RIP Keefy Ellis 1958-2015

Post by Like a Boss »

Australian boxing has lost one of its greatest ever characters and self proclaimed greatest trainers, with the passing of Keefy Ellis.

As anyone who follows boxing would know, Keith trained his younger brother Lester to a world title, and according to Keefy at least, more Australian title holders than any other trainer - and who would argue with him on that or anything else?

They broke the mould when they made this fella. There will never be another Keefy Ellis. That much is bloody certain!

I used to get a laugh out of watching how worried Peter Maniatis looked when he had Keith Ellis as a guest on his KO Boxing show. Keith would say he had a joke to tell and Manny would go into panic mode in anticipation of what was about to be unleashed on his viewers

When Keith was asked about Lesters's drinking problem he replied: Lester only drinks twice a week, the first drink lasts 4 days, the second one lasts 3 days.

I once read a interview that Keith did I think it was in a aussie boxing mag probably over 10 yr's ago or even longer but I do remember it was
a classic......I remember he made reference to a certain boxing journalist that would need a map if he ever tried to find his way out of Newtown  :salut:
