Kovalev is waaay to clumsy to compete with Ward.
I agree, ward would be too slick for Kovalev I reckon, what an intriguing bout though.

In response to Sr Pipi: Right, you were saying the same crap before the Hopkins fight.

Kovalev or even Beterbiev will kill Ward.

Sheer anti-American bias clouding judgement. If you can't see how immensely skilled Ward is in. EVERY area of the game then you are blind, dumb or both.

Going up 1 division isn't gonna take away his physical athletic and educated skillset and superiority.

His skill will not help him to keep pressure fighters of the same size as he with a huge punch off him for 12 rounds. He doesn't have power, and his chin is on the weak side.

Imagine the one dimensional Ruskies or Brits doing any damage against this guy. He bludgeoned the huge Smith with ease and would have just as easy a time with any other challenger.

And now some of you are talking up DeGale, the same rummy who got a gift against Dirrell. Ward wins 15 out of 12 rounds against this near novice.

Mayweather's still the best until he's toppled, but even a rusty Ward is right behind him.
Uh-oh, here comes Captain America! It's ok, you are allowed to be objective once in a while. You can start by leaving nationality to the side, it kind of makes you sound like you only pick people because they're from the US. Oh wait, you do. Carry on.

DeGale got a gift did he? Funny, because everyone who actually knows about boxing accepted it was pretty close. But Captain America is just filling in the cards at the start. You probably had Dirrell winning after 3

'The Huge Smith' lol. You couldn't make this shit up. One minute he's a 'Euroweenie', then simultaneously tries to talk up a C-level guy as some kind of achievement by pointing to the fact the guy was carrying 5 lbs of water to go with his flab.

People can appreciate his skills, it's just a lot of people can't see how his particular attributes match up well against the specific guys we're discussing.

Yet those specific guys match up well with him? Put down the pipe. None of those guys has seen anything like Ward in the ring. Not even close.

If that's the case then why is it more extreme in one direction than the other? The only advantage those 2 hold over Ward is punching power. But with his athleticism, defense, smarts and ability to tie up in close quarters common sense would suggest he would be able to negate that 1 disadvantage since he would hold an advantage in literally every department. He would have to overcome 1 disadvantage. They would have to overcome about 5.

If it's a Russian fighter, this Ikorey guys thinks they're the greatest thing since the invention of vodka.

In his case, though, i don't think it's anti-American bias. He just goes orgasmic over anything Russian.

If you saw what he did to Smith, Ikorey, after just 1 fight in 3 years, then you know in your heart, what a pounding he'd give to any walk-in Big Red Machine.

But who's smith? What place does he have? Ward'd look great against Joe Shmoe from the block too, but it wouldn't mean anything.

Rafael reporting Smith weighed 185 lbs at the mandatory Saturday morning weight check. Lmao. He weighed at least 190 in the ring. What a loser.

Things Ward does better than Kovalev: he's a bit faster, his defence is better. Athleticism yes, but that won't be counting for anything when Ward is being forced back with heavy punches all night.

The point is, everything Ward does better is inconsequential in a style matchup with Kovalev. Kovalev will be dictating the pace, the distance. He will be forcing Ward to use a lot of physical and mental energy to avoid those damaging shots all night. Ward would have to win the fight entirely off the back foot, because he sure as hell ain't pushing Sergey back. Can he survive 12 rounds of the inevitable hard shots that Kovalev lands against everyone? Well, maybe you think he can. Personally I don't think he has the constitution. He just isn't avoiding those shots all night, period.

A bit faster?!? A BIT?!? I stopped reading there. If you're not going to be subjective there's no point continuing this debate.

I just like fighters who come to fight. If they are Russians, it is an additional plus for me, but I like for example, both Lemieux and N'Dam. I like quite a few of American fighters who like fighting more than hugging, like Bradley, Thurman, Porter.

I actually have a huge respect of Ward's skills and achievements and think that he could do as well without excessive dirty tactics he is using when he feels he could get hurt.

Paul Smith buzzed Ward. Some gets get hit flush and seem totally unfazed. Rios for example. Other guys get hit and really don't like it. Ward is 1 such guy. I think Kov or G pastes Ward.

I'm a white American and can honestly say I shape all my opinions from a gambling perspective. I don't give a rats f*ck what nationality a guy is. Black. White. Russian. Asian. Don't care. At all. My favorite fighters are of all colors and heritage so I don't let that cloud my true thoughts. My words come from who I would back with my cash.

Kovalev. Odds were a joke. Kovalev isn't losing to a guy who doesn't throw punches and just tries to spoil. Joke fight. That spoiling sh*t isn't going to beat a guy like Kovalev. You need to beat him with speed , movement and smarts - get him thinking too much, frustrate him
and hold him in close quarters.

Then why did you pick Hopkins in the prediction contest here?

That's not gambling. In that contest the only way to take move up is to take some chances. It was getting late in the calendar year and you have to throw darts to try to move up. It doesn't matter if you are wrong there. Go back and look at the pre-fight threads if you want to find my true thoughts on that fight.

First of all Ward could never make 160. The rest of what you are saying after that is very sketchy.

Boom goes the dynamite!! Facial! Hey if you pick Ward over all at 175 that is one thing. But to act as if Kovalev or beterbiev would not have any chance to win that is weird. And for you to say Ward would take all out at 175 and anyone who disagrees is a fornicating moron! That is just weird. You are just a throw out poster for me.

Where did I say Kovalev wouldn't have a chance against Ward? I never said that. I don't give a crap about a pick em contest. Anyone who cares about that has issues. Like I said go back to the pre Kova-Hop fight to get my thoughts on Kovalev, Hop and Ward. It's all there.

By the way, Ward gave Smith back the $38,000 he was fined for missing weight. Dude is pure class. Sadly it's why he's not more popular. He's too nice.

And dopes around here still hate on the guy. Bunch of idiots.
