Eddie Hearn claims that James DeGale is likely to face Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler or Bernard Hopkins for his next fight that is scheduled to take place on the 12th September.

This leads me to beg a rather intriguing question, people have been making accusations about fighters apparently being "far too scared" to face Golovkin, but when questioned by the media about a potential GGG-DeGale bout, Gennady's promoter said that the Brit wasn't a big enough name to justify a one-off 168lb fight between the pair.

So for a man that apparently isn't a "big name" fighter, he has no problems at all in attracting "big name" opponents to share the ring with him.

The sad fact remains, is that GGG has never shared the ring with an opponent anywhere near the calibre of George Groves and Andre Dirrell... and Golovkin's next opponent will almost certainly be a relative journeyman in comparison to the type of fighter that James DeGale will face (assuming Froch retires).

Thoughts? Am I being harsh? :??

I think you're being harsh myself.

The fact that Hearn is randomly tossing these names out doesn't mean he's anywhere close to getting a fight actually arranged with any of them to face Degale. As of right now he hasn't attracted a "big-name" opponent, just a case of Fast Eddie trying to hype up a future fight by mentioning some recognised names. Come fight night the opponent will be a relatively unknown although here in the UK they'll still be charging us PPV for it.

I also think you're being very dismissive of what GGG has achieved. Degale's top opponents as you name are Groves & Dirrell. Obviously Dirrell I'll give you but Groves is just a hype job flattered by the first Froch fight (which lets not forget he lost), so what else has Degale done? One win over Dirrell trumps everything GGG has achieved in the ring? Laughable.

GGG is open to going up in weight but only if his opponent is a big enough name & will bring in some big money. Right now a GGG vs. Degale fight would be hyped by the fact that GGG is fighting, certainly nothing Degale brings to the table. Maybe in a year or so if he beats these "big-names" that Hearn is promising & has built his name up.

You are a f4cking liar. You were the one who brought Golovkin's name into this thread, and it was in a negative context right away:

You keep throwing negative remarks about Golovkin saying that you are his fan. You are worse than open haters.

You downplay his achievements/resume. Who else has 20 KO's in a row which includes a few over very decent opponents ?

You are saying that he is being avoided just because of low reward, while in fact almost guaranteed stoppage loss is the main factor which prevents people from facing him.

I will repeat: you are a f4cking liar and hypocrite when you are saying that you are Golovkin's fan.

So if GGG management came out and said we are trying to set a fight up with Martinez you would say he is fighting an over the hill fighter, means nothing but if degale does it he is getting quality names on his resume, your a tool

Kessler is pretty much finished, and Bute seems to never have recovered mentally from the shellacking he took from Froch. I'd say neither of those names would be very impressive, especially Kessler, the guy hasn't fought in donkeys and is plagued by injuries.

I would be amazed if they manage to lure Hopkins over.

K2 Promotions is interested in matching GGG with Cotto, Canelo & Mayweather Jr., who are smaller men that they haven’t even commenced fight negotiations with.

I refuse to applaud someone for expressing an interest without actually following up their intent, because in my mind, actions speak louder than words. Don’t you agree?
You refuse to applaud for not following up with intent yet you have no issue with degale doing exactly that and commend him for trying to get big scalps on his resume , you hypocrite

Bhop seems to be the only one saying the negotiations are advanced, if that were the case I would think that Kessler and bute would not have even been mentioned, personally I'd rather GGG go down in weight than up, clean out Jnr middle, back to middle, then up to super middle
