I'm surprised hardly anyone is backing Mitchell here...as long as it goes the distance he wins the fight on points. And to me, he has the slipperiness and evasiveness to frustrate Linares the full 12 rounds.

Yes, Linares has freakish power but if you can't get a clean shot on the opponent it doesn't matter *how* hard you hit -- and Mitchell is one of the toughest people in the world to hit clean IMO.

Linares is a pretty-boy fast-handed flashy stand-up boxer. He has never been known for his power; he couldn't even dent Hector Velazquez, who's about forty & been stopped a dozen times.

I have literally no idea what you're talking about but I have a feeling that you have got Linares confused with another Venezuelan lightweight, Edwin Valero, the big-punching southpaw?

I would say that's an easy mistake to make, but one of them has a massive tattoo (versus no tattoos), one of them is a southpaw (rather than an orthodox fighter), one of them is a one-dimensional vicious puncher who KO'd everyone he faced (versus a flashy stand-up boxer with fast hands who only stops shot veterans & second-level opposition) & one of them has been dead five years.

Just to dispel any remaining confusion you have, Jorge Linares wasn't even a massive puncher at featherweight, & is, to the best of my knowledge, very much alive.

Well Mitchell was faring pretty well the first half of the fight and was definitely frustrating Linares who wasn't getting much work in early....wheels just fell off at the end.

So I was half right about him being hard to hit. He almost won the fight!

Hahahah true but most of that damage came in the last round of the fight when Linares just started hammering on him, especially that huge nasty swell. The cut was from a headbutt if I recall.

I mean you gotta admit, Mitchell *did* do a helluva job avoiding damage for the first half of the fight. Just couldn't maintain it the full 12.

For someone who's consistently fell short, he has got way more exposure/attention than say, Ricky Burns, who was a legitimate champion in that weight division. Problem is, Mitchell is on the journalists/Sky's/Boxing News's doorstep and Burns was up in Scotland.

I'm obviously in the minority, and i haven't re-watched the fight, but at the time i saw Mitchell losing handily at the time of the stoppage.

Knockdown round aside, i thought Linares looked in control throughout - dictated the pace and ring position, Mitchell was super hesitant to throw early on as he was getting timed and countered, most of Kev's work were cuffing shots hitting arms and gloves, the cleaner more effective punches were always coming from Linares, as evidenced by their respective faces at the end of the fight.

I was watching the fight with a few mates who are all heavily involved with the sport as fighters/trainers etc, and despite the standard ludicrously biased commentary from Halling, we all saw a brave effort from Mitchell, but a fight that was controlled comfortably by a measured performance by Linares

Scorecards baffled me to be honest, as do the assertions by most in the last couple of days that Mitchell was just 'unlucky' and was a couple of rounds from a comfortable win.

I watched the fight without sound but when I noticed that Watt gave the first to Mitchell, even though Linares clearly shook him at the end in my view and was never himself hit by anything meanginful, I suspected that he'd already taken sides.

I agree with this. IJL's scorecard having Mitchell up six rounds was as bad as anything I have seen.
