How many shows do you attend?

Post by WelshJack »

Do you only go locally?
Go to see a certain fighter?
Go if there is a big enough fight?

I support all local fighters when I can financially afford it. Go to local pro shows, local amateur and unlicensed. I'll also do Manchester big ones due to having free accommodation there.

Unless it's the York Hall I won't go to any shows these days unless it's to a ringside seat. There's nothing I hate more than a clueless drunken yob singing football songs into my ear.

None since I moved to the Isle of Man 3 years ago(they aren't into boxing here), prior to that I tried to attend a few shows a year, just local stuff though, last big one I went to was Hatton vs Maussa.

Never been to a pro show in my life. Not saying i wouldn't enjoy it, just think i'd always prefer taking in it at home. Comfortable, better view, cheaper beer

Went to five of the WSB events at York Hall/Copper Box this year but nothing since Feb 2015 at Copper Box (Fury and Chisora bouts.) Working weekends gets in the way. It's normally a quality card that makes me want to go to a fight rather than just a big main event. I used to go to almost all of Tyson Fury's early fights and would make a trip of it and see a bit of the country in the process.

My record for a single year was 35 pro shows in 2011, but these days I got to maybe 15 pro and around six amateur.

I used to go to as many as my wages would allow but have kids now so I I have to be pretty selective unfortunately. My mates are mostly football fans but are fair weather boxing fans so I can sometimes convince them to get a wee weekend away here and there. I always try and make the Frampton fights though as he's my favourite fighter. It guts me to miss out watching him.

Been to 83 (I think), with my first one being Henry Wharton at Dewsbury in 1990.

At one time I would go to any show mainly in Manchester as Leeds was very quiet at the time but now I am more selective. I have been to shows where every fight is 60-54 & 40-36 so will try avoid if it looks the case.

Around 5 or 6 a year for me

Do like to mix it up 1 or 2 big shows (such as Froch Groves 2, Bellew v Cleverly 2 lately) plus local (Black Country + Birmingham) small hall shows I've been lucky though in that Warren has used my local venue (Wolverhampton Civic Hall...the York Hall of the Midlands) a fair bit too for fights that really deserved somewhere bigger (Gavin v Bundu & Flannagan v Ormond)

As far as local shows go I like to support most the local lads but have a simple rule: as long as there's at least 1 what I would call competitive 10 (8 at a push) rounder on the top of the bill (usually a Midlands area title fight) I'll go. I think I pick pretty well as have seen some cracking fights in recent years such as: Aston v Welborn and Holt v Jenkinson just the other week, Carruthers v Spence, Welborn v Carruthers, Callum Cooper v Marcus Ffrench, Steven Pearce v Amir Unsworth. Most of which were or likely will be in the nominations for Midlands fight of the year.

started at steve wood show in manchester watched weigh in first few fights then jumped on m6 to stoke where a lad i work was fighting just about watched that fight and then watched a terrible decison against matt seawright before heading to coventry to a less allen show to see how a lad from yorkshire i know was getting on busy night lol.

Our last but one home show in bham i did the first two corners before driving to coventry to get there just in time to do sullivan masons corner in a eight rounder. Then managed to get back just as the main event was starting bham and got a seat to sit down and watch it (our guy lost in a barnstormer)

I've seen 1 or 2 in my time and ffrench vs cooper is still in my top 5 of all time. Incredible fight.

Neer been and have no desire to go.

Football/chav mentality isnt my idea of "atmosphere". Id go if I had ringside seats, but otherwise the view looks shit anyway.

TV for me.... :)

You should try small hall shows though non of the negative things you mention above.

That the 2nd time they fought? I saw them fight first time (was over 4) and was a decent scrap but I reckon your talking about the 2nd one (Midlands area title fight) was on one of those Sunday afternoon shows at the Civic. I missed it but my brother went said it was a great fight.

You going Walsall Saturday mate? I'm busy in the day and doubt I'd make it back on time but can't say I'd go anyway all 4 rounders nothing special is it.
