Some people have some weird ideas about boxing.JayHilton wrote:Without a doubt it has to be Eddie Hearn. Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
They pay him a licence fee to provide boxing content so yes they do pay him millions, obviously he has to pay the boxers and the show costs and he makes revenue from ticket sales and sponsorship but without the backing of sky he could and would not promote.Parson Cross wrote:Sky don't pay Eddie Hearn millions.
I for one would love his job.

Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
Sky - an average of £150k per show.
However let's get this right. That is GROSS and not paid to Eddie Hearn - payable to Matchroom.
You asked how much Eddie earned.
No idea - ask his daddy he's on his payroll.

You have forgotten the PPV's which is a massive massive percentage of the revenue in fact when I worked for Panix Promotions the Lennox Lewis fights funded everything.Parson Cross wrote:Sky - an average of £150k per show.

I asked you for your opinion on what money Eddie Hearn has earned in the past 12 months and you have avoided the question, come on tell me what you think he has earned from boxing.
Also do you think he would promote without the financial backing of Sky????
Lets just all be truthful young Eddie has a great job (original post) and he earns bloody good money. I have spoken to a few people in boxing about this post today and they are all in agreement that Eddie is getting plenty of £££££££ and I think he deserves the money he earns as he obviously generates it.
He has taken boxing back from the leisure centres to the big venues and stadiums and has been very good for boxing just wish I was as rich and good looking as him

Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
You have avoided my comment as well. Sky DONT pay Eddie they pay Matchroom. I'm sure daddy pays him well.
I'm not stupid I know that the PPV's are negotiated separately.
I'm assuming you're an Accountant.
Dealing with the non PPV events what is the average NET profit per show ?
Are you aware of any shows that have made a loss ?
On the PPV events how much of the payment made to the Promoter is absorbed by the purses for the fighters ?

You originally disagreed with mine (and another posters comments) that Sky TV pay Eddie Hearn millions and that they in fact pay Matchroom (which may well be the case) but Eddie Hearns name appears on both written and verbal credits for the Sky TV shows so he is the promoter and the MC announces 'Eddie Hearn' as the promoter.
In answer to your informative and brilliant questions I am aware that some shows will lose money but much like a bookmaker over a period of time a TV promoter will come out on top and re PPV shows the promoter will often do a percentage agreed show split with the main attraction boxer so each PPV event must be judged on its own merit and some boxers just agree a flat purse.
Would you agree that in the last 12 months that Sky TV have paid Eddie Hearn or Matchroom more than one million in rights fees?.
Also when a UK boxer fights abroad for a world title the promoter retains the UK TV rights which would be adding to the pot of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.
This is becoming a 2 man debate and everyone else seems to have lost interest and unlike the result of a boxing match we are never going to get an answer.
I understand that some fans think that all promoters are fat cats who earn 'millions' and live lavish life styles and I definitely know that is not the case but young Eddie and Matchroom have had a brilliant run over the past 12-18 months and he or Matchroom have earned well.
Are you in agreement that Sky have paid Matchroom more than a million in rights fees over the past 12-18 months even if Eddie just makes the tea at least then we can both reach some closure and move forwards.
Alternatively if I can agree to "Matchroom" and you to "millions", that way we can both walk away thinking we have won this debate with our egos in tact, not that anyone is watching.

Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
How many regular Match room shows have sky put on a year?
Going back a while when Sky TV used different promoters and it was a more open market Sky paid £110k per show and I know sometimes depending on the purse of the main fight there was very little left on some occasions to be "Divvyied" up. I can only assume this figure will have decreased slightly per show as Sky have given it all too Matchroom. I'm not sure how matchroom would be paid these days. Would they have a budget for 12 months or get a flat rate of "x" ammount per show, or request more if they have a "big show".

Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
Dapug,
When you do the invoices to Sky are they Eddie Hearn or Matchroom ?
That will clear up who gets paid by Sky.
You've been doing it for more than 20 years so an easy question.
There is no doubt that Sky pays in excess of a million for TV rights to show boxing - that's a given.
However that is gross not in the Promoter's profit column.
If Barry wants to pay Eddie millions good luck to him but going back to the original point in all of this - no Sky don't pay Eddie millions.
What does Eddie earn ? Absolutely no idea.
What I do know is that he is a lucky lucky man.
He's inherited from Barry a platform that Stevie Wonder in a long range shooting competition couldn't lose.
All this Eddie Hearn is the saviour bullshit, any major Promoter in the UK had they been handed exclusivity on the Sky platform could have done the same job that Eddie has.
I do not agree with monopolies in any form of life. Competition is healthy.
Eddie has put some great shows on - and some dross.
As for the PPV fiasco don't get me going.

Re: Who has the best job in British boxing?
Invoiced for Frank Maloney and Mickey Duff so have never invoiced for Eddie Hearn or matchroom but assumed his deal would definitely have been better than Franks was with Sky and obviously Duff was 20 years ago so no comparison.Parson Cross wrote:Dapug,

Your last paragraph made me smile as during our debate I actually made the wrong assumption that you were defending Eddie Hearn as a man who was not earning as much as some posters assumed and he was some kind of a 'mate' to his boxers so I apologise for that.
I am in agreement with your points on a monopoly and I have always been of the opinion that if Sky wanted to do the job properly they could employ a good team of 'salaried' event managers (including marketing and PR) and just put the shows on themselves and pay the fighters (through their managers) direct. I am sure the board would grant them a promoters licence. Or is Eddie Hearn or Matchroom already filling this role, maybe they are??
Obviously you would still have your small hall promoters who would develop fighters until Sky see fit to sign them.
Another idea would be for Sky to write to all UK licensed promoters with a date and ask them all to submit a fight card they could provide and then choose the most attractive card or better still let the sky subscribers vote for what show they want to see
Anyway its all food for thought and with the new 5 year exclusive deal that Matchroom have we need Al Haymon to buy up airtime on spike (UK) and screen his US shows as well as trying to develop UK talent to run along these shows like the old days when Naz was the UK arm of a Tyson fight.
Been great debating and lets hope some of my fistic fantasies come true some time soon.

Things have moved on significantly since the Duff / Maloney years.
I thought from your previous posts you were "up to date" with this invoicing thing.
Always dangerous to make assumptions.
