Swift VS Paulie

Post by diddy »

Garcia is only a -550 fave vs Malignaggi? I am shocked by this news. That's it?! Paulie is done. And even if he isn't there's no way in hell the judges are taking Danny's "0" from him against a guy with 1.5 feet in the broadcast booth.

I thought the odds here would be closer to -1500.

Call me crazy but I think that Paulie has a style that will give Danny Garcia trouble. His style is similar to Herrera's and we all know how much trouble DSG had with him. Paulie's goal is to win rounds with the jab and if DSG doesn't land that left hook at some point in the fight, he struggles.

I would not be surprised to see a very tight decision in this one. Not surprised one bit. I had Garcia losing to both Herrera and Peterson so he's pretty lucky to call himself undefeated. He really should be embarrassed for even considering this fight.

I sort of agree, although it all depends how shot paulie is. I think a "prime" (lol) paulie would give garcia all sorts of problems and could probably outwork hit for a decision. At one point paulie had a pretty good chin (remember the beating he took from cotto). I also think lamont peterson laid a pretty good blueprint as to how to beat garcia. A blueprint I think a non-shot paulie could have implemented pretty well.

I was also hoping the odds would be wider as I would have put a few bucks on paulie if it was like +1000.

Regardless, my prediction is garcia by KO.

I agree. This fight is interesting to me which seems pretty ridiculous to type. Paulie had a lot of issues with his hands late in his career and i think that the time off that he took could make him stronger in there. What do I know though? He probably gets knocked out cold in the first. I just don't know why DSG keeps putting himself in these no win situation fights. There's nothing he can do in this fight that will make people jump back on his wagon. If he knocks Paulie out in seconds, he will be shelled with criticism. If he struggles then the critics will continue to say he's shot. Not the fight he needed to take at this point in his career when the sharks are swarming.

Not a great match but not horrible either if you want to test the waters at 147. Pac and Khan fought 140lber Algieri, who is far less accomplished than Paulie, and has 22 fights with no amateur experience.

I would have preferred a Matthysse rematch, but Garcia has a pretty impressive resume. Paulie may give him a run, who knows.

Berto would have been the perfect fight for DSG to test the waters at 147 IMO

You know Berto has had his ups and downs, but think he is still a good solid welterweight. I would bet on him vs Khan for example.

2 or 3 or 4 years ago people were talking about Floyd ducking him, when Berto was unbeaten and welter champ for 2 yrs.

Swift vs. Pillow Fisted Paulie. Yeah like Paulie really has a chance. I guess at best Swift is testing the waters at 147 with Paulie being led to the slaughter. Geez I wonder whose gonna win.

I kind of thought that when Danny fought a couple of other guys too, like Herrera. Sometimes boxers don't put on their best performance when the opponent isn't a big threat. That being said, Paulie stands about as good of a chance as a snowball in hell, but does have a chance.....slim and none, and slim hasn't left town just yet.

This is one of those fights that could be more competitive than expected but regardless of what happens Garcia will get the nod on the cards. The three things of interest about it are to see if Garcia can actually cut the ring down against a boxer for once, what version of Paulie shows, and the prospect of Paulie vs Angel Garcia in a trash-talking duel leading up to the fight.

Algieri beats Paulie everyday of the week and twice on a Sunday, Paulie has nothing left.

Garcia has already fought twice at a catch weight in WW and as THE 140 champion he should be fighting better competition.

I thought that too why is Garcia even fighting Paulie. At least some of the downside opponents Garcia had since the Khan fight had a little bit of a punch left.Morales, Judah. Paulie is on the downside and never really had the punch to begin with.

Malignaggi has a chance. He's only fighting Garcia and Garcia really isn't anything special.

Im amazed any of you think Paulie has anything left. The guy probably lost to Pablo Cano for Christ sake. And that was years ago. He then got run over by Porter. Garcia isn't great but he's much better than Paulie at this stage of his career. Easy fight for Garcia. He will land all the meaningful punches.
