine I've ever seen from anyone and I include all the modern greats,some of the old timers had unbelievable engines but in all my time watching the sport,no one comes close to his work rate and punch output

Discipline is the key to success in boxing, loads of talented lads have fallen by the wayside through lack of discipline, I turned pro at 23 but had zero discipline, I'm disciplined to eff these days why couldn't I have been that way at 23

Without being disrespectful but the McDonnell's are the most talented but there stamina usually wins them fights, they must be very disciplined and hard working.

Froch is probably the best example of a British fighter getting the absolute maximum out of his himself through hard work and discipline.

It's a key attribute to have. You could have talent and probably cut corners in most sports but in boxing you will get found out if you don't do it right! Ricky Burns for me has a good jab and does the basics very well but through hard work he went to the top of the world! That should be a template for all young guys coming through!

Nick Blackwell is a great example of someone who has stayed disciplined and overcome setbacks through pure graft and determination.

If he sticks with Gary Lockett and stays at British title level for the time being who knows where he could be in 2 years time.

He seems to have all the mental and physical qualities you need to go all the way, just lacks the talent to cut it at the top level.

He's one of my favourite domestic fighters, been following him since I saw him fall short in a brave effort against Martin Murray. He was only a kid then and has come on leaps and bounds since. I'm hoping Lockett can show him a few tricks and tighten up his defence a bit.

A kid that tough with that much desire could go a long way with a bit more technical ability.
