Brook v Rios

Post by Happy Slapper »

Okay well it looks like this is close to getting made.

What is the general consensus? I personally think it is an awful match up and will not be splashing any PPV cash on this one either.

No way is this fight worthy of pay per view (but we all know it will be made pay per view). The only saving grace for for Sky is if it has a good undercard Brook/Gavin standards + its the same night as Mayweather is the Mayweather fight is included in the pay per view price.

wont tell us anything

he needs to fight ANOTHER genuine World Class Welter

fighting only 1 aint good enough

its beginning to annoy me again like it did prior to Porter... it annoys me cause he is good enough to fight the best

Exactly right. Frustrating because we want to see Brook prove himself against the top as we believe he can.

Many think this is a 70/30 type contest. Fans obviously want to see closer battles like Brook V Bradley / Khan / Thurman / Manny / Marquez.

He's top 10 at a push!!!

Theres nothing majorly wrong with the fight (although after a run of Dan and Gavin since winning the belt you would have liked to see a genuine world class fighter not fringe, in the opposite corner) but its not pay per view worthy.

This is one of the names khan mentions that kell should beat before he will think about a fight.

So let brook beat him, then offer khan the fight, when he bottles it, I'd then go after Garcia and beat him and basically force khan to fight whilst he is praying for floyd to set him up.

He beat a spent JWW campaigner he had already stopped at 140 and a decent but unspectacular WW who was ahead prior to a questionable DQ. I think it's an okay fight and it should help build KB's name in the US, but I don't see Rios as world class at the weight.

I think it's a decent match up tbh. Rios will come to fight and the build up should be fun. Problem is that Brook isn't a PPV fighter yet and the likes of Rios doesn't constitute a PPV billing. In saying that if the card were of similar quality to the last PPV I would have no problems shelling out. I won't hold my breath though.

Yeah haha! All he sees are pound signs! I really enjoyed the last card but we've not had a decent Brit card on Sky since I don't think. That show could easily have been split into two or three good shows but hey ho. I think Brook is gonna be PPV all the time from now on by the looks of it. He's one of my favourite fighters but no way should he be PPV just yet unless it's a PPV worthy fight.

Rios is not a top 10 welterweight.

Rios is an okay opponent, but Brook should fight someone better later in the year.

Rios is as tough and game as they come but I'd fancy Brook to do a number on him. He's far too easy to hit. Brook by late stoppage I reckon.

Not a bad fight but can only see a comfortable points win for Brook. Wont be buying if its PPV unless the undercard is stacked with good fights. I dont think fights like this should be made PPV, the vast majority of people think brook takes this which leaves a sour taste in my mouth when 70/30 bouts end up being PPV they should be 50/50 or 60/40 at the very least in my opinion. Or the stars of boxing like Mayweather and Pacquiao obvioudsly

Rios isn't top 10

All the guys above him on the site beat him easily ( 8 fighters) Diego Chaves at 10 could have with the right tactics when they fought. Devon Alexander below him wins easily and Chris Algieri beats him too IMO.

He's a career lightweight who doesn't look to have much pop at 147. Pacquaio's comeback fight after getting KO'd. I just think that Brook is a really good fighter but it's difficult to believe that when he's not fighting the top guys. It's like when he had 13 final eliminators. It's just so disappointing. Imagine if they were about to announce Mayweather, Khan, Thurman or Maidana or someone of that quality. I'd be like a kid at Christmas waiting for any of those fights and happily lap up the PPV. This one just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me anti-Brook which I don't want to be, coz it's great having a British World champ in boxing' best division. Or it should be great.

Apparently Top Rank is still considering making Rios-Provo instead, a fight which I prefer to Rios-Brook.
