How do we rate Anthony Crollas chances next month in his challenge for WBA lightweight title?

I've never fancied Anthony as being world class and know very little about his opponent Darleys Perez.

But with Derry Matthews winning the interim version of the WBA last month, a Crolla win would set up an intriguing domestic clash with plenty of history.

I knew nothing about this Perez fella and after thinking Haskins had no chance at world level I was reluctant to write Anthony off too quickly.

I was kind of torn between the Brittish fight fan that wanted to see the Crolla vs Derry world title fight and the true boxing fan that shouldn't want to see two guys at that level anywhere near world title fights.

haha, Dont rate Crolla tbh, would be a great a story considering his career has been up and down at british level and then the terrible incident that happened, but he aint beating perez, surprised the bookies dont have it priced wider.

I rate Crolla's chances 50/50,its hard to gauge how Anthony will be after the burglery incident, especially when Perez starts landing heavy shots on his skull,Darleys is a tough fighter but I think the Crolla is probably the better technician, Perez gave a good account of himself against Gamboa a few years ago so there's no doubt Crolla's in for a long night but if he hasn't lost too much physically and mentally then I think the crowd can see him through for a memorable win

If Mitchell had beaten Linares they might have gone for the unification to put that fight off, but now they won't really have any other choice.

Fairplay to Crolla for taking this fight , I would of thought after his injury / recovery / time out some sort of 6 rounder similar to his last couple of fights would of suited him , but I know cant turn down a chance to fight for a world title .

I dont know alot abour Perez either TBH would like Crolla to win tho and set up the 3rd fight with Derry

i would have liked to have seen Crolla in a warm up fight, even if it was just an 8 rounder against a bit of a European gatekeeper/ journeyman just to get him after the attack

This really. Crolla had momentum and confidence before the attack, of course boxing can also be about taking opportunities when they arise, but I am surprised he is straight back in at this level after a serious head injury.

Hope he can do it as always been a good pro and always had potential.

Does the WBA actually enforce these "regular" vs "interim" champ matches? I've heard bits about the winner of this fight having to face Mathews, but nothing similar about Jacobs fighting Eubank Jnr.

Watched a couple of Perez's fights (Gamboa and his last one) and some of the comments on the thread make me wonder whether people have been watching the right fighter.

Very winnable fight for Anthony here and stylistically could be a good technical bout without being a war. Perez is upright and has little upperbody movement, how ever his timing is very good. He doesn't take risks and picks his shots carefully, he just couldn't get any rhytym v Gamboa as he was simply the inferior boxer but it was a dull fight anyway. His last fight was decent though against a very game opponent in both those fights however he shown he can easily go 12 and can improve in the later rounds.

The concern I have is that Anthony won't have had a proper fight since he fought John Murray in April 2014 (15 months ago come fight night) still think he can do the job and I'm going to go Anthony close points win or SD.

Don't really give him much chance, Perez isn't brilliant but Crolla isn't close to being world class, hasn't really been past domestic level yet and there's the obvious questions about inactivity and how he will respond after the injury.

Crolla is a tidy boxer, very sensible and methodical, and though he can be slow moving through the gears, once he's established his body punching he usually builds some solid momentum.

He can do it.
