They said on Radio 5 Live that he was up at SMW weight on day of fight
I thought it was IBF rules that you can only put on 10lbs? I thought I read Brook was around 154/155 as well, but I could be wrong
I think Kell was 156 mate, although I was told he weighed 14st2lbs at fight-time :box:

It may be that until Bundu and Brook that Frankie felt he was as strong as a the welters he was facing? Maybe the mauling Brook gave him will make him see that at 10 stone he may have the best of both worlds, akill and atrength. He'll just have to leave all the take aways alone for a few years.

Always rated Frank. Hopefully it is sarcasm, Kayes has looked after him all his career.

If he stays at welter he's got nothing coming.

Did anyone read his article on nutrition in boxing news? Wasnt too impressed by it to be honest. Seems rather basic for someone who was on the build up to the biggest fight of his life, not that im suggesting a perfect diet would have made much of a difference vs Brook.

You can't wing it at the top level in any sport and mistakes in preparation in boxing are exposed ruthlessly. The tone of Frankie's muscle does not look similar to any top class welter and while I understand it's not a body building contest you'd imagine a boxers muscles to look exercised, toned and to have latent power. I'm bone idle but have a menial job and my muscle tone is similar to Frankies, he should be looking like he's prepared hard and is ready to match fire with fire if his skills don't dictate - I bet Brook couldn't wait for the bell to go last Saturday

how can i say this without sounding like a bigot , it seems to me that many travelers have bad diets basicly eating fried cafe food . i've worked for or with a few travelers and there was a lot of fried bread and such this might just be the guys that i knew but it would explain why travellers never seem to have much muscle or power .

I know a traveller family that eat really simple meals like boiled potatoes, cabbage and gammon. Stuff like that. When I suggested getting a takeaway once they looked at me like I was insane. Started saying shit like "I'd never eat that foreign muck..."

But I bet a lot of the younger generation are different.

Anyhow, Gavin's not really a traveller, only on his absent dads side I believe. He does however always go on about ordering pizza on twitter

I think part of the appeal of Frankie is that he seems such a normal man, eating pizza, having a beer etc etc - he has the persona and image that he's so gifted he doesn't have to work as hard as the next ambitious boxer. If he sorted his diet etc out he'd be a strong and talented light welter - I bet Kell had to work and sacrifice more to get to welter than Frankie will to get to light welter.

So let me get this straight. Some folk STILL think this guy's woes are all because of the weight division he has been campaigning at? :witzend: :-?

Great move, confident Frankie can fulfill his potential at 140lb. :TU:
I would say this is one of the problems that fighters have, Boxing and many boxers/trainers seem stuck in the dark ages. This is a man who potentially could have been making millions of pounds. At 30 he is looking for a nutritionist ffs.

You would think this is something his team and advisers would have been looking at years ago. I know when he failed the weight for the olympics that he had a nutritionist involved and the british team manager at the time said he was in danger of ruining is health, so I am not sure he can do lightwelter now as that was 10 years ago.

but still with the science available around food an nutrition you would think this is something that could have been sorted.

it's more than likely just a way of numbing the thought of being proven to be not good enough.

It is easier to say i was fighting at the wrong weight than it is to say i'm not good enough.

Brook weighed 168 on fight night ?! Surely can't be true! I wonder how long he can continue to make the weight?

i wouldn't be that surprised. +21bs from weigh-in to opening bell is at the top end of the 'added weight spectrum', but it wouldn't be unheard-of.

Unlikely but not impossible. The IBF have a mandatory 2nd weigh in on the morning/day of the fight and combatants must still be within 10lbs of their fighting weight. Brook would have had to have gained another 12lb after this weigh in.

gotcha, so he'd have to put another 10-12lbs or so on in, what? 12 hours...?

When you look at Kell Brook he does look big for a Welterweight and Eddie Hearn has said he thinks Brook could go up to Light-Middleweight or even Middleweight as Brook gets older. Which I think is probable should he clear the division out once Messers Mayweather and Pacquiao have exited stage right.

Doesn't anybody else remember Gavin posting on here that he only ate beans on toast once a day and couldn't figure out why he struggled with weight. A lot of posters was saying how ridiculous it was that his lack of basic sports nutrition knowledge and shouldn't his team actually be helping him with this?

Maybe it was exposed as a wind up and I missed it but a lot of people were taking it seriously. This is a few years back, just after he turned over from the ams... Surely SOMEBODY remembers this???
