Yes, he lost control of his land rover on the motorway, and by sheer bad luck, careered into someone working at the side.

What a horrible thing to happen, some things are inexplicable in their timing.

In hindsight Chris eubank should have tried to finish, because Thompson took the shots better in the brutally hard late exchanges. And took eubank's eye late - which would seal his fate in the rematch.

Similar with Collins, whom The Weird One dropped much more heavily if I recall correctly.

I think Chris Could have stopped both, but he had a strange temperament and may have been thinking about saving energy. Not to mention being worried about what happened in the rematch with Watson.

A while after the Collins fight Eubank caused a huge stink in the press by saying 'I should have killed him' when asked if he'd let Collins off the hook after the knockdown.

Yes he did, but from memory he wasn't wishing had killed him, but more stating that he should have killed him if he wanted to win...if that makes sense
Another little insight into his Psyche at that point, post Watson he was scared when he hurt someone in the ring. You could see him almost fighting himself mentally, as soon as he had someone hurt.

My overriding memory is the Manchester crowd booing Thompson as he made his way to the ring. It was disgusting.

I think a lot of it was down to stamina issues, rather than the idea that he deliberately stepped off due to the Watson thing. He bounced a few overmatched opponents. If his main concern was fighter safety why didn't he carry them?

Good point, and from memory, he did carry some opponents on occasions. Allowing it to go the distance when he could have just put his foot on the gas.
I think with Collins in particular, it meant going for broke and throwing the kitchen sink.. and he was fearful of the consequences. This clearly isn't to say the he would have KO'd him if he had thrown the kitchen sink..but thats the message i always took when Eubank spoke of the fights.

I have no real view or care as to what might have been if the Watson injuries hadn't occurred. Nonetheless i don't think Eubank was the same fighter post Watson.
