fight of the year for 1958?

Post by sockdolager »

1958-12-10 173¾ Yvon Durelle 172 81-20-2
Forum, Montreal, QC, Canada W KO 11 15

just a quick question....In the book about Archie Moore "The Ageless Warrior" it describes this fight as the ring Magazine Fight of the Year for 1958. However on the records in boxrec it does not list this fight as being so. Does anyone know anything about it, and also does anyone know where I can get this fight to watch?

Sockdollanger, I have an old Ring Record Book that lists The fight of the year for 1958 as the March 25 Robinson - Basilio fight in Chicago. As for the Durelle Moore fight , I recently watched it on espn classic. An all time great fight in my opinion.

I sometimes do not understand about the Ring when they say that Moore-Durelle I was the best fight of the decade of the 1950s, but this fight was not even selected as the best fight of 1958. Basilio-Robinson II was selected as the best fight of that year.

The other contradiction of The Ring is when they picked 1982's Pryor-Arguello I as the best fight of the 1980s, but that fight was not even selected by them as the best fight of 1982...It was Chacon-Limon IV.

Which one should I believe???
