Is the security figure also low? I don't know how it works with boxing ie do the stewards in the upper tiers (basically ushers to check tickets) count as part of the venue costs? Then the £40k 'only' covers the cost for the ones for the ring walk/around the ring etc?

Also is boxing like football where you have to pay for police 'inside the arena'? I didn't go to this show so don't know if there were coppers in there but there certainly were for the previous o2 show which was much smaller in terms of numbers attending.

I don't think the police are ever in the arena. I think the security is the stewards. Every time i've seen trouble at a fight, the stewards try to steer them towards a fire exit and the coppers are waiting. The only time i've seen them inside was at the Magnificent 7 but the stewards had lost control of that situation. Guess that cost Frank a few quid

Huh? When did BARB release figures for PPV cards? Is this new? I can't see the figures on the site.

When Eddie puts a show on like this, does Eddie also have to cover the expenses for the visiting fighter and his team? For example would Eddie have to cover the cost of the flights, hotel, general commuting, food and training facilities for Linares, Gradovich and Johnson whilst they are here in the UK? Or would these expenses be factored into the general purse for the fighter?

I've always thought they were a separate cost. There have always been stories about how some promoters across the different countries have been more generous with budgets. I think the Klitschko's use it as basically an obedience tactic for their opponents

It's Eddie himself that says it didn't do as many buys as Bellew vs Cleverly 2.

Mitchell v Estrada they were in the arena mate, don't know how many but certainly saw a few around the bars and also poking there heads in the arena itself at certain points. As I say don't know what the situation is for boxing, but at football the idea is normally that stewards are sent in, in the first instance with the old bill as back up.

They don't give individual viewing figures but they give the total viewing for the channel in the week, since there was only one show it gives you the figure.

It's pretty much as good as we are going to get without SKY releasing official numbers.

There has been some really good points raised in this thread in regards to how the PPV revenue breaks down. It'd just like to add a little something to highlight that SKY and Eddie are probably sharing out less money than we think.

Let's just say there was 139,000 PPV buys at £16.95 bringing in a total of £2,356,050. This figure however might not be accurate based on who the viewers TV provider is.

SKY Sports Box Office is available on SKY (10,730,000 TV customers), Virgin Media (3,800,000 TV customers) and Talk Talk (1,400,000 TV customers). That's a total reach of 15,930,000 homes. Virgin Media and Talk Talk make up 33% of the channels total reach. If 33% of the people who ordered the PPV did so via Virgin and Talk Talk, 45,780 based on 139,000 buys, then that's going to cost Eddie and SKY. Both Virgin Media and Talk Talk receive a cut of each PPV sale. I don't know the exact figure but it was suggested to me sometime back by a Virgin Media employee that it's a "few pounds". If it is about £3 per PPV that's £137,340 of the PPV pie bypassing SKY and Eddie. Not massive I know but it's a factor.

The other thing I always find interesting is people who say "PPV's are free money for SKY". There's an assumption that PPV's are pure profit for SKY. It would be good to know exactly how much profit SKY do actually make from a PPV show. There's a lot of outlay for SKY in terms of producing the various build-up shows, usually 1 every night leading up to a PPV, and broadcasting the actual event itself. As we all know SKY tend to hammer us with adverts promoting the PPV in the week leading up to the fight. These adverts run across the 7 SKY Sports channels and often SKY One and SKY News too. When the PPV is getting closer they do tend to pop up in the ad breaks at least once an hour. How much is that costing SKY in lost advertising revenue?

I suppose the point I'm trying to make is there's got to be a tipping point, based on poor sales rumours circulating, where PPV just isn't a viable model for both Eddie and SKY. I know from being part of a SKY focus group they do not like negative backlashes from customers on Social Media. Everytime Eddie announces a PPV event, SKY get caught up in a Social Media sh!t storm. SKY do have their limits, and as they go head to head with BT Sports they will not want to alienate their customers every few months for what appears to be a fairly small profit in the grand scheme of things.

Sorry, I don't buy the accuracy of predicting accurately viewing figures based on 5000 people with a box on their telly. It's ludicrous.

They manage to predict the election results based on asking 1,000 people who they're going to vote for.

They predicted a narrow margin win, we ended up with a Conservative majority win. There's my point.

I agree it seems crazy however BARB have been doing this for over 30 years and are part owned by SKY. TV broadcasters and advertisers have total confidence in their viewing analysis and data. Their findings pretty much drive the whole UK TV industry. With hundreds of millions of pounds being invested in British TV each year you'd have to assume the viewing figures they are able to produce are accurate.
