I'm amazed it took Dan Rafael a WEEK to report this after Asianboxing got a hold of the story almost from the off.

I have never understood how the #1 contender spot is vacant.Just bump up number 2.Tony1244 wrote:Another thing that is patently ridiculous is when the #1 Ranking is VACANT.
Why don't they just be honest and write "OPEN FOR BRIBE"
It makes no sense to me

Having #1 or even #2 Vacant makes no sense other than being an obvious bribe inquiry. It's completely impossible for it to be anything else.

Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
From what I understand the IBF leave their #1 and #2 open UNTIL a fighter in the 3-5 ranking beats another in the same sort of frame (I.e an eliminator between #3 and #5).
Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
Yeah, we wouldn't want to have champions who aren't clearly the best in the world.Boxing Prospect wrote:From what I understand the IBF leave their #1 and #2 open UNTIL a fighter in the 3-5 ranking beats another in the same sort of frame (I.e an eliminator between #3 and #5).
I can't wait for that Ik Yang-Cesar Rene Cuenca match up. Finally a real 140lb champion will be crowned.
Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
These organisations don't even follow the sport... HUGE disrespect to the fighters who risk their lives in there... Take the time to read many other examples here by Ken Pollitt, a reference when it comes to boxing politics, rankings and everything outside of the ring:

Ken also is a ranking member of the TBRB

Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
Whilst I can understand an organisation ranking a dead boxer, time and no one reporting it, these things will happen. Sometimes fighters pass away and its months before someone notices it.
The IWBR rank boxers independently on merit; The WBA are much worse than any of the organisations when it comes to allowing fighters into their rankings or fighting for titles on merit
The WBA interim champion at Super-feather Emannuel Lopez is currently ranked 112.
Hugo Ruiz won the title and defended it three times without ever facing a top 50 opponent.
On another note I hope it was all a joke and Ali Raymi is still alive.

RIP Ali. I'll miss your banter.
I really was looking forward to him fighting a real guy at some point.

#1 can be empty when an eliminator bout is scheduled
Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
It was Raymi who died? Ok, I was more than a little late on that one, admittedly.

It IS NOT that big of a deal. The -thing- w/WBA is that it's ESTABLISHED entity. Those "idiocentricies" (how you spell that?) shouldn't subtract from the overall REAL PROBLEMS of BOXING in modern. The "IBO" is CERTAINLY the one-true-CANCER of Boxing & I WILL win any argument/every argument there.
Why does the General media totally ignore the Sport? Because it's seemingly OUT OF CONTROL as far at ADDING GOVERNING ORGANIZATIONS.
I'm gonna endorse the FIRST MAJOR FOUR & draw the LINE - there. John Wilkinson /UWBCAFO-I/Est March 2007. Cell 860-515-7680 boxer age 59 (next month) on comeback -Welter/Jr. middle.

Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
Imran explain why the IBO is the true cancer of boxing. I know a lot of the IBO people and they think their organisation is for the betterment of boxing. I also worked for them for 15 years and all I tried to do was make it better. The IBO aimed to eliminate as much corruption from the sport as possible, there was never any conversation at any stage about doing anything that was not fair. Please explain.

if its the ali raymi on youtube its shocking he was even world ranked!!!
Re: WBA ranks a dead boxer as 11th in the world
I am still not convinced "Ali Raymi" was ever alive. Which may be in poor taste, but I can't find any non boxing source that reports his death.

So you can find out if somebody is dead or not by checking for them on a website called dead-people.com?
What an age we live in.

This doesn't really surprise me at all. The WBA needs to step aside now, it is an absolute joke. So many titles.
There will probably be a WBA belt for 'Best Boxrec Blogger' at some point in the next few years.

The first is not a non-boxing source and the second is just a lot of tweets.
I have no doubt that Ali Raymi has been reported dead to boxing organisations. But I can't find any non boxing news source about the bombing that says "Among the dead was boxer Ali Raymi", or anything similar.
If Ali Raymi really was someone's idea of a joke that got out of hand, as has been proposed previously, this could just be a rather bad taste way of calling a halt to it. Just saying.
