poor Gennady, his boxing situation is pretty messed up

Post by apollo creed »

I can't believe that nobody notable don't want to fight him, except midget Bradley and runner Lara, who blatantly knows that his master won't ever allow him to fight GGG on HBO.
Everybody waits to see GGG getting old overnight to fight him.

Maybe Heiland or Eubank Jr could be decent opponents for a stay busy fight.

what do you think ?

I am wondering if Bernard is still up to fighting an opponent like GGG at 168-170.

Fighting a 50 y/o man no matter how good you look is a lose situation. It won't do nothing for you.

It's sad what happens @ 160. I can see the same situation going on in 2016.

Until his promoter K2 decides to pay his opponents a decent purse.GGG will continue to fight bums.
Not GGG's fault. It is his promoers

I think it is the other way around. HBO won't let any of haymons guys on. I would imaginge haymon would let lara fight GGG. Its not like lara has a record or any draw power that needs to be protected.

HBO would allow Quillin or Jackobs as GGG opponents. Lara is a different story due to his unappealing style.

Not Bradley. Beating a welterweight almost killed by Provodnikov will not add anything to Gennady's resume even if it happens at 154. Actually, Gennady could hurt Bradley so bad causing some permanent damage that he would be condemned for taking that fight.

put it this way. a boxer gets boost when he fights somebody with a "name", regardless of weight. look at hopkins vs de la hoya. hoya looked small and shubby and totaly out of place against sturm at middleweight and he looked totaly out of place against hopkins and look what big boost if gave hopkins when winning against the much smaller oscar.

i mean, i dont wanna compare oscar with bradley, all i wanna say is that timmy is a "name" and when you got a win by ko against a "name" opponent than it simply looks good in your record.

i still hope that the top midds get their sh§$t together and face ggg

I think they are all waiting for him to get old or move to another weight. In order to get KO'ed by GGG, they will want huge money, and HBO with K2 don't seem to want to invest enough money into the 33-year old Golovkin.

HBO has a limited budget. I can't think of one fight recently that they bankrolled for more than 3m in combined purse. That's not enough to pay a high profile opponent purse, much less both guys. If he wants a name opponent, its gotta be ppv, even UK only ppv in Frochs case.

K2 bid 7m for stadium selling euro superstar Wlad vs #1 contender, undefeated Povetkin. Wlad had to go to Russia, which is at war with Wlads homeland. 7m is not enough to cover a Canelo, Cotto, Froch, even Ward fight.

Agreed, except when Klitchko fought Povetkin, Russia and Ukraine were still friends.

P.S. Ukraine has a civil war between Western Ukranians who deposed an elected president supported by Eastern Ukranians. Russia supports the Eastern rebels, but if Russia was really at war with Ukraine, it would have ended in couple days.

I'm gonna defer to you on that, and true they weren't at war quite yet, but AFAIK the tensions have been running high way before this fight (including the poisoning of Ukr prime minister), and in fact Vitali campaigned for the anti Russian faction way before.

How much have they been offering? How far is the amount falling short of expectations? Got any numbers or are you guessing?

Chris Eubank Jr or David Lemieux would make for an interesting matchup.

Beating a shopworn junior welter and a junior middleweight 'runner' will give Golovkin fame? On what planet?

I wish you were trolling, but you are being serious, which is completely sad.
Bradley: Shopworn junior welterweight
Lara: junior middleweight runner
Muhammad Ali: light heavyweight
Mayweather: Super Featherweight coward
Pacquiao: One-handed light flyweight
De La Hoya: Spoiled transexual
George Foreman: Limited slugger
Mike Tyson: Midget who melts down if you stand up to him.

In other words, you're being an idiot, and your attempt at the excuse game is invalid.

Lara maybe, he has a good resume and he's close to GGG's weight but even if GGG would KTFO Lara @ 160, it won't add nothing to his popularity/marketability. People would say that he beat a bloated up jr MW. Maybe if GGG would fight Lara @ c/w and beat him then his win would be considered a legit one.

Decent purse?! . I reckon that Cotto, Canelo, Quillin, Lee and Lemieux would want to get the same amount of money to fight GGG as they would get to fight Floyd or something like that. Probably they have right but that leave us, the boxing fans with some big question marks about these fighters. :(
