Ricky Burns bankrupt.
Re: Ricky Burns bankrupt.
allegedly is a total shark, we all know this. He uses and abuses his boxers, it's clear he is the sort to withhold a payment and use it as leverage in negotiating the next purse or next contract with a fighter.
He basically seems like the sort of guy who once your involved with, you will have an awful mess on your hands if you try and get out of it. Best advice would be steer clear of him totally, whatever people say about Hearn, he seems to pay his boxers and generally be a better person to deal with for the boxers themselves. They're all sharks but Hearn is the much lesser of the evils.
The amount of wrangles Warren has had with his boxers, the amount of times he's ended up in court and the amount of companies he's put into liquidation just shows what a total rat he is.

I couldn't agree more. A bunch of puplic school boy lawers making their dough off the back of a working class boy who's made something of his life. "YEAH BUT HE BREACHED HIS CONTRACT " - OK, what about frrank paying Joe Calzag the £2 mill he owes him then. Another boxer who got screwd!!Stuarty30 wrote:http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scott ... ky-5394541
allegedly stays rich and the lawyers get richer. The guy who has made all the sacrifice ends up potless! Leaves a bad taste in the mouth this story! I hope Ricky can get his head together and put on another big performance in May and reignite his career.
All those years Ricky's spent in the gym and those tossers take it all. Filth

Totally understand Cobra but FW has been going a lot longer than Eddie. The future might not always be so rosy, as you mention, they are all sharks and in it for the money.TheCobra wrote:allegedly is a total shark, we all know this. I bet Eddie was able to get Ricky some good advice though.

I see on the back of Burns declaring bankruptcy Alex Morrison has now done the same after failing to pay damage costs to allegedly.

Re: Ricky Burns bankrupt.
is there any reason a fighter looking to sign with a promoter such as allegedly couldnt set up his own company, make himself an employee of said company, and then put all business deals with the promoter through the company? then if the fighter finds himself in a spot of bother like ricky has, just fold the business and walk away unscathed as frank has?

Re: Ricky Burns bankrupt.
That's a conundrum, I think the bottom line may be that a fighter gets into the ring, not a limited company. In Hollywood even if the asking rate is thirty million dollars to star in a film, at the end of the day the film company / studio is hiring the individual star, not his company. But I am all for anything that gives fighters more protection from the pitfalls of the business side of the sport.mike john wrote:is there any reason a fighter looking to sign with a promoter such as allegedly couldnt set up his own company, make himself an employee of said company, and then put all business deals with the promoter through the company? then if the fighter finds himself in a spot of bother like ricky has, just fold the business and walk away unscathed as frank has?

Morrison reckon has got enough to pay the 50k, but he has stuck everything in his daughters name.
I can't see FW getting a penny.

Re: Ricky Burns bankrupt.
They could do it if they want. I think promoters discourage it for obvious reasons. Why would they want to deal with a company representing a fighter which could liquidate (as a promotional company would) and fornicate them over?JimJim2009 wrote:That's a conundrum, I think the bottom line may be that a fighter gets into the ring, not a limited company. It's not possible to sign a boxer promotor agreement if you are a limited company the problems start when boxers get wrongly advised and sign private agreements that run alongside the original board agreementmike john wrote:is there any reason a fighter looking to sign with a promoter such as allegedly couldnt set up his own company, make himself an employee of said company, and then put all business deals with the promoter through the company? then if the fighter finds himself in a spot of bother like ricky has, just fold the business and walk away unscathed as frank has?
