MUHAMMAD ALI v ALFREDO EVANGELISTA
there were a few fights late in his career when Ali just held and kept bellowing "I am the greatest" and the opponent was so inept he could do nothing to disprove it. I THINK the Evangelista fitht was one of these. Could be wrong, but if this is the one I am thinking of, I thought at the time that in the days when commissions were strong the referee would have thrown them both out of the ring, declared the fight "No contest" and held up the purses. Maybe just Ali's purse, as Evangelista couldn't help he wasn't a good fighter, and it was Ali himself who made it a farce.

wrong about alfredo. he wasnt ever knocked out until 2 yrs after the ali fight, where holmes iced him in 7 rds.terap wrote: EVANGALISTA WAS knocked out in the FIRST ROUND IN HIS NEXT FIGHT.
Doesn't anybody ever notice that after novice Leon Spinks fought Ali (the greatest of all time?) for 30 rounds in two fights---
that as soon as he fought someone else (Gerrie Coetzee) Spinks couldn't even survive for ONE round.
But nobody ever called Coetzee the greatest of all time.
Puzzles me.
v leon spinks ali was old and washed up and never a big puncher. leon didnt have agreat chin. he was going to run into trouble as soon as he stepped in v any big puncher.
ali not being a big puncher doesnt make him overated or not great.
