Please keep boxrec just like it is. It is a spectacular website. I hate it when people change a great idea. Keep it as is.danstott wrote:Hi all
A new version of BoxRec is now available and we'd like you to be the first people to see it.
Please take a look at http://v4.boxrec.com
....and let us know what you think!
Please note that this version doesn't have the editor specific functionality in, so you won't see anything different to what an ordinary user would see.
All comments welcome, thanks

BoxRec v4

Re: BoxRec v4
Just wandered into the new site. First reaction is I hate it. The original had a simple logic to it that this one lacks. If my first experiences trying to locate boxers is any indication, I will only use this site now with diminishing frequency. Apologies to the hard-working persons who designed the new site, but it is ugly.
Re: BoxRec v4
It's vile.
Why did it need to change?
Why did it need to change?
Re: BoxRec v4
I was surprised today with new look of BoxRec. I'm sorry, but where is "watch list"? And, if this is mobile version, maybe i can switch for normal version, because once i saw such function at Sherdog.com?
Re: BoxRec v4
I love the new set up, it's amazing. This is coming form a guy who hates change.
Re: BoxRec v4
Hi folks,
I do not like the new version at all.
What was wrong with the old version anyway.
(much more 'compact')

Re: BoxRec v4
Hi there. I am a long-time user of the reference material but do not post on the forums.
I appreciate the effort put in to changing the site and also appreciate that times must change to fit external circumstances.
That being said, I do not viscerally enjoy the new layout. That's just superficial I know, but it is my opinion.
Technically, I do not like that when looking for results, you must be looking for some "title" to have been at stake to get results. There are cards every day where no titles are at stake on the card.
Also the Schedule is now very non-conducive to being cut-and-pasted, for example into a forum post or live chat. The main site I associate with does (did) this frequently while chatting or in pre-fight forum posts.
Again, thank you for the work you have put in on this change and I appreciate that you have made this forum available for feedback.

Re: BoxRec v4
The old version you could look at a fighter's entire record easily. This version seems cluttered, and you can't quickly scan a boxers record. For someone who visits the site on a daily basis it's not as good as the old version.
What I suggest is offering a LINK at the top of the page for visitors who prefer the old version. This is what a lot of websites do.
Please try.
thanks.

Re: BoxRec v4
Congrats to the change. I must have been a lot of work.
My open opinion and suggestions:
The design looks good and modern, but somehow your eyes hurt after looking at a fighters record.
I think the W-L-D bricks and colors are far too dominant in the fighters records now. Why bricks at all at W-L-D? You almost cannot see the opponents Last 6 (very important for a quick overview) anymore, as well as the actual result of the fight. IMO the opponents name is too small in all the informations and goes under. The W-L-D of the opponent IMO is too far from the boxers name. Grids might be better. The records somehow look jam-packed and its harder now to sort out important from non-important information and to get a quick overview of a fighters career. Your eyes got a lot more to do now and i am not sure if this is only good. Just my opinion.
BTW, why not returning to the yellow/black world title system of the 4 major bodies in the records of the first boxrec system. That reduces a lot of letters in a record.

Re: BoxRec v4
The "tape-function" is cool, but besides that the changes really makes me sad. Usability is close to zero now.
You can't read the records as fast anymore, and it really isn't a record of the fighter anymore. For a fighter with 20 fights it is 20 individual posts, that really aren't connected in a wat so you can get an overview.
I always used the points to get an idea of a fighters development and the strenght of his opponents. Now that is impossible. I have to jump in the text and read under every fight go up and down to remember, what stood under other fights. You might say that the "grid" version could help that, but it doesn't. It is messy and the points are written twice. When you want to compare weights, they are posted so far from each other, that you have to move your eyes.
A sad day for boxing fans, as there is no alternative

Re: BoxRec v4
Love the new updated site, but does anyone know how I can find the "watch" list of the boxers I've been following? Thanks a lot

Terrible new version, the original far, far better

Re: BoxRec v4
Okay, so at first I hated the new site, but after looking around a bit (very briefly admittedly) it isn't too bad I suppose.
However, a big part of my initial hatred was a result of being peeved at the fact that the "watch list" function has been totally removed. For what reason was this dropped? Did not enough people use it or what? It was a great way to keep track of lesser known or up-and-coming boxers who don't happen to get a lot of attention. As far as I'm aware, it was also a feature that was unique to this site. It was hands down the number one reason I visited this site: the other features being the extensive, worldwide scheduling database, and the handy career database for the fighters. These latter two features are accessed only to satisfy the occasional curiosity, though.
And that's pretty much all the use I can see getting out of the site now; to satisfy an occasional curiosity. Maybe the extent of my dependence on this feature was unique to just me. Maybe I'm weird. Whatever the case, this site had a permanent open tab in my browser, but without a watch list, it won't anymore. Maybe that means something to someone, maybe it doesn't. Either way, that's just my two cents. Thanks for reading.

The missing "Watchlist" seems to be the #1 gripe, and will return. Expect further tweaks and updates of this new V4. Nothing is set in stone. (Were there not similar comments about how the "new look" sucked when BoxRec went from V2 to V3 years ago?)
I think "server load" is part of why we now have V4.
In May 2007, "Master of the Domain" John informed the Editors: "Record visitors in a day was 65,000 for Tyson - Lewis but I feel a new record coming on, yesterday the number of visitors jumped from an average 40,000 to 58,793 (559,994 pages)." Then said soon after: "Yes, the record has gone, Visitors 82,870 - Pages 705,018"
In Sept 2013 he said: "182,340 visitors to the BoxRec site yesterday and on the Forum Most users ever online 6958 up from the previous record Feb 2012 of around 3000. Wow"
In November 2014: "Averages are about 1.2 Million uniques a month and 100,000 per day (the same people come back many times in a month)"
Last month (May 2015): "4,174,934 visitors looked at 23,823,651 pages" with "over 2 million unique visitors for the first time"!

Re: BoxRec v4
I am getting negative feedback from regular users.
"Not user friendly" seems to be popular gripe thus far.

Re: BoxRec v4
I really dislike the new look, the way records are presented and just overall! I haven't done but a little searching, but I can see if it stays the way it looks that I will go from a daily visitor to a random user! I love the database and being one of the first to join I have pretty much always agreed with and liked the new changes, but so far I really do not like this new change!
Re: BoxRec v4
When a fighter is having a fight, you have to click on his opponent to get his weight. not the opponents weight, but the fighters weight. What is the idea behind that? Getting more clicks?
I am so angry, that I better not write more now. This is a disaster.

Re: BoxRec v4
I like that you show fighter photos, but the greatest appeal of BoxRec to me -- the compactness of the data -- is gone. Please don't try to copy Google's hideous Gmail changes... BoxRec was a marvel just the way it was. Please return to the old design and keep the fighter photos, maybe putting them to the right of the top information section.
Re: BoxRec v4
Watch list is the key feature and a main page I go every time I visit the site. Even though I like the new look its not worth sacrificing watch list. When is it coming back?
Re: BoxRec v4
It'll come back, give us a few days, thank you.jopo_p wrote:Where is the watch list!
