Re: Cotto vs Geale
cotto says canelo is next and didn't really give an answer to whether he would fight GGG
who is his MANDATORY defense for the WBC. that says it all. cotto is vacating that title.

Re: Cotto vs Geale
Considering he weighed in at 153.6 and a lot of people have taken themselves out of the sept Floyd fight ( Garcia,Thurman, etc)
What does everything think of Floyd swooping in and grabbing Cotto for rematch
That's biggest money fight he can make outside of Manny 2

BS Fight as expected. Catchweight. One fighter Cotto has found a good pharmacy the other guy is washed up and shot to hell. It goes to show that there are legal ways to fix a Boxing Fight.

geale was missing cotto by more than a foot and cotto was pulling from geale's punches beforeMachoTime wrote:BS Fight as expected. Catchweight. One fighter Cotto has found a good pharmacy the other guy is washed up and shot to hell. It goes to show that there are legal ways to fix a Boxing Fight.
geale was even letting them go, and cotto was pretty much landing at will. that had NOTHING
to do with draining or pharmaceuticals. it was skill. it was a career elite fighter against a legit
contender. cotto's legs were thicker and he sets his feet more and gets a lot more leverage
but he he was for the most part several steps ahead of geale and landing cleanly. i'm not
one of these that says he win over martinez was 100% due to martinez being shot, either.
cotto wasn't chasing down martinez and taking advantage of a hobbled fighter. cotto beat
martinez to the punch and was a MUCH more accurate puncher. he was stopped roided up (balco
scandal) loaded gloves (suspended for it) margarito in a fight he was doing well in but just
took too much damage for the shots he was hit with, lost to hall of famers pac and floyd,
and got outboxed by trout, a champion whose only two losses are to canelo and lara.
all this talk about cotto being a shot bum is ridiculous. cotto will give canelo a good fight
and could take another title at 154, maybe even brook's title at 147. it seems obvious he
isn't going to honor the mandatory against GGG, though.

Re: Cotto vs Geale
Cotto looked great tonight, the first left that put Geale down was sweet and the headclash before it would've KO'd some people, when Miguel gets the sniff of blood though there no getting away, he has the full offensive arsenal
I don't think he wants any part of Alvarez let alone Golovkin, Cotto will vacate and move back down,if he does defend against Saul then whatever weight advantage there is will be for Canelo

Re: Cotto vs Geale
Really disappointed with Geale. Didn't throw enough then quit when floored. That's twice he's done that now. Not enough heart for me.

The Aussie should hang up his gloves... as he's no longer competitive against ANYONE at world level!
It certainly seems that way. Going downhill fast.
Re: Cotto vs Geale
Wow great fight Geale. Even less competitive than I expected. One way traffic with a train involved.
Re: Cotto vs Geale
Congratulations to Cotto*
Re: Cotto vs Geale
You didn't have too do that. Longer post. But yeah I do agree Cotto is one of the better guys in the sport. Got the bum rap against the cheating bastard Margacheato. Still when I watch Cotto it's like I'm watching JMM. It's obvious. One fight they look like bums deep into there career then all of the sudden new found magic. Something is up..sucracristo wrote:geale was missing cotto by more than a foot and cotto was pulling from geale's punches beforeMachoTime wrote:BS Fight as expected. Catchweight. Geale makes Austin Trout look like Aaron Pryor.

People argued with me again, when I claimed (once again) that Geale was a shot fighter that Cotto would easily handle, which is precisely what we witnessed when the Aussie quit for a second time in recent memory, when he shook his head to the ref in the fourth round.
I think it's safe to say that I was right all along and Daniel Geale should no longer be competing against world-rated fighters, because his lack of durability and seemingly fragile mindset now renders him as a journeyman type opponent.
You were right. I thought Geale would give Cotto a proper fight, I was wrong.
I agree now, I don't want to see Geale fighting genuine, established world class fighters now. Any guy that quits twice is not right mentally for the fight game particularly at the highest levels.

Re: Cotto vs Geale
As much as the whole catchweight pissed me off,Cotto beat Geale because he's a better boxer than him,Miguel delivers punches better,Cotto may be blown up but he's such spiteful puncher,he'll hurt anyone s long as he backs them up ,Daniel is a formidable contender but really his bogstandard defences mean nothing when your in against a man who has another gear and will up the pace

Re: Cotto vs Geale
Geale showed plenty of heart, he was outclassed but still elected to let his hands go,it was the right move, show yourself to be a big MW and don't let Cotto establish a lead?
It never came off but better that than wait to take a beating

Yeah, I didn't understand why Geale didn't impose his size on MC, he was 180ish but refused to be a bully.handsofstone wrote:Geale showed plenty of heart, he was outclassed but still elected to let his hands go,it was the right move, show yourself to be a big MW and don't let Cotto establish a lead?

Re: Cotto vs Geale
Cotto was much sharper, I'd say that was the best I've seen cotto box and counter, always a 1/4 second ahead of geale, moved his head well, well balanced, geale never looked in it from the get go

really surprised! Inside light middleweight, rather than inside middleweight.ikorolev wrote:Don't you know that he weighed 153.6 yesterday ?Autobarn wrote:I feel he has outgrown it, that to get down to 154 takes his energy. when cotto moved up and fought Rodriguez, the spin was this is the new, stronger cotto who can do more with the extra few pounds. This, I feel, is why cotto fights catchweights between 154 & 160.Badhusker wrote:Did someone say cotto is too big for 154? I hope that was sarcasm.
Canelo is similar, facing light middleweight opponents always above the 154 limit.
In order to perform like the stars they're supposed to be, they have to drag opponents either up or down to their preferred weight, mocking the concept of weight classes and making damn sure they win.
If he didn't fight at middleweight, how can it be a middleweight fight?
Strange stuff, and his game seems to be to be a light middleweight vs a weakened middleweight.

Re: Cotto vs Geale
I am surprised and disappointed with how that went. I honestly thought geales weight , height , and stamina advantage would make a big difference. Geale was inaccurate and not busy enough. He landed some decent shots in the first and swung wildly for rest. Same as with ggg i thought he engaged far to much. I thought he would have sat out of range and jab the heck out of cotto but those wild shots he was throwing looked like he was trying to make cotto feel some power and respect it. Crap plan and credit to cotto. He looked very sharp and definitely has power up to 157.
