Callum Smith vs Christopher Rebrasse

Post by handsofstone »

Boxing this friday on sky from liverpool first Friday show they've done in a while, couple of decent fights although nothing spectacular

I think Rebrasse is a decent test for Smith at this stage,I only seen Christopher when he lost his European title to Groves and although he was well beat he didn't fold and has never been KO'd so its a good match up,I imagine Rebrasse is about the same level as Sjekloca who Callum dominated and I fancy it to be a similar fight to that one with Mondo winning wide on points

Rocky Fielding vs Bryan Vera could be a good tear up too, Fielding didn't look good last time out against Fedotovs and Vera was poor against Monroe Jr,I'm expecting Rocky to be too big though and win s decision

Tony Bellew has a new opponent, can't remember his name but he's been the distance with Banks and Pianeta,Martin Murray also having his Matchroom debut

@handsofstone...I'd be surprised if Rebrasse offers much more than stubborness; not least because Groves ripped the proverbial stuffing out of his sofa when they met.

But Fielding, who I don't really 'get' at the moment in terms of what he wants to achieve and where he is really at, might be in for a way more interesting night with BV.

Brian's a thirtysomething, had a hard career and is on a losing run...but he's a tough boy with some talent and plenty of pride, so if he gets any kind of start against Fielding he could prove to be extremely dangerous.

He's been facing class acts for well over five years now and is not going to be in awe of Rocky...so if he gets a foothold in the fight and he has trained well and hard, this will be the night we found out what Rocky is about.

 can see Smith going the distance here hopefully this is the end of him fighting South American blown up welterweight journeyman.

Think Vera could spring a shock if he turns up not just for the pay cheque.

I am looking forward to the show, shame price isn't part of it. I think Callum can stop rebrasse in the middle rounds. Matchroom shows tend to be so one sided I hope Vera springs an upset.

Saw an interview with Vera sounded like he was slurring words to me but then again don't think I know how he usually sounds.

Fielding was terrible last time out and needs to look devastating tomorrow.

Smith fight good for him at this stage be interesting to see how he does still don't know if he has a chin yet,

Shame Price v Teoer isn't in this that would have made it a good card.

Vera was dominated by Monroe Jr but Willie's a slick mover,Vera has moved up against a big SMW,I think Fielding will take the fight to him and Rocky might be catching Bryan at the right time, also depending who the ref is then a stoppage might be a formality

Amazing to think it's almost 7 years since he was last stopped.

I've never been impressed with Fielding his only win which looks decent is against Blackledge hope Vera gives it a good go.

It's a decent enough card. Glad it's on a Friday for a wee change. If Vera turns up then Fielding could be in for a surprise. Think Fielding will wear him down eventually though. I reckon a wide wide decision for Smith. I hope Murray gets a few rounds and a good finish. Bellew makes my teeth itch but I wish him all the best regardless as I'd like to see how he progresses at Cruiser.

I don't think this is a bad card to be fare a steady 6.5/10

Think Smith stops Rebrasse personally, don't know if Rebrasse will be hurt as such but as soon as he starts shipping plenty as I expect he will think the ref will step in (matchroom show / big hitting reputation).

Fielding / Vera could be a lot more competitive if Vera's on his game can see him upsetting the apple cart. More likely Fielding closeish points win.

As the cards a Friday I really would have liked to see a vacant commonwealth title fight with a tough teak Ghanian in the away corner :OhYes:

Gotta love the over-unders in these domestic tilts. Since Groves couldn't stop Rebrasse you would figure Smith wouldn't either yet it's still even money the fight will go over 9.5 rounds. Same with Fielding-Vera. Fielding has no power yet the over-under 9.5 rds is even money as well. Because the books have to compensate for horrid stoppages when outsiders come in against prospects. Sad.

Fielding has zero power. But a stoppage is possible. This is an outsider fighting a prospect in the UK after all. More than likely Fielding has to go the full 10 but the over/under 9.5 being even money is the books accounting for horrid UK stoppage possibility that always exists. Especially when Fielding already has a fight signed with Callum Smith for the fall. They will likely look to stop these fights today early if any possibility whatsoever presents itself.

You really don't like the UK do you?

Plus fielding has OK power, definitely not zero.

Didn't see the fight....how competitive was it? I've seen a few comments on Twitter suggesting that it was a fairly close bout and that the cards were generous to Smith.

I did see Vera-Fielding and I'm not surprised by the outcome. Vera has looked past it for a while and his punch resistance has clearly been waning, as in his previous two fights he was stopped by Gabe Rosado and hurt by featherfisted MW Willie Monroe.

Callum was on top throughout but was tested, backed up and took a few shots. He needed a fight like that was a good watch and probably the best Matchroom fight on normal sky this year.

Rebrasse really earned his money has to be one of the hardest guys about.

Agreed, a very good fight for Callum Smith and a good fight to watch. Smith will have learned a lot from last night.

I would almost say Smith could do with another fight like Rebrasse before going on to fight the likes of Fielding or Groves.

Impressive performances by both Fielding and Smith.

I don't know who claimed the Smith vs Rebrasse fight was close on cards, it wasn't. Rebrasse was what Rebrasse is but Smith was ALWAYS on top and won undoubtedly by a good eight rounds. You could argue Rebrasse winning a couple of rounds but one judge I believe had Smith by shut out and that was by no means ridiculous.

Fielding blasted Vera out of there. Could do no more than that.
