Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
Can't believe he's ranked so highly. We still have no idea if he can take a punch, has the stamina to go 12 rounds or what happens if he faces someone who can take his punches. Surely Eddie won't rush him into a world title fight?
Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
That is odd, usually the WBC looks at performances and ranks fighters according to abili......
.....Nah, I can't even finish that.

Doesnt matter about takin a punch heavyweights punch hard and if caught clean most will b stunned or taken out anyway look at wlad everytime he gets hit he looks stunnedchad wrote:Can't believe he's ranked so highly. Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
Question you should be asking is how did Joshua become 2nd without fighting anyone in top 15. That is in the nutshell the problem with HW division, contenders don't fight each other.

He must be above Fury then?
So the win over Johnson puts him higher than - Fury, Stiverne, Jennings(I think he was all ready above Jennings after 12 fights)? I don't think Pulev is in the top 15 with the WBC.
Strange rankings, built on hype more than actual content.

Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
I assume he's that high because the fight with Johnson was for the WBC "International" title. Not sure what the criteria for a fight being sanctioned for that title is.
edit: my mistake the fight with Baktov was for the WBC International Title, all very confusing

Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
Pulev and Fury were dropped out of the WBC rankings because they fought in eliminators for the IBF and WBO, respectively.ScottDetonator wrote:He must be above Fury then?

Yet Jennings is still ranked, despite recently challenging for those same titles.
I'd say they are making it up as they go along.
They also made Wilder vs Scott a final eliminator, despite Scott being ranked 20-something at the time

They best start moving Joshua up a level or two and fast then because potentially he could be in line for a crack at the WBC this time next year! The rankings are farcical though in all honesty!

Actually now you say that it could be an interesting fight. Povetkin isn't the most dynamic fighter so if AJ boxed well it would be a good test of his ability. Make it happy Eddie, dbf wrote:Povetkin V Joshua in September please
Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
Joshua being at No. 2 with the WBC is no worse than Browne being No. 3 with the WBA (with No. 1 vacant), Charles Martin being No. 2 with the WBO & No. 5 with the IBF (No. 2 vacant) or Andy Ruiz Jr being No. 3 with the WBO.
Joshua is now generally considered to be a top 15 world ranked heavyweight, so him having high rankings with the big four organizations is not surprising.

Re: Anthony Joshua ranked number 2 by WBC
On the one hand Eddie will be pleased that he obviously doesn't have to work very hard to get his man a title shot, but he probably knew that anyway, and on the other hand, he won't be too pleased to see him that high up the rankings, which is just ridiculous.
It's just a sign of the greedy, grasping boxing organisations desperate for what they see as a box office fighter, to be associated with their belt, and all the money it might bring in.

It's bad news when this guy is calling for the WBC to be investigated over this

Wilder will have to pick his opponents carefully to stay champ, maybe this is a good time to take on Joshua
