I doubt even Joshua would be able to get away with that.dookus wrote:Paging Horse to this thread!Datsue wrote:But mate, Arreola already did a better job than Wilder. One round. Difficult to improve on that, unless Joshua knocks him sparko before they actually ring the first bell.

If true then I genuinely can't wait for this one

Is it for the British title?JimJim2009 wrote:the leading article on the daily mail's boxing pages says its looking like joshua will face gary cornish in september. that is a one round fight if ever there was one
If it isn't then what on Earth is the point of it?
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
So whats wrong with this Gary Cornish then. Looks like a decent prospect. Big, tall, in shape, undefeated. Looking at his record it is better then Dillian Whyte who many here convinced themselves will beat Joshua. I still have to check his tapes but so far I like what I see. Certainly better then fat Mexican journeyman.

Tall, fit, nowhere near as strong as a 6'7" behemoth should be, seemingly no aptitude for punching whatsoever, I think he took up boxing at about 24.Tarkus wrote:So whats wrong with this Gary Cornish then. Also, about as much punch resistance as Senor Molina.

Gary f.u.c.k.i.n.g Cornish ?
They mention all the big names for Sep, tell everyone to brace themselves for a "big announcement" ...then serve up a Cornish pasty. Surely PPV on the comedy channel ?

You should check out the tapes of him fighting, because whatever his appearance in pictures or his win-loss ratio on paper he's looked mediocre against very limited opposition, and I think Joshua would have a great chance of stopping him in the first. I also suspect that Whyte would beat him fairly easily and I'd favor someone like Ian Lewison over him too, not to mention previous AJ opponents Kevin Johnson and Denis Bakhtov. If John McD took the fight seriously I think he'd have a great chance of beating Cornish as well.Tarkus wrote:So whats wrong with this Gary Cornish then. Looks like a decent prospect. If this were a case of Joshua staying extremely busy prior to a step-up fight, as was the case with him fighting people like Gavern prior to Johnson, that would be different, but Cornish would be very underwhelming as the actual 'big announcement' opponent.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
I cant find any videos of Gary Cornish. In the one posted above he doesn't look great. I think only thing going for him there is his awkward, spoiler style, all the holding and turning his back, etc. That was though while ago and I wonder if he improved on it.

Cornish reminds me of Sick Boy from train spotting. Joshua Ko first decent punch he throwsDatsue wrote:Tall, fit, nowhere near as strong as a 6'7" behemoth should be, seemingly no aptitude for punching whatsoever, I think he took up boxing at about 24.Tarkus wrote:So whats wrong with this Gary Cornish then. Can we please give aj a test. Lucas Browne or dillan whyte . aj s already. At European champ level tbh.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
Cornish reminds me of that 6'7 British fighter Maloney managed that Tyson Fury KOd in 2 when he was 20.
It's that kind of level of fight IMO.

What's Whyte done to suggest that he's a test?mikiesb wrote:Can we please give aj a test. Lucas Browne or dillan whyte . aj s already. At European champ level tbh.
It's ridiculous that he's been made the British mandatory based on his awful record.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
Aj and DW both unbeaten in pros. Aj wants to avenge am loss to DW. DW will come to fight and isn t going to freeze on the big stage so there s a genuine fight there no one just turning up.for a payday both a lot to lose
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
Being unbeaten isn't good enough when he hasn't even beaten anyone as good as Matt Skelton yet.mikiesb wrote:Aj and DW both unbeaten in pros. Aj wants to avenge am loss to DW. He might be a talented pro, but he's done little to prove it so far.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
DW a side . Lucas Browne - thoughts ?

Whyte, like Joshua is a fellow prospect. He's beaten him in the amateurs and he's been pretty vocal in trying to get the fight on. Apart from that he is a talented guy who's undefeated, hungry and has something to prove. I think Whyte would be a very good test for Joshua. Makes sense. I still think AJ would do him but there's only one way to find out. Gary Cornish just looks awful. Granted I haven't seen his last few fights but the fights I have seen were awful to watch so unless he's one of the most improved fighters in boxing then that contest is a foregone conclusion.Horse wrote:Being unbeaten isn't good enough when he hasn't even beaten anyone as good as Matt Skelton yet.mikiesb wrote:Aj and DW both unbeaten in pros. Ps I know Cornish didn't take up boxing til late and never had much of an amateur career and is learning on the job before anyone says. I've nothing against the guy. His handler Gilmour is a bit of a self important twat though.

Commonwealth champion, beaten some half decent fighters, big punch etc.mikiesb wrote:DW a side . Lucas Browne - thoughts ?
He would be a good opponent.

If Joshua plans on winning the Lonsdale belt outright then Whyte is fine as one of the opponents he needs to fight to do that.
Beating him doesn't really prove anything though, as he's not shown that he's even a top 50 level heavyweight yet. There's a good chance that Johnson, Bakhtov or Sprott could beat him.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
He would be AJ's highest ranked opponent and by far his most dangerous offensively, so I'd approve. While Browne is limited and probably less likely to give AJ rounds than someone like Wach, I think he at least has the power to ask some questions of Joshua's chin should he land, and I don't think Joshua has shown that it's a foregone conclusion that people like Browne won't clock him.mikiesb wrote:DW a side . Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
Johnson, Bakhtov and Sprott are respectable names to have on your record as an up and coming fighter but Joshua has been getting looked after better than Whyte and has a lot of influence and money behind him. I'm sure if Whyte had the same attention he would be despatching of these type of guys too. As I said, I think AJ beats Whyte but that's just my opinion and it's a fight I definitely want to see. I'd rather see him in with Whyte than Cornish. Wach would be better than the two of them at the moment but it's all went quiet on that front.Horse wrote:Joshua has beaten some decent fighters, Whyte hasn't.Stuarty30 wrote:Whyte, like Joshua is a fellow prospect. Chisora! Really?johnswan1 wrote:I don't think Joshua should be in with anybody who has a first round KO defeat on their record.
Tony Thompson is the pick for me, even though you'd have to expect a far worse version now than the version Price faced. I'd also happily take Chisora, Whyte or Price.
Chisora has no motivation any more, he's just a big plodding punchbag - that's a ridiculous suggestion.
Re: Joshua v Molina could happen
If it is against Molina, then it won't be for any sort of significant title, despite what Hearns promised us...
