how much step aside money will cotto have to
pay GGG to fight canelo before GGG ?
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
He will just drop the title unless he gets an offer from Floyd. Canelo doesn't care about titles.
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cotto drops the belt and GGG fights the WBC #1 Heiland for the vacant title. Even without the WBC title the Cotto-Canelo winner can cling to lineal champion status, which of course allows unlimited evasion as it comes free of obligations like facing mandatories and ranked contenders.
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
Without a winner facing GGG, that "title" will also be free of any meaning.crusader wrote:I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cotto drops the belt and GGG fights the WBC #1 Heiland for the vacant title. The WBC will bow down and allow an extension without having to pay a dime.
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
I hope so, but I expect people to still harp on about how the winner is THE man/champion/#1 of the division, even the bout is fought at a 155 catchweight.ikorolev wrote:Without a winner facing GGG, that "title" will also be free of any meaning.crusader wrote:I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cotto drops the belt and GGG fights the WBC #1 Heiland for the vacant title. People attack ABC titles all the time, which actually have obligations for their belt holders to fulfill, yet many of these people have no problems treating someone as the division's top fighter simply because the hold a specific title, not because they face the top opposition at the weight and don't evade the best challengers as Cotto has been doing. People should stop treating titles with such importance and instead focus more on whether someone is beating top opposition while being open to facing the best.

Pretty sure they already have...as long as the winner agrees to fight ggg. They should make them both sign to make a penalty, but won't. I doubt if either will fight ggg.

People been talking for ages Cotto has to fight GGG. He doesn't have to fight him neither will Canelo

What does a green belt offer Cotto that is worth a million? I dont see it adding that much commercial value to Cotto Canelo fight. And prestige wise he can only hold on to it for few more months, before he is forced to face GGG. Not worth a million. He will vacate.fergusg wrote:Dan Rafael (ESPN) believes that the details of the Canelo-Cotto bout has already been agreed, with just the venue and date to be confirmed. He also believes that they have offered Team Golovkin a seven-digit figure to step aside.

That is nothing more than speculation. No proof and nothing more than a guess

Would such a highly respected boxing writer and veritable authority make an unfounded claim. No, he must have had a solid evidence, such that mere mortals like you and I are not privileged to have.tiny_acres wrote:The key words are HE BELIEVES.Tarkus wrote:What does a green belt offer Cotto that is worth a million? If he had proof he would of named the source or at least said AN UNNAMED SOURCE.
No he intentionally wrote he believes.

Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
Your opinion about the belts is well known and entirely besides the point. My question is what its worth to Cotto. Because I dont see its worth for HIM. As for Canelo he would be in exactly same position. That is that after he beats Cotto he will have to vacate or fight GGG. Once again not worth a million.fergusg wrote: I’m not a fan of any of the rancid big four governing bodies, but I suspect the green belt (rather than the mythical lineal title) is actually worth more to Canelo than it does for Cotto.
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
Canelo doesn't care about belts. Lately, he fights at 155 with no belt on the line, and his fights do very well financially.

Throw in the fact that people will believe GGG is next for the winner which is a false thought imo. That will bring some fans as well.fergusg wrote:Neither Canelo nor Cotto have been involved in PPV super-fights attracting far more than 350K buys without them facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao.ikorolev wrote:Canelo doesn't care about belts. In order to optimise the revenue being generated by the Canelo-Cotto bout, HBO, Golden Boy & Roc Nation are going to want every edge that they can possibly have, which includes the WBC title (assuming that Golovkin doesn’t price himself out when negotiating the step aside money).
Therefore, I feel that both Canelo & Cotto would care about world titles, if it helps line their pockets with cash!
The bottom line: the WBC world middleweight title will almost certainly attract PPV buys from casual fight fans, but its true monetary value is open for debate.
Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
The belt is more important to GGG than fighting the winner according to his trainer. He knows neither guy wants to fight him at middle, and Cotto is too much of a diva to pay $ to duck him.
Look for Cotto vs Canelo in the fall after Cotto vacated the belt. Neither will fight GGG. They may call him out after he moves to 168 to fight at 155.

Re: how much step aside money will cotto have to
In interviews on Saturday, Loefler was saying that there is no agreement yet for Gennady to step aside, so maybe Cotto and Canelo agreed on something, but it hasn't been communicated to GGG team.

One thing for sure is that Cotto vs Canelo will sell big. Either one vs GGG sells about half that. Maybe WBC will pay the step aside?
Mexicn vs Puerto Rican is a big fight. This all might crash down if Floyd decides to rematch either guy. Personally don't need to see a rerun of either fight.

Since both fighters average 350,000 ppv's.How many ppv's do you or anyone really expect from this fight?Badhusker wrote:One thing for sure is that Cotto vs Canelo will sell big. Either one vs GGG sells about half that. Maybe WBC will pay the step aside?

I would laugh out loud if Mayweather has Cotto drain down to 150 to fight for the MW titleBadhusker wrote:One thing for sure is that Cotto vs Canelo will sell big. Either one vs GGG sells about half that. Maybe WBC will pay the step aside?
