Deontay Wilder vs Eric Molina!

Post by Tuan_Jim »

It's telling that the WBC heavyweight title was defended last night and no one here cares enough to discuss it.

Eric Molina, a frail, balding journeyman sporting a jiggly paunch dragged Deontay Wilder into the 9th round, buzzing him at one point. As a spectacle, it was one of the most appalling heavyweight title fights of all time, in absolutely the worst era of all time. Wilder is a clumsy novice with a zipping right hand and nothing else.

In his ascent to the WBC title the heavyweight division has descended to the deepest craggy black pit of the nadir.

And next we have Tyson Fury, little more than a giant novelty, boxing Wlad K, a 40 year old man who if he can't fence you will simply squeeze you to death.

Can we please keep Anthony Joshua active so that he can hurry up and clean this horrible mess?

The modern age of boxing appalls you, Jim?

If only you'd mentioned that before.

Ha'way Jim man, there's been shit heavyweight title match ups since John L Sullivan. You make it sound like it's something new. For every Bowe - Holyfield, there was a Bowe-Ferguson and a Bowe-Dokes.

When the man is fat, old and brings a history of chin problems, it adds to the generally negative impression.

It's telling that people would rather discuss my account of the boxers than the fight itself - for the prestigious WBC heavyweight championship of the world!

The crucial difference is that Bowe massacred those men - Wilder had to grope and flail his way to a victory over Eric Molina.

You remind me of my dad watching history documentaries Jim. He fvcking hates them, only watches them so he can get angry about their license with the facts, overgeneralizations and outright lies. He watches them and fumes, then next time he sees me he rants about their shortcomings. None of them are a patch on The World At War, he'll say. They should have just stopped making history docs right there.

Worst performance I've seen from Wilder,he was too tense and his accuracy was off for the most part, his shots were scuffing but his powers so great they were still wilting Molina,Deontay got the KO but theres more negatives than positives especially as Eric's been done twice in a round,I give Molina massive credit for givingit a go but he maybe let Wilder off the hook in that 3rd round, brave performance though from Molina

Pedraza-Klimov wasn't competitive enough to be a great fight, that was the first time I'd seen Pedraza and he's a classy operator but I would have like to have seen him get Klimov outta there after the 7th,easier said than done but I'm sure if Jose just pured it on the ref wouldn't have waited long to step in

So he could get angry about it and say it wasn't worth watching or discussing

Then remark pointedly on the fact that none of us want to discuss it.

Wilder was expected to dispatch Molina early but it just didn't happen. Molina looked like an overweight bloke who had spent too much time in McDonalds and certainly not a challenger for the WBC HW title. His record says he can punch and he can, he caught Wilder and wobbled him in the first round. He can also take a punch, Wilder had him down four times. Wilders performance was not good though he made a lot of mistakes, and now even David Price fancies his chances against him. To be fair to Wilder, Molina was a difficult opponent with a big punch, and Wilder showed caution from the first bell. Molina covered up and did nothing for most of the fight but when he did burst into action he was very dangerous. TBH I thought Wilder was too cautious but Molina wasn't there for the payday, he was there to win and cause the upset. Maybe Wilder, fought the right fight, and maybe its good that other HW fighters think they can beat him. I am certain he would beat Price, and pretty sure he would win against Fury, but Povotkin is another matter. Joshua looks the business but he has yet got to fight someone near the top of the division.

Pevetkin is the real deal,i like him a lot and think he would be too tough and hard hitting for Wilder.

It was telling that Deontay was so terrified of getting his china chin tapped, that he was too wary of stepping in and demolishing the over weight Mexican - which he should have, and could have done, inside around.
He was so ultra cautious, I think the rumours about him getting knocked out in sparring might have been true, because after the best win of his career, in this fight he looked like his confidence had gone. Very strange.

Good point. Wilder's matchstick legs don't look good on a heavyweight.

Why did you watch the fight Jim?
To see whether the heavyweight division could really be as bad as I thought it was.

It was worse!

People can groan about my pessimism if they wish - simply watch Wilder vs Molina and remember this is for the belt contested in Bowe/Holyfield, Tyson/Spinks, Holmes/Norton, Ali/Frazier III and Frazier/Ali.
