Cotto beats GGG
Cotto is looking scary good at MW.
Cotto beats GGG in my honest opinion.
Golovkin has fallen in love with his power and is no longer the boxer puncher he was believed to be he gets hit too much for my liking.
Cotto is looking brutal and looked better and got hit less that GGG did against Geale.

Re: Cotto beats GGG
There are two fighters that are ridiculously overrated on these boards GGG and Lomachenko.
You guys put GGG on a pedestal for beating the likes of Geale yet lil ole Miguel Cotto beats Geale in even more impressive fashion yet it got very quiet around here.
GGG is part of a hype machine is he good? Yes but not the monster ppl here and hbo make him out to be.
GGG just reached a point in his career of no return by that i mean he is straight forward puncher looking for the ko. He no longer uses his skills he gets hits often and has abandon his skills.
All of that is due to him fighting nothing but overmatched opponents. Cotto and Alvarez would beat GGG if and when they fight and will be here to tell everyone i told you so.

Re: Cotto beats GGG
Cotto boxed as well as he ever has today but GGG would crush cotto, I think GGG realises that if he takes opponents apart too easily 2 things will happen, he will have a harder time that he has already to find opponents willing to get in the ring with him, secondly, who wants to pay for a 2 round demolishion of his opponents, 345 amateur fights with 5 loses has given him a very good understanding of how to box, lomachenko is the same 400 bouts with 1 loss, they both came to the pros with extraordinary talent

Re: Cotto beats GGG
GGG is no longer using his skills its all about power for him.
If your theory was true about him carrying opponents wouldn't it make sense to box a bit to extend the fight?
Yet he doesn't cuz he can't anymore hes getting hit quite a bit lately.
It happens all the time to fighters with power they fa in love with it, at 33 yrs old it will be hard to go back to it when needed.
Canelo and Cotto will beat GGG mark my words.

Re: Cotto beats GGG
I don't think Cotto would be able to withstand the punishment I expect him to take if he fights GGG. GGG gets hit most when people stand and trade with him, but by using that approach opponents have to open up and take heavy damage themselves; Cotto has been hurt several times and GGG has far more firepower than anyone he's faced, so I'd expect GGG to break down Cotto if the latter tries to make a fight of it. GGG is also very good at cutting off the ring and driving opponents to the ropes if they don't elect to hold their ground and trade, and I don't think Cotto is capable of staying off the ropes and outboxing him on the backfoot over 12. Obviously Cotto could blend these approaches, but I still suspect that he'd endure too much punishment and eventually be broken down like he was in his two stoppage defeats.
To me it's not a big deal that Geale arguably hit Golovkin more. GGG is an offensively-minded fighter with enough power and durability to be able to take some shots to land much more damaging ones of his own, and while I'd expect Cotto to have his moments I'd be surprised if he were able to have the consistent success needed to win a decision (a stoppage for Cotto isn't a realistic option to me).
Also, repeatedly telling us something akin to 'watch it'll happen' doesn't strengthen your argument.

Golovkin is treating his opponents with contempt at the moment. Either that or he's a bully that cannot box and we all know from his pro and amateur record that that is not the case.
He needs a big opponent to bring out the best in him. As long as he hasn't developed terminal bad habits he'll look far better against a genuine operator. The fighters GGG is fighting at the moment simply don't get his respect, he knows he just walk on forward and they can't hurt him.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
Here we go. Now let's all argue about how great Cotto is because he beat a dead fish better than GGG beat the same dead fish. We learned absolutely nothing different about what a fight between Cotto/GGG might end up being like by watching that mess last night. How Geale ever grabbed 1 world title, much less 2, is beyond me. Let's face the facts. Geale is horrible. He's quit in two title fights clearly and distinctly into the camera and i expect it's the last time we see the likes of him.
Cotto hand picks the lightest hitting Middleweight out there and makes him agree to fight at a catchweight lower than the Middleweight Minimum. That's the most pathetic thing about this fight and what should be remembered the day after. Then Cotto brags after the fight that he's not a middleweight because he weighed 153.6 yesterday. THEN GIVE THE BELTS UP, MIGUEL. He's trying to make Middleweights fit into the Cotto Division now. He's such a diva that he's making his own weight class.
The middleweight belt is hallowed ground for boxing purists. Look back at all the great Middleweights and tell me one that made a challenger fight outside the weight class. He should be stripped.

Re: Cotto beats GGG
Cotto beats GGG? No. Will he have the courage to fight him at 160? I seriously doubt it. He will show he is a chickenshit once again by demanding a handicap. If I were GGG or Canelo, I would force the fight at 160 or not fight. Either guy at 160 beats Cotto.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
If cotto gets in the ring with ggg he will be curled up in a ball in the corner by round 9.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
As overrated GGG is, he still beats Cotto easily at MW given the size and strength difference.

What about at 157?sendo wrote:As overrated GGG is, he still beats Cotto easily at MW given the size and strength difference.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
Yes it's true that GGG carried Monroe but then again, I don't believe that Golovkin would risk trying to carry a puncher like Froch because that's like playing with fire (sooner or later you will get burned). That being said, Cotto isn't big enough to impose his will moving forward on GGG and playing the counterpuncher will not work against Golovkin because he's the type of fighter that comes forward that you have to get your respect from otherwise he'll cut off the ring and make you fight him.
Cotto cannot operate as a counterpuncher for an entire fight and win, he has to come forward. Last night Roach saw the same thing I just stated which is why he was urging Miguel to go on the attack, whenever Cotto backed up Geale had some small level of success but he never had that same success when Miguel came forward.
GGG will not allow a 153lb fighter to push him backwards, it just won't happen and therefore Cotto will lose, I like both guys but Miguel can't impose his will on Golovkin like he bullied Geale last night.

I wish I could. Cotto doesn't have balls to face GGG at 160.kidbazooka1 wrote:HahahaaIan1973 wrote:No

Re: Cotto beats GGG
Golovkin will have no problems comfortably making 157 if he has at least 3 months. Geale has been demoralized since losing to Golovkin (or maybe even to Barker), which is why he had problems making 157.Tanzio wrote:What about at 157?sendo wrote:As overrated GGG is, he still beats Cotto easily at MW given the size and strength difference.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
I agree with the OP.
I think a truly skilled elite guy with power is Gennady's Kryptonite.
A guy who can box his ears off for half the fight, then lower the boom late.
That is why I favor Cotto, Froch, or Ward over Triple G.
Be nice to see tho whatever the outcome.

GGG would beat Cotto.
However, I am starting to see a little Nonito Donaire in GGG. I hope that GGG will box for real when he gets an opportunity against a big time fighter. If not, he may get himself outboxed looking for the KO.

Donaire's amateur record was 68–8 with 5 TKOs. That says it all compared to 350-5 with achievements on the highest level for GGG. One fighter has skills just above B+, the other one has A+ skills.
Re: Cotto beats GGG
As I said in another thread, I think he (Cotto) would have his moments, but would get stopped late.
Nuance is always a rare commodity on boxrec. Cotto is a great fighter, but being a great fighter and losing to GGG aren't mutually exclusive.

Will he be slapping GGG with his resume ? That would work if he orders resume made of iron.verballistic wrote:Beg to differ, although you do make good points. IMO Cotto's main advantage is that his overall resume is much stronger than GGG's, so he has a huge edge in experience vs world-class fighters.
Gennady's skill level is no worse than Miguel's. So, the fight would be a competition between Golovkin's superior power and Cotto's speed. I wouldn't be shocked if Cotto won a few rounds at the beginning of the fight, but then accumulation of Gennady's punches would have its effect and even if Cotto manages to last the distance (which I find unlikely), he would still lose.
It is a pity that the fight will never happen.

Re: Cotto beats GGG
cotto spent the vast majority of that fight outboxing geale, the taller guy, on the outside.KBB wrote:Cotto cannot operate as a counterpuncher for an entire fight and win, he has to come forward. the punches landed by cotto on the inside were during trades when cotto was technically
better and knew geale drops his right and was ready for the openings. cotto didn't beat
geale pushing him back. that's not how that fight went at all.
cotto isn't going to fight GGG. not coming forward or on the move or swinging from a chandelier like tarzan.
cotto is not going to be in a ring with GGG, who cotto agreed would be his mandatory in order to be allowed
the geale defense one year after winning his title. the wbc is not letting him out of that mandatory and he isn't
fighting GGG. cotto is fighting canelo next. he said so after the fight. GGG will unify those WBA/WBC titles by
september and then go for the others.
