Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
I do agree its been pretty poor since Hearn exclusivity but surely boxing fan subscribers of Sky deserve a weekly show!Boxerbeetle wrote:It's always been a fairly poor show, but since the Matchroom exclusivity deal it's just been an hour-long advertisement for Hearn's stable. I've not watched it for months now & won't miss it at all.
Any decent cards go to pay per view and now they're scrapping the weekly show...........it really isn't worth paying for Sky Sports.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Even the Small Hall rounds ups became Matchroom orientated....ie the promoters that work with Matcvhroom/on fight pass etc.ashedward wrote:After watching them for a while I have always thought they have tried to be fair with news about other promoters shows and always liked the small hall round up but with the Matchroom content and fighters to promote always going to be heavily matchroom orientated but I believe you would here more about an upcoming Wazza show on there then you would a Matchroom show on the Bunce hour.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
I wasn't aware of this and I'm disappointed given I only have sky sports for the boxing. Now most of the fights are PPV it is really disappointing that for boxing fans! Poor from Sky!
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
This is good news for those of us that do not like football as it is a continuation of a forced situation where they need to make large "efficiency" cuts to all non football programming ie slash the budgets for everything not related to football as they need every penny to pay the billions they forked out for the football packages they won in the auction.
Why do I say good news? As it means non football fans have further justification and reasons to cancel subscriptions without then feeling like they are missing out on anything.
Bin Sky Sports, buy an occasional £6.99 NOW TV 24 hour pass for any live cards you really want to watch, which I am sure will not be too many. Massive personal savings to spend somewhere else in your life, like maybe treating the kids or the missus to a weekend away or a few meals out and day trips.

And attending local small hall shows thus putting money back into boxing where its really needed. fornicate Sky and they're football (my team Wolves always lose when we're on Sky anyway!!).tobyh5 wrote:This is good news for those of us that do not like football as it is a continuation of a forced situation where they need to make large "efficiency" cuts to all non football programming ie slash the budgets for everything not related to football as they need every penny to pay the billions they forked out for the football packages they won in the auction.

Cancelling after July 18th show I think
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Joke. Football gets everything and every other sport suffers.
It has gone a bit down hill but still has it's moments and overall I'll miss it.

Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Disapointing that's it's canceled. Boxing fans will miss it. I don't think that cancelling this is good for boxing
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Most people seem so happy its gone...seems weird as there are hardly enough boxing programs on the tele anyway?
at least its a way of catching up, I genuinely don't see why its a good thing its going

Excellent.Terry Dooley wrote:I’m devastated by this news. I heard that they were working on a two-parter called Dizzee Rascal’s History of the Bantamweight Division. Do you think they’ll still televise Abu Hamza’s How To Throw The Perfect Hook tutorial?
It was just something to watch for me. Didn't really learn anything new.
Question is, if they are transferring content online is it just for subscribers or can anyone watch it?
Sure some at sky are gutted its gone but I've long thought the production values and content at sky is so outdated and they don't appear to innovate.
I feel for michelle joy phelps and hope this doesn't effect her role on toe 2 toe! I live for her US round ups.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Load of crap, just hype for Hearn's latest PPVs, I got bored of it pretty quickly and didn't watch it anymore.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Why is he so involved in boxing and at the front and centre of all ppv press confrences? He has fornicate all to do with boxing bet he has never laced up a pair of gloves in his lifeMightyWarrior wrote:Good job, load of crap, next up, fire Adam Smith, the mans a disaster for Brit boxing

Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Johnny Nelson killed it with his inane behaviour week after week for me. Considering the quality of Sky's cricket and football pundits/anchors, I'm surprised they didn't inject more quality into Ringside.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
To be honest, the quality of the show was dictated by the quality of the fights that were soon to be happening.
Everyone tuned in for Froch & Groves on the couch when the rematch was announced, I bet it did bigger numbers than some sky cards.
Without those sort of interesting imminent fights, it becomes a very tedious and difficult show to pull off.
Even when you have a reasonable trade fight, like Crolla vs Murray, it can fail to spark as they sit and pay each other compliments. Then when you have no interesting fights at all, it must be like pulling teeth to fill such a long slot.
I would have preferred if they relaxed it to every fortnight, or have a bumper 90 minutes per month or something.
Perhaps they will reignite it for big occasions and specials, having realised that the weekly show has become real tired, real fast.
Whatever they do next, please for f*cks sake lets not have more dedicated Benn / Eubank shows. I'm sick to death of the pair of them.

Rarely watched it. It was embarrassing.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
I would think it would just be for Sky subscribers mate. Think they just work the Sky Go/On Demand off your account.dbf wrote:Excellent.

Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Regardless of what you think about it, less boxing is now on TV, and that isn't a good thing.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
If the comments on here are anything to go by then it's no wonder it's been cancelled. If most boxing fans don't bother to watch it the audience must be pretty low. Let's hope BT sports pick up the gauntlet.
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
I'd suggest it has nothing to do with ratings and plenty to do with Sky again cutting £ spent on boxing because they've gotta fork out for football. More pay per views, no more ringside!roy wrote:If the comments on here are anything to go by then it's no wonder it's been cancelled. fornicate Sky
Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Perhaps they should create a boxing Hall of Shame and make Adam Smith the first entrant.
He has been an absolute disgrace to British boxing, doing nothing good for it while he has been head of Sky. He is as short termist as those who pay him. Hypes everything with repetitive cliche whilst behaving like a desperate autograph hunter.
Smith had the opportunity to push changes at Sky and in British boxing for the better and he has ruined it. He has had a very important role in British boxing and has failed miserably throughout.

How the hell are they going to fill six channels with non-live programming?JimJim2009 wrote:Just read sky are pulling the plug on it from this month, which would be in line with the fairly recent announcement by Sky to cut back on non-live coverage programming across all sports.
They might as well shut down the Formula One channel completely.

Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
Ringside hasn't been aimed at hardcore boxing fans for years though - its primary function is to promote Matchroom cards to casual fans. And with any decent card now being put on PPV, there's no need to have a weekly promotional show. Instead, be prepared for a fabulous 'Ringside Special' every time Sky needs to sell a PPV to the casuals.roy wrote:If the comments on here are anything to go by then it's no wonder it's been cancelled. Re: Ringside cancelled from this month
I'm not a diehard Ringside viewer but I did quite enjoy it when it was on although, looking at previous comments, it seems I'm in the minority.
What worries me is that clearly Sky have put all their eggs in the football basket and sod all the other sports. I'm not a massive football fan, I support Scunthorpe United, and have little to no interest in the Premier League. So I'm not happy that my subscription is likely to keep going up to support this ridiculous amount they have paid for football.
I'm not thinking of cancelling my Sky Sports subscription as I watch rugby league, speedway and wrestling as well as boxing. But I am slightly annoyed that other sports are taking a hit due to the football coverage.
Now I know that football is the most popular sport and that Sky will get more viewers for football than all others combined but for those of us that don't care for the overpaid primadonnas that ponce around in the Premier League, it is slightly irritating.
