Random Thoughts From Yesterday

Post by koolkc107 »

Robert Guerrero deserved the decision he got (I had him winning close, 96-93), but he needs to prove he is still elite his next fight. A few rounds versus Thurman is the only clue in his last 46 rounds that he is anything more than B level. We need to see something next outing or we can stop looking at him as a top guy.

Props to Aron Martinez. Hopes he parlays yesterday into a good payday. He seems like a good guy and I noticed he doesn't sound too bad behind a microphone. Maybe PBC can give him a job broadcasting. He would be an upgrade over some of the clowns they have running around with microphones now. And no, I am not talking about Jacobs, who is very solid and will definitely be a part of someone's fight coverage after he is done boxing.

It was nice to see El Perro get a win. But frankly, it was against a nobody he should have stopped a round or two earlier. I see his people working- bring him back slowly but surely against weak competition. But, this is only effective if you increase the level of competition. I know they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but this one is badly in need of some. Angulo needs to be convinced he needs better defense and someone must get him to bend his knees, bob and weave a little more.

Memo to Vic Darchinyan: RETIRE!!!! NOW!!!!

Memo to Dominic Brazeale: So far so good. But you get hit too easy to be a threat to anyone on the next level. And your height wont be a defense against the Tyson Furys, Deontay Wilders, and Wlad Klitschos of the world. Hell, even old ass Tony the Tiger's wife is rubbing her sore hip at the prospect of you fighting her husband. Fix that.

Yeah, I know he took a round longer than Golovkin did, but I found Cotto's victory over Gaele even more impressive than GGG's. Miguel boxed Daniel much more effectively than Gennady did. And before someone mentions the catchweight (which is a legit gripe not doubt), let me remind you that Cotto weighed in BELOW THE JR MIDDLEWEIGHT LIMIT (more on reasons why he might have done that later). With HBO reporting that Gaele weighed over 180 (in street clothes) on fight night, any talk of a weight advantage or weight games has to be tempered by the obvious- Daniel was the MUCH BIGGER guy in the ring last night. Miguel boxed on an elite level. Rather than the somewhat clumsy way Golovkin took Geale out, Cotto was almost surgical in his approach. He worked downstairs early with vicious hooks designed to do exactly what they did: make the hands come down and open up the guard for hooks up top. He broke Geale down with much more science than Golovkin did and I hope folks didn't miss that part.

IMO, Cotto beats Canelo and GGG if they fight this year. Just too much skill to go with a resurgence in power.

But, the above may be moot anyway. I think Cotto is angling for the biggest money fight he can get.

A rematch with Mayweather.

Why else do you weigh in at 153.6? Why else do you go out of your way post-fight to emphasize that you are NOT a middleweight?

Don't be shocked if you start to hear the Cotto camp whisper about Floyd.

Makes too much sense for two big reasons.

One, it is the most lucrative fight out there. Two, it is leverage in any negotiation with Alvarez if indeed that is the fight they are really aiming at.

Thoughts?

I thought that before Cotto signed wit Roc.

Unless Haymon is willing to work with Roc, then Cotto lost his biggest bargaining chip.

Haymon has already shown he will work with folks he doesn't like to make a big money fight that his fighter wants.

If Floyd thinks he can beat Cotto again (something that is no slam dunk) then the fight will be made if Mayweather is looking for the biggest payday he can find.

Pretty spot on koolkc.

Cotto looked better than ive ever seen him against a guy who looked huge in the ring against him.

Cotto won on pure skill setting everything up beautifully last night and seems to be on a marco Antonio Barrera resurgence.

Cotto beats Canelo and GGG.

Besides being demoralized, the guy was also exhausted by the weight drain and slow as hell.

Haha here we go.

Cotto beat Geale by pure skill and ring smarts weigh had nothing to do with the outcome.

Only Geale supporters will look to that as an excuse.

May takeaway is that Canelo-Cotto getting the big fight and GGG gets frozen out of the chance of proving he;s the best middleweight no doubt Canelo will not fight GGG when he beats Cotto. I also don't understand why we couldn't get an undercard fight. To me it just to be waste to have one card telecast.

It doesn't matter how big a guy is if he can't punch. Roy Jones Jr. said the same thing on fight night. Geale could have been 220lbs fight night, he still punches like my lady. Safe fights for the most overrated boxer in history and you are all biting the bait and getting pulled into the boat. Soon to be stuffed and put on a wall. I love how people look at a fish like Geale who has now quit in the ring for two bouts and determine who's better by who knocked him out better. You can't tell anything by that and it's silly to even refer to it. A KO is a KO.

You will all see how overrated Cotto is once he gets in the ring with GGG or even Canelo. Everyone thinks Cotto is this completely changed boxer and Roach is a genius. Same Cotto and same Roach. Their last 3 fights have been against garbage and yes, I call Sergio garbage because he had no business being the ring that night as he was not healthy. You will all see.

Cotto, a HOF'er? PLEASE. His biggest win was against a guy with no knees. He lost every other big fight he's been in save an off the juice Shane Mosely. Cotto doesn't have the balls to sign the papers for a fight against GGG. That will never happen. This is a manufactured job that includes mandatory payoffs, bad knees, catch weights and a Diva. I can't wait to see Cotto counted out in there when he finally faces someone legitimate without a pronounced advantage of some kind. JOKE

I'm sure HBO had to overpay big time for the cotto fight so the last thing they wanted to do was add an undercard fight that would cost $$ and realistically not attract any additional viewers.

I think it's silly to ignore the fact Geale actually stood his ground and fought Cotto. He literally ran from Golovkin, and the moment he opened up he was crushed. And GGG still finished him quicker... people see what they want to see. These last 3 comprised or sub standard opponents are not the toughest to look good against.

He has a decent shot against Canelo. Against Golovkin, his chances are pretty slim. Bodywork is the only chance he has got.

If they stop over paying for fights maybe we wont have one sided beatings
