Ask woodhouse he said I punch hard like most opponents on truth I eat two meals a day like beans an toast I need to sort ky diet I drink a lot of diet coke an water need to cut diet coke an drink more water I will come good an arnie is the best coach I have worked with ever just I need to listen I work hard really hard in gym just need to bring it to ring I will come good got too stubborn to lose lose sum1 I am better than but I need to listen to dietician I am scared to eat 5 meals a day but gonna give it ago an see but I promise I will not lose like any of u believe the better opposition the better I am

Would Gavin beat Ricky Burns at LWW?

No, Burns is a lightweight anyway.

Burns has fought his last 2 at 140 so if Gavin does drop they are very much on the same path. Anyway, can you see Gavin beating Burns, a natural 135, but the same height in a 140 scrap? I think no!

Gavin needs to change everything at this stage. Shit or bust time now or he is going to be getting a normal job like the rest of us. I'd go away for a few months, and go to a big MMA gym to try some new methods of conditioning & weight cutting. One or two very well known gyms in Birmingham capable of turning his body around that would be grateful of the high-level sparring Gavin could offer.

Serious opinion. MMA lads cut much bigger weight, and never look out of shape, and they are on his doorstep.

I think Burns would walk through Gavin, he would have too much of an engine for him but thats only my opinion. There is no doubt that Gavin is better technically but I dont think that would be enough for him to do the job.

hmmm, how legal is their weight cutting? There's always an air of suspicion when people cut so much. Are diuretics used?

Kell may have been a smw on the night but probably not at the top end of the weight maybe 162-165 which technically still makes him a SMW.

Gavin has been banking on this the better the opponent the better I perform line for a long time. The whole winning a world gold at amatwur level thing seems to have been a bit of a curse to be honest. Amazing achievement but he needs to move on from it.

I don't think diet or even training is his real issue its mental and he needs to step out of his habits if he is to fulfill his potential. He never seemed like he wanted it that bad to be honest.

LWW would be a better move for him but he really needs to step out of his comfort zone in all areas of he really wants to kick on.

It won't work as he struggles with welter!!! I don't think he change his way or lifestyle he'll get down but not sure how he will fair and if he's targeting catteril he'll come unstuck badly imo

They tried 10st for the Lepelley fight and decided to move back down after, but the money for Figueroa was too good to turn down so he had another fight there, he'll be back at lightweight for his next fight.

He's a boxer and has worked with Kerry Kayes for a lot of his career, no need to be wasting his time in MMA gyms, the only reason they cut more weight is because they're on drugs. Half of his problems aren't related to conditioning and are more to do with him not adapting his style to fighting as a professional, he's not going to be able to make those changes in an MMA gym. And while they might be grateful for the sparring he could offer, sparring with MMA fighters is another waste of his time.

Beans / pulses aren't great proteins for muscle - and sweet diet drinks in large quantities apparently trigger taste receptors to thinking the body has ingested sugar and releases insulin.

He has had a good career already and hasn't yet retired.

I can't say that I am a fan, but the man has done just fine.

It is all relative.

Under normal circumstances a Britsh and Commonwealth title is a massive achievement, however as Gavin was the country's first world amateur champion it was expected that he would achieve more.

It doesn't help that (rightly or wrongly) he doesn't give the impression that he actually "wants it" - like how say Froch really wants it and his weight issue are indicative of this.

With his natural talent and advantage of being a full time boxer who would be developed and promoted well as the home boxer he hasn't really achieved what was expected.

Cheers expe,obviously the Olympics is the holy grail for an amateur but I've always wondered about how long the worlds we're on for, just to gauge how Gavin did,great achievement, didn't he also get gold at Commonwealth games in 2006?

Gavin has had a great career really,British and Commonwealth champ and a World and European challenger but I've gotta say I've never really seen him being able to make the step into world class,I used to think it was me missing the point,when everyone was telling me about how good he was as an am but as classy as he is,there's been loads of great classy domestic fighters who were never considered a world champ in waiting because of their amateur achievements, Frankie actually reminds me a little bit of Napa in terms of standings,classy fighters but show the bare faced truth of the difference between amateur and professional boxing

beans and pulses are absolutely fine protein sources for muscles. I dont think thats the problem, it sounds more like he just doesnt eat enough of the right foods.

i thought that,Gavin didn't seem to have any muscle definition,especially around the shoulders,it looked like Brook was a middleweight next to Gavin.
