It would take some big investment and some really big names to change some peoples perceptions. Sadly (think it comes from football) some people will always perceive Skys product to be he best whether it is on that night or not. They'd watch something like Quigg in another nothing defense over Golovkin v Murray just because ones on Sky and ones on Ch5.

I'm glad to here It that but strictly speaking I didnt say Sky got more viewers I said there are plenty of people who will automatically presume anything on Sky is of a better quality than channel 5 without actually looking into the quality. I still believe that statement is true.

What is the incentive to invest?

Boxing on Channel 5 does a million views if it's lucky. It costs thousands of pounds to put on a boxing show. Production alone could be around 30k and then if it is paying the promoter a fee to "invest" in their stable, that would add another 70 to 100k to the costs per show (that figure is historically around what Sky used to pay when they had regular boxing).

So, you're looking at a substantial outlay for around one million views.

Channel 5 could buy a film for a tenth of that figure and still get similar viewing numbers.

Its on early isn't it that 8pm ish? With boxing usually starting at 10pm hopefully that helps the boxing ratings = more

Getting the GGG v Murray fight was a definited coup for them and a treat for those of us who don't have or particularly like Sky. And they made a good fist of that nght as well.

I hope Channel 5 stay with it because it is good for boxing and the fans...but I worry that they've spent a great deal of airtime and money in following Kid Galahad's rise and now they've not got much to show for it and that makes it very hard for the sports department to keep on spending money on boxing with the big executives who hold the budget.

My personal preference is that ITV - with their deeper pockets and naturally bigger audiences - have a good experience with Frampton and begin to invest in boxing again. Their big Saturday night fights used to great for them and us and why not keep some of that audience with a big fight after the usual diet of talent shows? Makes sense to me and I really hope that ITV get stuck in again....

The football will be on 9-10.30 so any boxing would be on after that if they bothered

Why do you say that Dennis Hobson seems confident of working with Spike TV again, Spike and Channel 5 are one in the same really as others have said maybe the bigger card/main events on 5 with the less cards/undercards on spike. It certainly doesn't suggest less interest from CH5/Spike for boxing.

because of the previous post confirming they had picked up a football deal , I think , but hope i'm wrong that starting a show on a saturday night at 10,30 will be a no go , like I said , I hope i'm wrong .
