Smith put in a great effort in the first Abraham fight so why in hell did he just stand with his hands in his face in the 2 fights since??

Its almost as if no effort went into beating Ward, either in training or in the fight itself

Maybe he feels he has nothing left, all fighters grow old at some point, and is taking the pay days.

Good example. Moore was handled terribly IMO. He's much better than Smith. Look what he did to Macklin and what Matthew did since.

You Brits turn on fighters really easily, in my view. I don't mean that in an insulting way, it's just something I've noticed over he years.

I mean, after the first AA fight, it's like he was a national hero and should have gotten the decision. Now he's just a loser. I've noticed the same thing with Witter, Haye, and countless others.

It might actually be a compliment, I suppose in a sense. You guys seem to hold your fighters up to a higher standard than the Americans. If a Paul Smith level fighter in the U.S. loses three title fights, ok, he isn't elite, but maybe he can still be in some good lower level fights down the road, it's not that bad* In the U.K., he almost becomes a pariah of sorts.

Smith was getting shit on here before the first Abraham fight, Bobby, it goes back years. People were rightly pointing out it was connections that got him the first Abraham fight, as he was hideously underqualified, & quite a lot of ire was expressed.

Then, Smith parlayed the (misplaced) sympathy that arose out of the UK commentary of the first Abraham fight & the too-wide scoring into two more lucrative fights... Where he did fvck all.

In other words, it's a nice theory, but seems to not fit the facts of the case. Smith has never, ever, been a Haye/Witter like figure, with believers spurred on by his achievements etc etc etc.

My nomination for the first 'SMITH OF THE MONTH' is the eponymous SMITH who was the inspiration for this (soon to be) highly coveted award.

Though I do believe that Adrian Broner is worthy of consideration too.
People dislike Smith that much they are considering overlooking him for the inaugural award made in his own name

That's harsh

He had neither the conditioning or the courage to try to box Ward, I've seen journeymen boxers give far better accounts of themselves against men far more talented, (than themselves, not Ward).

Brits are probably among the most loyal fans when the fighter they are fans of are worthy of such support. No better example than Ricky Hatton. Listen to his crowd even in defeat to Floyd.

Hatton genuinely faught for the pride of his fan base. Tbh i myself was never a Hatton diehard but now he's gone I teally long for a new Hitman Hatton.

Hey, I'm telling you what I notice as an observer. I could be completely wrong of course. A brit might have a better view than me, or maybe my eyes are fresher. Probably a mixture of both, I suppose.
