with respect nobody deserves four attempts do they?bripez wrote:I think that Clinton Woods won his world title at the fourth attempt so it may happen.tilt wrote:Hope he gets another shot ,he deserves it. If not back the boozer init
Generally speaking though I think that if he hasn't done it after 3 attempts then they don't really deserve another go - unless he does a proper rebuilding job, beating top contenders etc. and not just another straight shot.
It is not as if his shots were against pound for pounders and the fact that he shifts a load of tickets should not be the differentiating factor in my opinion.

Re: Where now for Kevin Mitchell?
Why do people keep insisting that Mitchell has had 3 shots at a world title?
Katsidis fight was for a WBO Interim title

Re: Where now for Kevin Mitchell?
rocky juarez had five..not really an issue is it, especially now the belts are so fragmented. bigger issue could be how much punishment he took in that fight and the way it ended. if he wants to be tying his own shoelaces in 10 years it might be better to quit now, but finances lure could force him on

If he`s been drinking wine 9 weeks before the fight then I`d argue he`s not an alcoholic, just a guy who likes a drink. There are many people who think they are alcoholic when they are actually just people who like a drink more than the average bloke. Believe me, there is a big difference.
I like a drink, but I´m not an alcoholic, I like to get high on all sorts of drugs, but I`m not a junkie either. I can take them both and leave them both. They don`t take over and I know where to draw the line after a while.
Gambling however has a different hold over me. I would never (I hope) go into another Casino as long as I live, or start betting online again. I know that if I did, it will spiral beyond all control very quickly. Thus I have a gambling problem.
Much like alcoholism, you either knock it on the head completely or it will gradually get worse until it destroys you and those around you.
Good post mate; I'm very much the same way when it comes to gambling.

Fairly certain mitchell and hearn will wait and see if crolla can win the wba title as that fight would be easy to make if he does

It won't happen as it would be curtains for the loser, but based on their last two fights, I'd love to see the Burns rematch. Would be an absolute war if we got the Burns that turned up v Figueroa, and the Mitchell of last week.

In an ideal world, no, but that ideal world doesn't have 4 world titles in each weight class does it?billy nelson wrote:with respect nobody deserves four attempts do they?bripez wrote:I think that Clinton Woods won his world title at the fourth attempt so it may happen.tilt wrote:Hope he gets another shot ,he deserves it. If he's shown he can tough it out at the top, should he have to stay at fringe level just because 'nobody deserves 4 shots'? That's a bit simplistic IMO, Billy.
Re: Where now for Kevin Mitchell?
He hasn't though, he's fought three times at that level and lost all three comprehensively inside the distance. It's clear that he doesn't belong at that level, so why should he be given another opportunity?MarkMcBurney wrote:In an ideal world, no, but that ideal world doesn't have 4 world titles in each weight class does it?billy nelson wrote:with respect nobody deserves four attempts do they?bripez wrote:

If he earns it then it will be fine, but I doubt that he'll have to beat anyone decent before getting another crack at a world title.expe wrote:He hasn't though, he's fought three times at that level and lost all three comprehensively inside the distance. Kevin Mitchell
I know he performed out of his skin last weekend but just listening to him talking on Sky how much has he got left? Has he got enough to win a world title? I am a massive fan I would be so happy for him if he can do it

Re: Kevin Mitchell
No. He isn't good enough. He has had opportunities against 3 fighters who are just below the real top level and has been stopped every time.
Unless he gets a vacant shot at a completely unworthy opponent, he has no chance because he has not beaten one fighter who you can argue is world class

Re: Where now for Kevin Mitchell?
I think he sould get some juicey domestic dustups and see where he goes. Losing in boxing doesn't mean your career is over; Just ask Amir Khan and Manny Pac.

Re: Where now for Kevin Mitchell?
You are right, he could have some great match ups domestically. He has had a good career and entertained along the way. Khan and Pac comparison is a little off though, these two have beat top level operators. Might be hard for Mitchell to find the motivation to go back to a level he may feel he doesn't belong at.Eddy wrote:I think he sould get some juicey domestic dustups and see where he goes. Yeah but Khan was KO'd in round 1. Never avenged that defeat (plus losing twice again), and re-built his career to fight at world level. So Kevin could do the same. I don't think he is as talanted as Khan but his career is not over unless he calls it quits. He should defly focus on big domestic fights. Which I think are more exciting.

Now there's 17 x whatever.
We can't really compare title shots with the old days.

Mitchell will get a rematch with Linares, and on that performance he deserves it. He was up on the cards and those facial injuries, which were pretty awful, were the primary reason it was stopped. He could have carried on.
These close, evenly matched fights between two skillful boxers are the reason I watch boxing. The rematch will be just as competitive.

Mate Kevin was out thought and outclassed by Burns, he done a far better job than Linares, give Burns credit ffsthepocketrocket wrote:I can see that being made as a rematch.
However, that would have been such a damaging fight for Kevin. once wonders whether his best was left in that ring last night.
Also, shame he couldn't have kept of the ale and trained properly for Katsidis and Burns. One suspects he would already be a two time champion
