undisputed champion
undisputed champion
Hello, is in pro boxing some undisputed champion? Or ...who you think is close to achieve that ?
Re: undisputed champion
I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. I don't know and don't care if they are "officially" undisputed (Mayweather probably is at WW), but 80+% of experts agree that they are "the men" at their weight classes.

Pretty accurate.ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. I don't know and don't care if they are "officially" undisputed (Mayweather probably is at WW), but 80+% of experts agree that they are "the men" at their weight classes.
Re: undisputed champion
I have a bit of a concern with Golovkin, in that there are other top contenders, and a guy who holds the lineal title, for what that's worth.ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. I do think Golovkin is the best in his division, and I don't have all that much trouble with calling him a champion. But I find it hard to call him undisputed when there are these other top guys he hasn't faced. That may well be down to him being avoided, but still, it's there.
I would agree with the others you mentioned without really hesitating.
Re: undisputed champion
There is NO undisputed guy.
Closest we have seen in recent memory is Ward after the Super Six.
As long as there is another beltholder out there that has not been faced and beaten, no title is undisputed.
Undisputed means ALL belts or victories over everyone who holds a belt and/or is a serious threat to hold one.
Even Floyd, who may have a claim in two weight classes, has Brook at 147 and Andrade at 154 who would say different and DISPUTE Floyd's claims.

Ward didn't have all the belts after the super six though.koolkc107 wrote:There is NO undisputed guy.

And his subsequent disappearance from the face of the earth cost him what undisputed status he did have, in my book.Bobbyptsd wrote:Ward didn't have all the belts after the super six though.koolkc107 wrote:There is NO undisputed guy.

Your kidding right?ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. I don't know and don't care if they are "officially" undisputed (Mayweather probably is at WW), but 80+% of experts agree that they are "the men" at their weight classes.
How in the world is GGG undisputed champ?
Re: undisputed champion
As I said, I don't care if some of these guys are not officially undisputed. What I meant is that the vast majority of experts and sane boxing fans consider them to be "the men" in their divisions.kidbazooka1 wrote:Your kidding right?ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. Golovkin is the man due to his performance in the ring and the fact that the other MW champions including the "lineal champion" Cotto have been ducking him for years.
Re: undisputed champion
Why Ward?ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. I don't know and don't care if they are "officially" undisputed (Mayweather probably is at WW), but 80+% of experts agree that they are "the men" at their weight classes.
Re: undisputed champion
Wlad was pretty much undisputed. After Vitali retired, there were basically no other beltholders at heavyweight. There was no WBA ordinary champion, no WBC champion, it was just Wlad with 4 belts to himself.
Re: undisputed champion
Because he is by far better than anybody else in that shallow division.macaca wrote:Why Ward?ikorolev wrote:I would say Wlad, Ward, Golovkin, Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Roman. All the hbo hype aside Cotto is closer to being the undisputed champ than GGG.
If were basing "ducking" as a criteria for being the undisputed champ well then Paul Williams and keith thurman are all undisputed champs then.
Cmon now brother you know Better than that.

Re: undisputed champion
Only guy to unify all 4 titles is Hopkins who lost them to Taylor, who then relinquished 1 or 2 of them
Re: undisputed champion
Yes, I knew that most of them were not formally undisputed, but I still listed boxers universally considered to be the men in their divisions. With current situation in boxing where many "champions" avoid fighting the best, the only chance to become an undisputed champion is being a huge draw. Mayweather and Wlad could become ones, but the rest of the men I listed even though being by far the best in their divisions, stand no chance to become undisputed, because other champions will duck them.

Re: undisputed champion
Being the 'best' and the 'undisputed' in the division are different things.ikorolev wrote:Yes, I knew that most of them were not formally undisputed, but I still listed boxers universally considered to be the men in their divisions.
Re: undisputed champion
I think that's the problematic nuance here, as I mentioned about Golovkin. If we were simply talking about ''best'', I think we'd agree more easily. But ''undisputed'' is more complicated. What belts matter? Who has real challengers and who doesn't?Buonaparte wrote:Being the 'best' and the 'undisputed' in the division are different things.ikorolev wrote:Yes, I knew that most of them were not formally undisputed, but I still listed boxers universally considered to be the men in their divisions.
For my money, Inoue, Golovkin and Lomachenko are clearly the best in their respective divisions. That doesn't make them undisputed though of course. They are two different concepts.
Re: undisputed champion
Recognizing an undisputed champ when there are none is like fantasy PFP lists. Opinions based on styles, hatred, love, and other preferences. It's debatable, but at the same time after seeing some of the posts, a waste of time.
Some here think being the lineal champ means so much more, which is actually funny to me.

Re: undisputed champion
I think that Kovalev is closer than anyone to being the undisputed champion. It's also his goal to capture all of the belts and with a showdown between he and Adonis next up after his fight next month, we should finally have an undisputed champion of a division within a year or so. Kovalev knocks Adonis out in 6 rounds. Easy work. Not only is Kovalev clearly the better boxer, Adonis will be 40 years old when he finally get's the stones to climb in the ring with him.
Re: undisputed champion
Kovalev is close, but he has a soft chin, so one good left hand from Stevenson can turn things around. I would say Kovalev's chances to beat Stevenson are at 70% now. Of course, they are constantly improving, because Stevenson is getting older.caldo2025 wrote:I think that Kovalev is closer than anyone to being the undisputed champion.
